Rs 1K cr for drainage system in villages, says Dushyant

Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said permanent arrangements are being made for drainage of rainwater with an expenditure of Rs 1,100 crore by the in order to protect the crops. He stated that from next year, arrangements will be made to ensure proper drainage of water from the waterlogged fields within four hours.

He said digital libraries will be set up in all state villages. The work of setting up libraries in 1,000 villages has been completed and by the end of the year, work of setting up libraries in 4,000 villages will be completed. Also, by 2024, the target of setting up digital libraries in all the state villages will be achieved.

Punjab all set to roll out U-WIN to digitize Universal Immunisation Prog in state

Buoyed by the success of digitization of the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) in Punjabs two districts Hoshiarpur and SBS Nagar (Nawanshahr), the states Health and Family Welfare Department is all set to roll out U-WIN a digital platform for UIP in all the districts of Punjab from August this year.

The pilot programme had remained a huge success with both the districts having been able to achieve the desired targets by registering 92 per cent session sites on board, while 102 per cent newborns were registered against pregnancy outcomes, and 90 per cent of the registered newborns were provided birth doses of Vaccines through this digital platform.

Pertinently, immunization has been a proven and cost effective strategy to prevent the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases and UIP in Punjab covers 11 diseases and aims to reach over 4.37 lakh newborns and 4.80 lakh pregnant Women every year.

MoUs inked for development of skills in youth

Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam (HPKVN) has signed 10 new memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with various Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) to create better academic avenues for the youth of Himachal Pradesh.

These MoUs were signed between the Managing Director HPKVN, Jatin Lal and representatives of 10 different SSCs here today. A total of 4,000 combined seats would now be available for different free courses to the youth. The HPKVN will spend almost Rs 15 crore on these training programmes.

Third G20 IWG meeting begins in Rishikesh

The third Infrastructure Working Group (IWG) meeting under the Indian G20 presidency commenced in Rishikesh. The three-day IWG meeting is being attended by about 63 delegates across G20 member countries, invitee countries and International Organisations.

Two sessions were held on the first day wherein the delegates discussed two work streams under the flagship Financing Cities of Tomorrow: Inclusive, Resilient and Sustainable. The delegates also acknowledged the efforts of the presidency to achieve meaningful progress across the workstreams.

He said that the State faces natural disasters throughout the year. Considering this, the infrastructure should be built in such a manner that it proves useful to the general public even during disaster scenarios. He referred to the frequent Earthquakes in Japan and the technological developments made by that country to minimise damage to the people and their homes during seismic events.

MSMEs get Rs 20,000 crore, to create 17 lakh jobs

In a fresh leg-up to the state’s medium, small and micro enterprises (MSMEs), loans to the tune of Rs 20,000 crore were disbursed.

The payout would fund over 3.41 lakh new projects that promise to create 17 lakh jobs in the state.

Lauding the move, announced at an event to mark International MSME day, Chief MinisterYogi Adityanathsaid: “The MSME units in the state are the source of livelihood for crores of people. An additional 7.5 lakh youths would benefit from the PM and CM internship schemes running in the state.”

50k schoolchildren to be involvedin seed bombing for natures sake

The state awaits a massive seed bombing thismonsoonas hundreds of schoolchildren are being trained to make seed bombs in a bid to fightglobal warmingand increase greenery in a state which was left with just 9% of green cover after Jharkhand was carved out of it in November 2000.

Seed bombing is a technique of introducing vegetation by throwing or dropping seed balls on the barren land or at places which require plantation. The children are being trained under the supervision of Tarumitra, a nationwide students organisation to promote ecological sensitivity about environmental conservation.

As part of this unique green campaign, the schoolchildren in groups are being trained on ways to collect seeds of the Plants, how to fill them inside balls of fertile and let them dry up before bombing them along the riverbanks, barren sites, roads, RAILWAY tracks and the hills with little vegetation. The students have been advised to throw the seed bombs once the rainy season starts since it increases the chances of their quick germination owing to availability of moisture in the Atmosphere.

Biharwas left with a paltry 9% of green cover as almost all the forest areas fell in newly carved Jharkhand after its bifurcation. Thanks to the extensive afforestation drive over the years, the states green cover has now reached 15%, but the State Government now wants to further bring it to 17%.

Indore to host World snooker, billiards

The countrys cuesportsconnoisseurs are in for a treat as after a gap of nine years, India will host the IBSF World Snooker (15-red) Championships and the World Billiards Championships in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, from October 15-30.

The IBSF events will be held at the Yeshwant Club in Indore, confirmed Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) president S Balasubramaniam on Friday. This will be the first time the country will host both the events in the same year. Bengaluru last played host to both snooker in 2014 and billiards way back in 2008.

India had officially bid for the event last year, by the previous team, and the IBSF confirmation came two days ago, said the BSFI chief. Over 250 cueists from 40-45 countries are expected to take part in both IBSF World events.

Gujarat to seek hike in Narmada water share

As theNarmada Water Disputes Tribunal(NWDT) prepares to review the allocation ofNarmada waterto stakeholder states in 2024, theGujaratgovernment has initiated a crucial process to determine the state’s water requirement.
With the last NWDT award dating back to over four decades to 1979, Gujarat aims to secure a significant boost in its share of Narmada water, considering the substantial Growth in Irrigation area and the doubling of the state’s Population.

Under the 1979 award, the total water availability in the Narmada basin from July 1 to June 30 stood at 28 million acre-feet (MAF), with Gujarat receiving 9MAF, Madhya Pradesh getting 18.25MAF, and Maharashtra and Rajasthan being awarded 0.25MAF each.

To streamline the process, the state Narmada, Resources“>Water Resources, and water supply department has instructed all field and constituent offices to compile correspondence files from various stakeholders. The matter is periodically reviewed by the state chief secretary and top officials. Officials of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited have been directed to provide original copies of correspondence related to the NWDT award to the head office.

Established by the Centre on October 6, 1969, the NWDT was tasked with resolving the Narmada water-sharing dispute. The tribunal’s award, announced on December 7, 1979, was subsequently notified by the Union Government, making it binding on the disputing parties: Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
