Northeast region has more potential to produce top athletes, says IOA chief Batra

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) presidentNarinder Batra said there is more potential in the country’snortheastregion than in any other part to produce talented sportspersons.
He said that athletes from the northeast region are “immensely talented” and possess tremendous physical endurance to withstand the rigours of playing a competitive sport.
Batra stated that the northeast region would produce more and more top athletes in the future.

Batra also commended the work of the government which he said was developing Infrastructure and working at the grass root level and rural areas.
Batra is also a member of International Olympic Committee (IOC) and president of International Hockey Federation (FIH).

Assam Police ranks third in country in smart policing index of the IPF

TheAssam Policehas ranked third in the country in overall rating in the index for public perceptions and citizen satisfaction in a survey for 2021 conducted by theIndian Police Foundation(IPF).

Based on the Philosophy underlying the Prime Minister’sSMART policingidea, IPF used six competency-based dimensions and three values-based dimensions of trust in the survey.

The SMART Scores are set on a scale of 1 to 10 and are indicative of the levels of citizen satisfaction, a score of 10 being the highest level of satisfaction. The levels of popular satisfaction with the quality of policing was highest in Andhra Pradesh (8.11), (8.10),Assam(7.89), Kerala (7.53), Sikkim (7.18), Mizoram (7.14) and Gujarat (7.04) in that order, with an index value of seven or above, 19 states and UTs scored an index value between six and seven, while three states scored between five and six.

Under the three value-based dimensions of trust, Assam Police has ranked third in both “perception index of fair, unbiased and lawful policing” and “perception index of police accountability” but fourth in “perception index of Integrity and Corruption-free Services.”

Odisha govt to set up cyber security operation centre to protect applications

In a big leap towardscybersecurity, theOdishagovernment is all set to establish a robust mechanism to protect its websites and applications from hackers. Acyber security operationcentre (CSOC) is being built on the premises ofOdisha Computer Application Centre(OCAC) Tower to prevent any cyber intrusion and defacement attempts.

Initially, the system will be made operational on state data centre (SDC) where the government applications have been hosted, state wide area Network (SWAN), and secretariat . Later, other government infrastructures will be integrated with CSOC.

CSOC will scan or monitor the network round the clock to flag any suspicious activities. The centre will issue alerts about emerging threats to prevent any harm. The CSOC will minutely examine each threat, discard false threats and ascertain real threats. In view of any threat, the centre would act as a first responder, performing actions like shutting down or isolating endpoints, terminating harmful processes or preventing them from executing and deleting files.

Tamil Nadu signs MoUs with 59 companies; 76,795 jobs to be created

TheTamil Nadugovernment signedMoUswith 59 companies attracting investments to the tune of Rs 35,208 crore across the state.

These include MoUs with seven companies for aerospace and DEFENCE systems manufacturing at an of Rs 485 crore. These MoUs were exchanged in the presence of chief ministerM K Stalinat an industrial conference in Coimbatore. Stalin said given the pace of investment and Growth for TN, the day was not far for the state to achieve the target of one trillion dollar economy.

The projects ranging from garment manufacturing, cement production to Dairy and defence systems manufacturing are expected to provide jobs to 76,795 people.

Stalin also laid the foundation stone for 13 projects worth Rs 13,413 crore and launched commercial production in ten projects that had come up at an investment of Rs 3,928 crore. Government authorities said that in all 92,420 people would get jobs through these 82 projects put together.

Kerala primary school introduces unisex uniform for students

Kerala, has taken things a step further and believes in a holistic approach to encourage gender neutrality in the state. And it wants to engage a crucial section of Population which matters the most children.

So while a section of the country went up in arms over a teachers training manual meant to make the nations schools more sensitive towards and inclusive of all genders, the Left government in this southern state has announced that it would back the idea of gender neutral uniforms in schools a concept that was perhaps hitherto unthinkable for students and academics alike.

Valayanchirangara government Lower Primary School, near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam district, which has a strength of 754 students has taken the first step towards gender neutrality and introduced a new uniform for their students a 3/4th shorts and shirt, irrespective of the gender.

The new dress code was planned in 2018 and was introduced in the lower primary section of the school and this academic year, when the schools were reopened after the pandemic induced lockdown, it has been extended to all students. General Education minister V Sivankutty said it was an admirable move and the government will promote such gender inclusive activities.

Karnataka celebrates Kanakadasa Jayanthi

Karnataka celebrated Kanakadasa Jayanthi on November 22, 2021 to pay tribute to Shri Kanaka Dasa, who was the 15th century poet, saint and social reformer.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai garlanded the photograph of Kanaka Dasa in Bengaluru.

Kanaka Dasa had advocated social and Justice through kirtans.

Kaginele was the birthplace of Saint Kanaka Dasa. Government of Karnataka refurbished it, for the convenience of public visiting there.

This festival is celebrated by people of Karnataka and Kuruba community in Karnataka. It is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of saint Kanaka Dasa, every year. In tribute to him, Government of Karnataka has declared this day as state holiday. Year 2021 marked the 527-birth anniversary.

Kanaka Dasa was a Haridasa, and a renowned composer of Carnatic Music, poet, musician and philosopher. He is famous for his keertanas and ugabhoga, compositions for Carnatic Music. He used simple Kannada language for his compositions. He was born in Baada village, near Bankapura. The saint was warrior at Bankapura fort.

University of Hyderabad gets Rs 6 crore for research on tomato

University of Hyderabad(UoH) has received funding of Rs 6 crore from the department of Biotechnology (DBT) to take up research on plant metabolomics (study of small Molecules) and proteomics (study of proteins) over a period of four years at Repository ofTomato Genomics Resources(RTGR).

Established in 2010, RTGR conducts advanced scientific research in the frontier areas of genomics, proteomics and metabolomics oftomatoin order to improve the Nutrition and shelf-life of tomatoes. Given its scientific contributions, DBT recognised RTGR as a centre of excellence for genome engineering in tomato.

Andhra Pradesh cities continue winning streak in Swachh 2021 survey

Major cities ofAndhra Pradesh-Vijayawada,Tirupatiand Visakhapatnam – continued their winning streak in Swachh Survekshan 2021, the results of which were released.

Vijayawada emerged as the thirdcleanest cityin the country, while Vizag retained its ninth position from last year’s survey in the category of cities with more than 10 lakh Population.

Tirupati stood third place in the category of cities with a population of one to 10 lakh population. Other major cities that made their mark in the same category were Rajahmundry (41st rank), Kurnool (70), Kakinada (103) and Nellore (107).

In overall rankings (cities with more than one lakh population), Vijayawada occupied third place, Tirupati seventh place and Vizag 18th rank. These cities also got several individual Awards.

When it comes to rankings of major states that have more than 100 , Andhra Pradesh stood fifth. Visakhapatnam district was the ninth cleanest district as per the survey, while Krishna was ranked 22nd in the same category.

Crime-handling, infra places Valpoi PS among Indias best

Valpoipolice station has been ranked fourthamongthe 10bestpolice stations in the country under the Union Home ministrys annual exercise of grading Police stations to boost functioning and promise healthy competition among police stations.

The grading is based on crime handling, and approachability of personnel towards the public among other parameters.

They inspected basic amenities for visitors including waiting area, toilets, availability of drinking water and public facilitation desk. Besides, facilities for Women cops, safety of the armoury and other parameters set for best police stations were also assessed.

Aurangabad city moves up to 22nd position

The historic city ofAurangabadhas improved its ranking to 22ndpositionin the annualcleanliness surveyamong cities with more than 10 lakh Population.
Last year, the city was ranked 26th in the country and 8th at the state level. The city is now ranked 6th in the state in the survey, whose results were released by the ministry of housing and urban affairs.

Notably, the Aurangabad has moved past local civic bodies of Nagpur, Kalyan Dombivli, Vasai Virar and Mumbai in the ranking. Aurangabad secured 3,765 points from total 6,000, said an official release.
