PM inaugurates first greenfield airport Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar and dedicated 600 MW Kameng Station to the nation today. The foundation stone for this airport was laid by the Prime Minister himself in February 2019. Work on the airport has been completed within a short span of time, despite the challenges due to the pandemic in between.

The Prime Minister said that Donyi Polo Airport will be the fourth operational airport for Arunachal Pradesh, taking the total airport count in the North-East region to 16. From 1947 to 2014, only 9 Airports were built in the North-East. In a short span of the last eight years, 7 airports have been built in the North-East. This rapid development of airports in the region reflects the special emphasis of the Prime Minister on enhancing connectivity in the Northeast. He informed that the number of flights connecting Northeast India has doubled. The Donyi Polo Airport is becoming a witness to the HISTORY and culture of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Modi remarked. Throwing Light on the naming of the airport, the Prime Minister explained that Donyi means the Sun while Polo means the moon. Drawing an analogy to the light of the sun and the moon with the development of the state, the Prime Minister said that the development of the airport is as important as the development of the poor.

In a key step to boost connectivity in the Northeast, the Prime Minister inaugurated the first greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh – Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar. The name of the airport reflects the traditions and rich cultural heritage of Arunachal Pradesh and its age-old indigenous reverence for the Sun (Donyi) and the Moon (Polo).

The airport, which is the first greenfield airport in Arunachal Pradesh, has been developed in an area of over 690 acres, at a cost of more than Rs. 640 crores. With a 2300 m runway, the airport is suitable for all weather day operations. The airport terminal is a modern building, which promotes Energy Efficiency, RENEWABLE ENERGY and the recycling of Resources.

The development of a new Airport in Itanagar will not only improve connectivity in the region but will also act as a Catalyst for the Growth of trade and tourism, thus providing a boost to the Economic Development of the region.

Airports in five northeastern states, namely, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have seen flights take off for the first time in 75 years.

Aircraft movement in the North-East has also witnessed an increase of 113% since 2014, from 852 per week in 2014 to 1817 per week in 2022.

Rs 1,000 Cr-Assam varsity will upskill NE youths: Himanta

Assam Chief MinisterHimanta Biswa Sarmaon Sunday asserted that the Rs 1,000 crore-Assam Skill University will upskill youths of Northeast. Performing ‘bhumi pujan’ for the institute at Darrang district headquarters Mangaldai, around 70 km from Guwahati, Sarma said that the institute will harness the demographic dividend of Assam, which has a very young Population.

“The Rs 1,000-crore institute will have multiple schools and centres of excellence that will play a huge role in upskilling the youths in Northeast. The university will have various campuses across Assam,” he said.

Sarma said a target has been set to complete the construction of the entire campus by August 2025 but an interim complex is expected to start functioning from 2024 itself.

The skill university, first-of-its-kind in Assam and third such institute in the country, will impart Education for Skill development in different sectors such as and innovation, life skills and languages, and design and creativity, through its various schools and courses.

It is being partially funded by the Asian Development Bank.

Mo Seva Kendras to help in high security plates registrations

Mo Seva Kendras were opened by the government across the state to help people pay electricity, water bills and various , receive necessary certificates and avail other public Services. The development assumes significance as theOrissahigh court has been closely monitoring the online booking of HSRPs.

It is mandatory for all vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019, to have HSRP. The STA that already extended several deadlines is likely to relax the October 31 ultimatum in view of the ongoing hearing of the PIL in the High Court. Vehicles, whose registration numbers end with 1, 2, 3 and 4, have been asked to affix the HSRP by October 31.

The government has set November 30 deadline for vehicles, whose registration numbers end with 5 and 6; December 31 for vehicles ending with 7 and 8 numbers; and January 31 for vehicles ending with 9 and 0 registration numbers.

Tamil Nadu: Rs 41 crore subsidy to buy farm machinery

Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture minister M R K Panneerselvam said steps are being taken by the government to popularize the scheme for using machinery for agricultural work to tide over insufficient labour for cultivation. In a statement, he said a GO has been issued to implement the scheme during 2022-23 with an initial allotment of 41.67 crore.

It was announced in the budget that 150 crore would be allocated by both Union and state governments for the implementation of the agricultural mechanization scheme in Naduin 2022-23. Under the scheme, machinery will be given to individual farmers at 40% subsidy and to small, marginal,Adi Dravidar, tribal and Women farmers at 50% subsidy. A maximum of 5 lakh will be given for tractor, 2.25 lakh for mini tractor, 85,000 for power tiller, 5 lakh for paddy planter, 63,000 for weeder, 44,800 for rotary plough and 4,100 for seeder. Likewise, 75,000 subsidy will be given for a groundnut harvester, 50,000 for reversible plough, 11 lakh for paddy harvester, 2.50 lakh for multi-crop thresher and 1.25 lakh for sugarcane leaf thresher.

Mangalore University signs MoU with Agder University

Mangalore Universityand NorwaysUniversity of Agder(Grimstand) have signed a memorandum of understanding for mutual cooperation in any field related to Science and Technology.

This MoU will facilitate joint research projects in areas of mutual interest, including science and technology, social sciences, business administration and physical Education; exchange of academic publications and reports. It will facilitate the organisation of joint seminars, workshops, lectures, conferences, and faculty and student exchange programmes.

Modi to inaugurate fertiliser plant in Telangana

In yet another step to boost urea production and reduce dependence on import of chemical fertilisers to meet domestic requirement,PM Narendra Modiwill inaugurate a fertiliser plant at Ramagundam.

Recently, the production at two major urea Plants atSindriinJharkhandand Barauni in Bihar resumed after decades.

The government notified the New Urea Policy 2015 for existing 25 gas-based urea units with the aim of maximising indigenous urea production; promoting Energy Efficiency in urea production; and rationalising subsidy burden on government.

State to extend green cover outside forests

In a big initiative to reduce carbon emissions, the Centre has grantedAndhra Pradesha scheme to improve its green cover outside of forests.
The programme is being taken up with the support of USAID.

AP is one of the seven states including UP, Haryana, Rajasthan, Assam, Odisha and Naduthat have been picked up to implement the Trees Outside the Forests in India (TOFI) project.

This project has been designed to support farmers, local communities by strengthening Climate resilience of Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture.

The objective is to increase the tree coverage outside traditional forests contributing to Indias determined contribution target of creating an additional Carbon Sink of 2.5-3 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2030.

Goa to rename government schools, higher secondaries after freedom fighters

The state has decided to rename government high schools and higher secondary schools with the names of martyrs who struggled for Goa’s Liberation from Portuguese rule.

The directorate ofeducationhas instructed headmasters and principals of all government high schools and higher secondary schools to identify martyrs or freedom fighters in the locality of the school and submit names in less than two weeks. It hopes to complete the exercise before Goa’s Liberation Day next month.

The department has enclosed a blank copy of the resolution that schools can use, as well as a list of martyrs, in the memorandum that it has sent to all schools.

3 Haryana districts have 100 percent tap connection coverage: Survey

Three districts of Haryana–Ambala, Rohtak and Faridabad have been declared as front runners in Tap connection coverage (100 percent) under Jal Jeevan Survekshan 2022-23 conducted by Government of India. While Ambala is at first place, Rohtak bagged second place and Faridabad third,Chief Secretary, Sanjeev Kaushal said.

Kaushal chaired a meeting of the Committee of Administrative Secretaries, held here to review projects worth more than Rs. 100 crores. About 54 projects worth more than Rs. 100 crores each of 10 departments including Technical Education, Power, Public Health Engineering, Civil Aviation, Public Works (B&R) and Architecture, Health & Family Welfare, Medical Education and Research, Irrigation-and-water”>Irrigation and water Resources, Cooperation and Home were discussed in the meeting. The total cost of all projects was around Rs. 16,000 crores.

The Chief Secretary said that speedy completion of big projects is one of the priorities and administrative secretary should ensure to complete the work of these public welfare projects in a time- bound manner keeping in mind the milestones fixed.
