Manipur scheme to support children orphaned by Covid

On the occasion of the NDA government completing seven years at the Centre, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday announced the Chief Ministers Bal Seva Scheme (Chief Minister gi Angang-gi Tengbang) for children orphaned by Covid-19.

Meant for those children who have lost both their parents/surviving parent/legal guardians/adoptive parent to the pandemic, the government would provide a maintenance amount of Rs 3,500 per month if any such child wished to stay in non-institutional care i.e. under the care of an extended family or guardian, read a statement issued by the CMs office.

The Centre has been providing Rs 2,160 for every child per month to child care institutions as a maintenance amount for those below 10 years of age and not having an extended family or guardian.

The Assam governmentannounced free power supply to new oxygen plants

The Assam government announced free power supply to encourage setting up of new Oxygen Plants as well as revival of the closed ones to avert any shortage of the live-saving gas amid the coronavirus pandemic.

sources said the decisions will not only help enhance the production capacity to fight the challenge posed by Covid-19 but will also help Assam in its efforts to become the oxygen hub of the Northeast.

The demand for medical oxygen has gone up with the increase in Covid-19 cases in Assam and the Northeast.

The State Government on Saturday renamed its Forest & Environment Department as Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department.

The department would now give focus on https://exam.pscnotes.com/Climate-change”>Climate Change along with forest and Environment protection and conservation, The department would be the nodal agency of the State for Climate Change Actions.

Development of State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) along with other plan, policy, programme, project on climate actions and implementation plan in line with the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) and Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), 2015 as per the State perspective in close coordination with the line departments would be its responsibility.

It would focus on formulation of policies for promotion of non- conventional alternative sources of power like solar and Wind Energy and publicity to encourage use of such Resources. Mobilisation of finance from various national, international, multilateral, bilateral and other sources, including private partners, would be its lookout.

The capacity enhancement of Government departments, institutions and organisations (both Government and non-Government) to deal with emerging climate change issues in the State along with promotion of awareness on climate change and its impact would also be within its jurisdiction.

Tamil Nadus borrowing cost rises marginally

Nadus borrowing cost went up marginally by 4-6 basis points in this weeks bond auction, when compared to last week.

The State raised 3,000 crore through the issue of long tenure Bonds of 30 years and 25 years respectively with an interest of 7.03% each. In the previous week, it had raised 3,000 crore through the issue of bonds with tenures of 20 and 25 years with interests of 6.99% and 6.97% respectively, according to data from the Reserve Bank Of India.

The weighted Average cost of borrowing for State governments across States and tenures was 6.86%, 12 basis points higher than last week, the ratings firm CARE Ratings said.

Karnataka high court second in country to livestream proceedings

TheKarnataka became the second HC in the country, after Gujarat, to livestreamproceedings. On trial basis, the hearing in Court Hall No 1 of two PILs challenging the Karwar port expansion project was live streamed on YouTube close to an hour in the afternoon.

Livestreaming of court proceedings has been a long-standing demand of advocates. The matter had reached theSupreme Courtwhich said in 2018 that it is up to the chief justices of respective high courts. Recent comments by new Chief Justice of India NV Ramana that The Supreme Court is actively considering the option has further strengthened the demand.

With lockdowns becoming all too common in the pandemic, the judiciary has started hearing matters through video-conferencing.

Now, Telangana government plans to promote IT in tier-III towns

After creating information technology (IT) hubs in tier-II towns in the state, the government is now contemplating to develop similar in tier-III towns.

If the governments plans work out,new IT towerswould come up in tier-III towns like Ramagundam in Peddapalli district and Wanaparthy district headquarter apart from Nalgonda, atierII town and district headquarters within a year. The IT department had already developedIT towersin Warangal, Khammam and Karimnagar, while the ones at Siddipet, Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar were under construction.

The government has been promoting setting up new IT towers with a purpose to decentralise IT development, which will provide EMPLOYMENT opportunities to locals. Secondly, the present move would also decongest the IT corridor, especially in the western part of the city, and there would not be any infrastructure problem in tier-II and III towns.

NEP guides Andhra Pradeshs early childhood education plans

TheAndhra Pradeshschool Education department is planning to roll out early childhood care and education in a phased manner in Anganwadis, primary and high schools. This would be based on the recommendations made in theNational Education Policy(NEP) 2020.

As part of the programme, pre-primary education would be started in government schools. Under this proposed new model, all the existing Anganwadi Centres will function as YSR Pre Primary Schools with pre-primary (PP1 and PP2) classes. The primary schools in Andhra Pradesh will have preparatory 1st class, class I and class II, and they will be called foundational schools.

In a circular issued by the school education department, director, school education, Chinaveerabhadrudu Vadrevu, asked the regional and district-level officials to follow the guidelines and exercise the possibilities.

It was asked to propose the best mapping of existing schools to transform to the new structure of 5+3+3+4, duly focusing on early childhood care and education and foundational Learning.

Make your village ‘corona free’, win Rs 50 lakh: Maharashtra government

TheMaharashtragovernment announced a “corona freevillage” contest with an aim to encourage steps to curb the spread ofCovid-19in rural areas of the state.

Chief ministerUddhav Thackerayrecently lauded efforts made by some villages to stem the spread of the viral infection and announced the “My Village Corona Free” initiative.

The “corona free village” contest is part of the initiative announced by the chief minister, stateRural DevelopmentMinisterHasan Mushrifsaid in a statement.

Prizeswill be given to three village panchayats doing good work in Covid-19 management in each revenue division.

The first prize will be of Rs 50 lakh, second of Rs 25 lakh and third of Rs 15 lakh, the minister said.
