Home ministry nod to single-row fencing in west Tripura border

The Union ministry of Home affairs (MHA) has allowed single-rowfencingalong the 6.5-km stretch of India-Bangladesh border at Sonamura in western border ofTripura. The fencing work has been halted for a long time due to strong resistance from villagers of Kalsimura, Shobapur, Rahimpur, N C Nagar and Durgapur.

Along with the , security agencies, including the BSF, have also been trying to complete the single-row fencing work in Sonamura as soon as possible to stop cross-border crime and enhance vigil along the border.

Assam board flip-flop questions future of Assamese study in schools

The Board of Secondary Education, Assams (Seba) flip flop on making Assamese Learning mandatory has raised questions on whether the Assamese language will continue to be taught in schools mushrooming in the state.

English is taking over as the medium of instruction in place of lingua franca Assamese in many English medium schools. Besides, there is a tendency to study Hindi by a section of students instead of Assamese.

After making Assamese study compulsory without making it mandatory for qualifying in the Class 10 boards, Seba has withdrawn its latest notification that had triggered a fresh controversy regarding the study of Assamese language in schools affiliated to Seba.

Keralas second biomedical waste treatment facility at Ernakulam

Yet another commonbiomedical wastetreatment facility (CBWTF) has become operational in the state from Monday. The new facility under the Kerala Enviro Ltd (KEIL) has been set up at Ambalamedu in Ernakulam with a capacity of treating 16 tonnes of biomedical waste per day.

At present, IMAs IMAGE, a common biomedical waste treatment facility in Palakkad, is the only one in the state which has been exclusively handling all the biomedical wastes. In view of the pande,ic situation, IMAGE had stretched its capacity and added new equipment to treat the entire waste coming from Covid care centres. IMAGE has 16,922 government and private healthcare establishments as its clientele.

Self-reliance, boosting capacities central to Andhra Pradeshs new oxygen policy

As part of efforts to make the state self-reliant in Oxygen manufacturing, chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday unveiled the AP Industrial Gases and Medical Oxygen Manufacturing Policy 2021-22.

The policy has been designed to ramp up oxygen manufacturing capacity in the state from the existing 360 metric tonnes (MT) to 700 MT. It targets to set up at least 50 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) oxygen Plants in both captive model (in hospitals) and the non-captive model.

The chief minister has decided to strengthen in view of the exponential surge in demand for medical oxygen, which has touched 600-700 MT during the second wave. The state is presently producing just around 364 MT and the rest is being met through supplies from Odisha, West Bengal and Karnataka.

Governor prorogues budget session

GovernorBhagat Singh Koshyari has prorogued 14th budgetsessionfrom May 12, and now thebudgetwould be passed in monsoon session, said a senior officer.

Recently the state cabinet had taken a decision to prorogue theassemblysession.

After the opposition decided not to attend the meeting to decide on the budget session, chief minister Pramod Sawant cancelled the meeting and spoke to the members over the phone.

In March, the state legislative assembly session was cut short by over two weeks and adjourned till July 19 after the state Election Commission declared the schedule for the second phase of the municipal Elections, bringing into force the Model Code Of Conduct.

All pending business of the house which was listed for the coming days, including the discussion on the budgetary demands and the private members bills submitted by the opposition, was earlier decided to be taken up for discussion and consideration in July, after the session resumes.

Maharashtra started exporting GI certified Gholvad Sapota (chikoo) to the United Kingdom.Highlights:

The Gholvad Sapota, also known as Chikoo, is known for its sweet and distinct flavour.

Its GI certificate is held by Maharashtra Rajya Chikoo Utpadak Sangh

It is believed that the unique taste is attributed to the calcium-rich in Gholvad village.
Gholvad is a village in Palghar district of Maharashtra.

About 5000 hectares of land in the Palgahr district are currently under sapota plantation. Only 147 of the 5000 farmers who grow Sapota are authorised GI users.

The Dahanu Gholvad Sapota is another name for the Gholvad Sapota (Dahanu being the Taluk in which Gholvad is located).

Acting as parens patriae of COVID-19 victims, Punjab Government is all set to extend a helping hand by providing Rs 1,500 per month as social security pension, along with free education up to graduation, for all those children orphaned in the COVID pandemic, as well as the families that have lost their breadwinning member.

Beginning July 1, this year, the Government will ensure free Education in government institutions, for such children as well as children belonging to families that have lost their breadwinner to COVID.

The Chief Minister, announcing the decision, termed it the states duty to become the foster parents of the children who have lost both their parents in the unprecedented pandemic.

Affected persons would also be eligible for grant of Rs 51,000 under Ashirwaad Scheme with effect from July 1, and would be entitled to free ration under the State Smart Ration Card Scheme and coverage under the Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojana.
