Lipstick plant found in Arunachal Pradesh after 100 years

Researchers at the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) have rediscovered arare plant, which is sometimes called the Indian lipstick plant, from remote Anjaw district inArunachal Pradeshafter more than a century.

The plant (Aeschynanthus monetaria Dunn) was first identified by British botanist Stephen Troyte Dunn in 1912, based on the plant samples gathered from Arunachal Pradesh by another English botanist,Isaac Henry Burkill.

Excise revenue increased to Rs 5,528.36 cr

The State received excise revenue of Rs 5,528.36 crore in the year 2021-22 whereas in 2020-21 it was Rs 4,053.51 crore and in 2019-20 Rs 4,495.52 crore.

Regarding the licence criteria, the Minister said only the Government-approved and tested liquors are allowed to be sold in shops. If somebody is found selling imported foreign liquor in a Government-licensed shop and found manufacturing spurious liquor, the shop shall be fined Rs 10 lakh and its owner would be imprisoned up to 10 years along with paying fine.

In the last three years, only nine persons reportedly died by consuming illicit or spurious liquor in the State and all cases were reported from Bhadrak district, the Minister said.

The assembly passed a resolution on the eco sensitive zone (ESZ) demanding that the Centre exclude inhabited areas, agriculture fields and public organizations from the ambit of the eco sensitive zones while issuing the final notification.

According to the department of public instruction, there are around 1,387 tonnes of E-Waste lying in 5,000 schools. Gujarat, Karnataka lead ’21 startup ranking, Telangana in ‘top performer’ club

Goa: With Aspirers tag, state climbs few notches in business reforms

The state governments efforts over the last two years to improve theease of doing business(EODB) appear to have borne some fruit, with Goa making it to the top 20 states in the fifth edition of the assessment exercise.

The assessment report under Business Reforms Action Plan for 2020 released by finance ministerNirmala Sitharamanplaced Goa in the Aspirers category, but did not give a ranking.

BRAP 2020 includes 301 reform points covering 15 business regulatory areas such as access to information, single-window system, labour, Environment, land administration and transfer of land and property, utility permits and others. The sluggish pace in regulatory reforms prevented Goa from breaking into the top Achievers category.

Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Rajasthan and West Bengal joined Goa in the Aspirers category.

DPIIT assesses the states through a competitive system in order to spur reforms and also boost investor confidence, foster business-friendly Climate, and augment across the country by introducing an element of healthy competition.

This time around, Goa has managed to return to sit among the top 20 states.

Prioritise diversion of surplus water to Marathwada: CM

Chief minister EknathShinde said the diversion of surplus water from westernMaharashtras rivers to aridMarathwadashould be a priority in order to provide relief to the region. The project was discussed at a meeting on Irrigation schemes in the state.

The Vainganga-Nalganga river linking blue-print is also ready. The scheme will provide irrigation water to parts of the Vidarbha region Amravati, Akola, Buldhana, Wardha and Nagpur. Around 104 irrigation projects in the city are 10-20% incomplete. These should be completed soon, Shinde said.
