The National Eligibility test for School Teachers (NET) is a national-level examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for determining the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges. The NET is also a qualifying examination for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) by the (UGC).
The NET is conducted twice a year, in June and December. The application process for the NET 2024 will begin in January 2024. The last date to apply for the NET 2024 is February 2024.
The NET is a two-tier examination. The first tier is the Paper-I examination, which is a qualifying examination. The second tier is the Paper-II examination, which is an optional examination.
The Paper-I examination is of 150 marks and is conducted for a duration of 3 hours. The Paper-II examination is of 300 marks and is conducted for a duration of 3 hours 30 minutes.

The NET is a computer-based examination. The examination is conducted at various centres across the country.
The results of the NET are declared in the month of May. The provisional answer keys are released in the month of April. The candidates can raise objections against the provisional answer keys in the month of April. The final answer keys are released in the month of May.
The marks obtained in the NET are valid for a period of three years.
The eligibility criteria for the NET are as follows:
- The candidate must have a Master’s degree in any subject from a recognized university.
- The candidate must have secured at least 55% marks in the Master’s degree examination.
- The candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET) or the State Eligibility Test (SET) conducted by the UGC or any other statutory body recognized by the UGC.

The application form for the NET can be downloaded from the NTA website. The application form can be filled online or offline. The application fee for the NET is Rs. 1000 for General/OBC candidates and Rs. 500 for SC/ST candidates.
The admit card for the NET will be issued online. The admit card will be available for download from the NTA website. The admit card must be carried to the examination centre on the day of the examination.
