What is GT?
GT stands for General Training, a module of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). It is designed to assess the English language proficiency of individuals who wish to migrate to an English-speaking country, work or study in an English-speaking Environment, or undertake training programs.

GT IELTS test Structure
The GT IELTS test consists of four modules:
- Listening: 40 minutes, 40 questions
- Reading: 60 minutes, 40 questions
- Writing: 60 minutes, 2 tasks
- Speaking: 11-14 minutes, 3 parts
Listening
The Listening module assesses your ability to understand spoken English in a variety of contexts. You will hear recordings of conversations, lectures, and announcements, and answer questions based on what you hear.
Reading
The Reading module assesses your ability to understand written English in a variety of contexts. You will read passages from newspapers, magazines, and other sources, and answer questions based on what you read.
Writing
The Writing module assesses your ability to write in English for different purposes. You will be asked to complete two writing tasks:
- Task 1: Describe a visual information (e.g., a chart, graph, or diagram).
- Task 2: Write an essay on a given topic.
Speaking
The Speaking module assesses your ability to communicate orally in English. You will have a conversation with a trained examiner, who will ask you questions about your personal experiences, interests, and opinions.
Scoring
Each module is scored out of 9, with a total score of 1-9. The overall band score is calculated as the Average of the four module scores.
