Arunachal Pradesh, a highly vulnerable state toclimate change, has come up with the Climate Change Management Mission 2047, a roadmap for the state to contribute to the global efforts to minimise and mitigate the crisis.

The plan aims to attain Climate regulation, increase carbon sinks and reduce CO2 emissions, increase green cover, restore the eco-system and improve livelihood and opportunities.
Chief ministerPema Khandu, chairing the 7th e-Pragati meeting virtually in Itanagar on Tuesday, said Arunachal Pradesh, being a part of the Himalayas and with one of the largest forest covers in the country, has a big role to play in dealing with and Global Warming.

According to records, the state witnessed an increase annual mean temperature of 0.05 degrees Celsius per year and 0.59 degrees Celsius in the past 40 years. From 1980 to 2019, a significant decreasing trend in southwest monsoon rainfall and also in annual rainfall has been observed along with increase in the number of dry spells and decrease in rainy days.

These states, mostly in the eastern part of the country, require prioritisation of adaptation interventions, the report pointed out.

Tea Park Set up in Assam

The State of Assam is setting up a tea Park at Chhaygaon in Kamrup District. This tea park will have rail and port connectivity, cargo and warehouse amenities, processing Services like tea grinding, blending, packaging and other utility offerings under one roof.

The fund now has a deposit of over Rs 16,000 crore, official sources said. The board of directors of OMBADC headed by chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra has sanctioned projects like development of secondary schools, environmental monitoring and Sports development projects.

Under the secondary school development programme, the has planned to develop smart classroom, e-library, science laboratory, information Communication technology (ICT) laboratory and other Infrastructure in 889 secondary schools in Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts.

The aim of the school development programme is to provide exposure to students in the mining-affected districts. Around Rs 533 crore has been earmarked for it. The Money will be utilised to enhance the Learning eco-system in government schools in the mining-affected districts, said the chief secretary.

Ecologically sustainable aquaculture based on symbiotic technology is set to revolutionise the coastal aquaculture industry in the country. The aquaculture based on symbiotic technology is a guaranteed way for achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for doubling the aqua farmers’ income, said Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa Fisheries University (TNJFU) vice-chancellor G Sugumar. He was speaking after inaugurating the project on standardised pond-based culture technique for commercially important marine finfishes and pond-based recirculated aquaculture system (RAS) for vannamei shrimp at Chippikulam near Thoothukudi. Sugumar said the initiative launched by Kings Infra in association with the university to promote the project would help the aquaculture farming practice to be truly sustainable in the country. The recirculated aquaculture system (RAS) empowers farmers to utilise water to the maximum sustainable levels by eliminating possible wastage by converting the same to another resource.

The number of untraced missing children substantially increased by 15% inAndhra Pradeshin 2020 compared to 2019, according to the latest Crime in India report released by theNational Crime Records Bureau(NCRB).

By the end of 2020, 636 children, including 549 from previous years, were yet to be traced. In 2019, 549 children were yet to be traced.

Around 58% of the untraced children are girls while 264 are boys. With the increase in number of untraced children, the total tracing rate has dropped to 80.7% in 2020 compared to 83.3% in 2019.

Last year, a total of 2,745 children went missing, of which 2,092 were girls, accounting for 76% of cases.

In 2019, the number of cases of missing children stood at 2,476, however, the Percentage of missing girl children increased by 6% in 2020 compared to 2019. On the bright side, 2,658 children who went missing in 2020 were traced the same year.

After thehigh court of Bombay at Goaexpressed shock that tree authorities for North and South Goa had not met since their constitution in 2012, the authorities held a joint meeting based on court directives. A compliance report, as directed by the court, was filed, where it has been stated that the forest department is in the process of developing adedicatedonlineportal for applications seeking permissions for tree felling across Goa.

However, the state has told the court that it is not feasible to carry out a tree census in Goa as directed by the court, as it is a herculean task and Goas Climate leads to dense vegetation Growth within a short time. Once the online portal is operational, the entire process of tree felling (permissions) will be online, it said.

Presently, the forest department on a regular basis is uploading the permissions granted for tree felling on the forest departments website, reads the compliance report submitted by member secretaries of the tree authorities.

About the census, the tree authorities have said in the compliance report that the Forest Surveys of India, a body of the Union Environment ministry, has already surveyed the forest and tree cover in Goa. As per the 2019 report, Goas forest cover increased from 60.2% during the previous survey year to 60.4%.
