Meghalaya e-proposal system wins prestigious UN award

The state planning departments key initiative of e-proposal system, part ofMeghalaya Enterprise Architecture(MeghEA), has won a covetedUN Award World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS) Prizes, 2022.

Taking cognizance of this, chief ministerConrad K Sangmain 2019 initiated MeghEA, which is being implemented by the planning department, Government of Meghalaya, an official statement said.

The e-proposal system now automates sanctions and administrative approvals of all the departments and directorates in Meghalaya and delivers government services with desired outcomes to all the citizens and other stakeholders across the state in an integrated and seamless manner. It eliminates 75% of physical files in government departments

94% students failed to avail educational scholarship in Assam during pandemic: Study

A nation-wide study by non-profit organisation, Save the Children-Bal Raksha Bharat, on the impact of Covid-19 on children showed thatAssamhas the maximum number (94%) of students in the country who could not apply for pre and post matric government scholarships during the pandemic.

In terms of Learning continuity and support from the community in both the elementary and pre-school levels, the least effort was found to be in Assam (68%) while the highest was recorded inKarnatakain both categories, according to the report. But efforts by Anganwadi workers to help in the continuity of learning through Home visits were the highest (41%) in Assam.

The state has fared better than most other states in terms of home visits by teachers in elementary Education. It was the highest in Assam (17% instances) among the six states surveyed. The report said around one-fourth (27%) households reported that at least one family member was infected with Covid since 2020 and 65% of the infected households had to face repercussions from neighbours or from the community. The stigmatisation was reported almost nil in Assam.

Odisha: Government forms body to monitor dams

The government on Monday formed a separateState Dam Safety Organisation(SDSO) to monitor safety of Dams and to undertake their repair and maintenance.

The SDSO will be headed by a chief engineer (dam safety) and will be headquartered in Bhubaneswar. It was formed as per the Dam Safety Act, 2021, which mandates that all states should form such organisations within 180 days from the date of commencement of this Act from December 14, 2021.

The department also notified the Dam Safety (Procedures, Allowance and Other Expenditure) Rules, 2022, and formed a state committee on dam safety to review the work done by the SDSO and provide strategic supervision for dam improvement and rehabilitation programmes.

The SDSO will keep perpetual surveillance, carry out inspections and monitor the operation and maintenance of all specified dams falling under its jurisdiction to ensure their continued safety and take steps to address safety concerns.

Rubber, plastic sector in Tamil Nadu offer 4,500 jobs

Apprenticeship and job opportunities are opening up in the rubber and plastic sector in Naduthis financial year.

Over 4,500 vacancies have been generated for apprenticeship and placement in the two sectors in the state, saidDeepmala Moorjani, senior manager Industry connect, Rubber, Chemical & Petrochemical Skill development Council (RCPSDC) at the just concluded skill meet organised in Chennai.

Several large players in the state have shown keen interest in hiring skilled manpower including the likes of tyre and parts majors like MRF, Ceat, Apollo Tyres, Sundaram Industries, Minda, JBM Auto andEmerald Tyressaid Annama Jacob, regional manager south, RCPSDC. There are nearly 6,000 rubber and plastic manufacturing industries in Tamil Nadu.

837 ration licensees willing to establish K-Stores: Anil

Food and Civil Supplies Minister G.R. Anil has said that 837 licensees have evinced interest in partnering with the government to establish Kerala Stores (or K-Stores). The government intended to launch at least five such multi-service centres in each district in the initial phase of the project, he added.

The proposed outlets will have an area of not less than 300 sq ft. Ration dealers who express willingness to establish the outlets will be provided priority. Preference will also be given for those outlets situated in locations where there are no Supplyco outlets, banks and Akshaya centres within a radius of 2 km.

Ktaka ranking slips in life expectancy at birth table

In four decades,Karnatakas life expectancy at birth has gone down from the second best to the lowest insouth India.

As per Abridged Life Tables 2015-19 of the Sample Registration System (SRS), Karnatakas life expectancy at birth in 1970-75 was 55.2 years, the second highest in South India.Keralahad the highest life expectancy at birth with 75.2 years. AP and TN trailed Karnataka with 48.8 years and 49.6 years, respectively. In 2015-19, all the other south Indian states have left Karnataka behind with 69.5 years of life expectancy at birth.

Telangana among top 100 emerging startup ecosystems globally: Global Startup Ecosystem Report

India’s startup stateTelanganahas featured among the top 100 emerging startup Ecosystems globally, retaining its position in the 61-70 rank category but falling behind Chennai and Pune in the 10th edition of the Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) 2022 that was released recently.

Last year, Hyderabad had featured on the rankings, scoring in the 61-70 ranks along with Mumbai, Pune and Chennai, but this year the city was replaced by , albeit in the same rank range as last year.

However, Telangana’s startup ecosystem stood among the top 10 in the Global Ecosystem in Affordable Talent and Asian Ecosystem in Funding, while it featured in the top 15 in terms of the Global Ecosystem in Bang for Buck, as per the report.

As per the report, Telangana saw a total early stage funding to the tune of $273 million in the H22019-2021 period as compared to the global Average of $687 million, and its ecosystem value during the period stood at around $4.8 billion as against the global average of $28.6 billion.

11.5% people consume booze in Andhra Pradesh: Survey

Amidst raging debate over the growing revenue from the liquor sales in the state, National Family Health Survey (NFHS-V) has come out with an interesting fact that alcohol consumption in the state is way below many of the neighbouring states.

Alcohol consumers in the above 15 years age bracket in the state are much less than the numbers in the bordering states including , Chattisgarh, Odisha andTamil Nadu. However, AP stood slightly above the national Average in alcohol consumption, according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-V).

NFHSfound that about 11.5 per cent of the total Population in AP is reportedly consuming alcohol against the national average of 9.9 percent. Alcohol consumers in Telangana are very high in numbers as it is one of the top consumers in the country. NFHS said that about 24 per cent in the above 15 years population is consuming liquor in Telangana while it is around 19 per cent in Chattisgarh and 16 percent in Odisha. Around 12.27 per cent of the Tamil Nadu population and 13.37 per cent of Puduchery were found to be consuming alcohol.

Goa: Get ecology report for Delta project nod, Green body

The Goa State Environment Impact AssessmentAuthority(Goa-SEIAA) has received an application for environment clearance for setting up of the Deltin Town project atDhargalimin Pernem.

The Goa-SEIAA deliberated on the proposal earlier this month and has set terms of reference, based on which the environment clearance can be sought.

The project proponent has been asked to carry out ECOLOGY and studies of the area. The project, the Authority has said, should have an energy plan as per environment clearance standards. This means that at least part of the project should make use of RENEWABLE ENERGY sources like solar power.

The project is proposed to include three hotels, a convention centre, a multiplex cinema, a retail area, a water park, banquet facilities and a childrens entertainment area.

Maharashtra govt plans new body for urban health services

In a bid to strengthen the public Health system in cities, the will soon set up a separate directorate of health Services to oversee healthcare issues in urban areas, reportsMalathy Iyer.

Maharashtraalready has two directors of health servicesone based out of Mumbai and another in Punewhile the new third director will coordinate with the 27 civic bodies in the state.

There are indications that the restructuring will begin later this week or fortnight depending on the political situation in the state.
