MoHUA Approval to A.P under Garbage Free Cities

Under the Garbage Free Cities vision, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved Rs 235 crore to Andhra Pradesh, the largest one-time approval of for legacy dumpsite restoration.

The Centre will contribute Rs 77.66 crore towards this initiative, with the state covering the remainder.

Cleaning these dumpsites is essential not only for changing the countrys landscape but also for addressing public Health and environmental problems.

About the mission

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 on October 1, 2021, with the goal of achieving Garbage Free Cities by the year 2026.

One of the primary aims of the Mission is to clean 16 crore metric tonnes of legacy garbage dumpsites which are occupying almost 15,000 acres of municipal land.

At present 118 metric tonnes of uncleaned legacy wastes is present across the state occupying over 463 acres of land.

Conclusion

At present, dumpsite clearance is a priority with more than 260 cities from five different states and Union Territories have submitted their legacy waste clean-up action plans to the government, showing their dedication towards the vision of garbage-free cities.

Andhra Pradesh’s revenues report highest gain in 5 years

This is considered to be the highest gain in the last five years. In fact, AP fetched more revenues than neighbouring during the corresponding period.

According to the latest report released by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), AP fetched Rs 88,618 crore in the first seven months of the current fiscal.

This is almost 22000 crore more than the revenues fetched during same period in 2020. The state’s revenues were badly hit due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020.

over 35 per cent growth rate in one fiscal. In fact, Covid-19 second wave crippled the state between April and June in 2021.

The tax revenues proved that state achieved better growth rate despite struggling with the second wave of Covid-19 for the entire first quarter of the current fiscal.

Govt extends dengue testing facility to 54 hospitals in Andhra Pradesh

In an effort to further its seasonal disease surveillance system, theAndhra PradeshHealth department has extended the dengue MAC-ELISA testing facility to 54 sentinel surveillance hospitals (SSHs), including all government general hospitals/medical colleges, district hospitals, and area hospitals. The diagnostic testing was available at only 19 SSHs in AP back in 2015.

(MAC-ELISA) is conducted for confirmation of dengue infection due to its high sensitivity. However, as these SSHs doubled up as Covid-19 treatment facilities both in 2020 and 2021, including some as state-level Covid-19 hospitals to treat only emergency cases, the state recorded only 964 dengue infections in 2020 and 4,767 cases in 2021.

Student enrollment in Andhra Pradesh govt schools jumps

Andhra Pradeshis one of the few states that have witnessed an increase in the student enrollment in government schools over the years as per the sixteenth ‘Annual Status of Education Report(Rural) 2021′ released on Wednesday. For children in the age group of 6-14, enrollment in the government schools has increased to 71% in 2021 from 62% in 2018 in AP. This shift is seen in all grades and among both boys and girls.

The maximum increase in governmentschoolenrollment is seen in Uttar Pradesh and Kerala. Other than , all southern states have witnessed an 8% increase in student enrollment in government schools between 2018 and 2021. If parental education is taken as a factor, only 56% of the highly educated parents are sending their wards to government schools in Andhra Pradesh. This is almost 91% for the parents in the ‘low’ education category.

As per the ASER, the school education report facilitated by non-profit Pratham, the availability of smartphones in households has almost doubled since 2018. About 72% of the total pupils in Andhra Pradesh currently have smartphones available at homes compared to a mere 42% in 2018. However, 18% of them do not have access to these smartphones

In 2020, about 4% children had taken private tuition classes in Andhra Pradesh. This proportion jumped to almost 23% in 2021. About 96% of the enrolled children have textbooks of their current grade. ASER 2021 was conducted in 25 states and 3 Union Territories during September and October, 2021.

Over 80% of cattle in Andhra Pradesh vaccinated

Andhra Pradeshhas so far vaccinated about 38 lakh cattle out of the total 46 lakh animals in the state against the lumpy skin disease (LSD). The state, which recorded only two cases by the end of August, has detected nearly 10,000LSDcases in the last 45 days, including a death.

Despite restriction orders on transportation of cattle and fairs due to the LSD, the unauthorised shandies in remote rural areas have become a challenge for the officials in the containment of the disease.

The Union Government, in an advisory, asked the states to enforce requisite biosecurity measures in letter and spirit to control the spread of the disease. One of the critical measures suggested in the advisory is to identify the infected villages to carry out precautionary plans in the specific area and ringvaccinationin a five-kilometre radius around the affected villages.
