President of India Graces 17th Convocation of Mizoram University

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu graced the17thConvocation of Mizoram University at Aizawltoday (November 3, 2022). She alsovirtually inaugurated various Education related projects which includes ST Girls hostels at Mizoram University and at Sairang, Government Aizawl College at Maulpui, permanent campus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) at Aizawl and Post Graduate Academic Block at Pachhunga University College.

The President noted that the Mizoram University has three Incubators for providing innovative and practical training to the students. The University has signed MoUs with various universities and organisations at national and international level for various academic and technological collaborations.

She said that this has set a new template for other higher education institutions to explore avenues for collaborating with national and and create new benchmarks of excellence in academic and technological spheres.

Discussions held to formulate Assam’s Tea Policy

Assam Minister for Industries and Commerce Bimal said that the State Government is determined to work on the improvement of tea estates and to shoulder the social responsibilities of the Industry.

The components include among other replacements of old Plants and machinery, financial assistance for opening tea boutiques, new blending and packaging industries, participating in trade fairs national and international, quality certification, organic tea certification of the factory and export support for sending tea directly from Assam to overseas countries.

Assam contributes more than 50 per cent of the country’s production and as such the responsibility to upscale the quantum of consumption weighs heavily on the tea industry which calls for a proactive policy.

Odisha government to give monthly pension to transgenders

The Odisha government has decided to include members of thetransgender communityin a social welfare scheme which provides amonthly pensionto the needy.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a proposal to cover the members of the community underthe Madhu Babu Pension Yojana(MBPY) which aims at providing financial assistance to the destitute elderly, differently-abled persons and widows, he said.

Around 5,000 transgenders will get a monthly pension in between Rs 500 and Rs 900 depending on their age, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) minister Ashok Panda said.

The government’s decision was taken in view of the promises made in the ruling BJD’s manifesto for the 2019 Assemble polls, the minister said.

An indigenous technology from IIT Madras can now produce new-generation super-abrasive tools

A newly developed technology can now produce new-generation multi-point/single-layer superabrasive tools for advanced grinding applications to meet high productivity and energy-efficient material removal requirements. The tools produced also have enhanced tool life.

Grinding industries have aired their voices for developing advanced superabrasive cBN/diamond tools that meet high productivity and energy-efficient material removal requirements and customization based on local needs.

In a nutshell, these superabrasive tools can be produced using active brazing technology with remarkably striking attributes of high crystal exposure above bond level. The joint strength and wear-resistant characteristics of bond of these tools are superior to those of their commercial counterparts. These tools can withstand more grinding force, offer significantly higher tool life, and execute load-free grinding of advanced materials with an extremely high material removal rate.

Total 837 ration licensees willing to establish K-Stores: Anil

837 licensees have evinced interest in partnering with the government to establish Kerala Stores (or K-Stores). The government intended to launch at least five such multi-service centres in each district in the initial phase of the project, he added.

The proposed outlets will have an area of not less than 300 sq ft. Ration dealers who express willingness to establish the outlets will be provided priority. Preference will also be given for those outlets situated in locations where there are no Supplyco outlets, banks and Akshaya centres within a radius of 2 km.

Karnataka to get $76-m space taxi, propulsion systems facility

A research and development (R&D) centre and manufacturing factory for space taxis (orbital transfer vehicles or OTVs) and propulsion systems for rockets and satellites is expected to begin first-phase operations on a five-acre facility at the aerospace park near Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) by late 2023.
The new facility, expected to be worth $76 million (around Rs 630 crore) once fully operational, will be established by space tech firm Bellatrix Aerospace, a Bengaluru-headquartered company specialising in in-orbit propulsion systems and OTVs/space taxis.

At the new facility, aside from the space taxi, the firm will manufacture four of its thrusters theHallthruster, microwave plasma thruster, nano thrusters and green propulsion systems.

Telangana: 1.5 lakh visually impaired voters to get Braille guides

In another step towards making the voting process easier for visually impaired electors, voters guides will be made available inBraillefor the next general . Officials said that nearly 1.5 lakh visually impaired voters InTelanganawill be benefited through the new initiative.

Currently, visually challenged voters have voter ID cards in Braille script and at the voting booth, they are also provided with ballot papers in Braille. With the new initiative coming into force, they can read the guidelines before going to the polling booth without depending on others.

TheElection Commission of Indiaasked the states to print the guides in regional languages. In Telangana, the commissioner and director, Welfare Of Disabled, has translated the guidelines from Hindi toTeluguand soon the same will also be printed in Braille script.

Andhra Pradesh among top seven states in PGI ratings

Andhra Pradeshhas been ranked seventh in the performance grading index (PGI) ratings released by the Union Education ministry.

The state, which has been implementing a variety of reforms in the , attained the best rating of L2 along with six other states.Gujarat,Rajasthanand AP are the new entrants to L2 level, with the state, which secured an overall score of 811 PGI in 2019-20, improving its score to 902 PGI.

The PGI is constructed based on 70 identified indicators and two categories containing five domains. The data for PGI 2020-21 was drawn from several sources including unified district information system for education plus (UDISE+) and national achievement survey. AP secured 154 PGI out of 180 in Learning outcomes and quality domain.

GOA MARITIME SYMPOSIUM- 2022

Fourth edition of biennial Goa Maritime Symposium was conducted successfully by the INDIAN NAVY at Goa from 31 October to 01 November 2022.

Coming out of the shadows of global COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Navy was delighted to witness physical participation of overseas delegates from all 12 invitees. Representatives from Navies and Maritime Agencies from 12 Friendly Foreign Indian Ocean littoral countries, which included Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand, besides India, attended the Symposium, conducted by the Naval War College, Goa.

India has consistently advocated of the concept of for maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region. The Goa Maritime Symposium and the Goa Maritime Conclave, conducted by the Indian Navy in alternating years is a manifestation of such efforts.

Maharashtra: Flat owners to get vertical property cards soon

The state governments approval to the draft for issuingvertical property cardsto flat owners of MahaRERA-registered projects is expected soon.

The move would ensure supplementaryverticalproperty cards for flats with details of ownership, carpet area, bank loan information and other details. The aim of issuing it is to map the vertical Growth in cities and rural areas. It would also help maintain an independent record of rights and register for individual apartments in projects.

The draft to issue vertical property cards drew lot of suggestions and objections. The committee constituted for vertical property cards submitted them to the state before the draft was framed.

The state issues property cards for land in urban areas and 7/11 extracts in rural areas.
