BSF plants 1.28 lakh saplings along Tripura border

In an unique initiative forWorld Environment Day, theBorder Security Force(BSF),TripuraFrontier has planted 1.28 lakh saplings of medicinal Plants and fruit-bearing trees in all of it’s border outposts and camps along the Indo-Bangladesh border for the last one week.

The saplings belong to seven varieties of local seasonal fruits and nine varieties of medicinal plants, which have been promoted by forest department of Tripura, considering the Climate condition and scope of value addition for the larger market.

In 2019, Tripura government had announced in the state budget a monthly assistance of Rs 200 to each family in the state for nourishing the plants in front of their houses after launching a new project titled “One Plant @ One Rupee”.

Assam needs to ramp up coal production: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assamchief ministerHimanta Biswa Sarma said that coal production in the state needs to ne ramped up, which so far has been miniscule in comparison with the huge untapped reserves.

Odisha govt nod to four investment projects worth 1637 crore

As many as four proposals worth Rs 1637 crore in various sectors received the State Government nod. They are expected to generate EMPLOYMENT opportunities for around 1,116 people.

With the state government recently announcing incentives to set up Oxygen Plants and oxygen cylinder manufacturing units,Shyam Metalicsand Energy Limited has announced to set up an oxygen cylinder manufacturing plant with capacity of 10,80,000 cylinders per annum. The unit to be set up in Rengali industrial estate in Sambalpur district at an investment of Rs 55 crore.

The state approved another proposal from Shyam Metalics to set up a RAILWAY wagon manufacturing plant having capacity of 1,500 wagons per annum atHirakudin Sambalpur district. The company plans to invest Rs 382 crore to set up the unit.

Proposal for a 50 MW solar power generation plant by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited at an investment of Rs 254.71 crore in Boudh district received the government nod.

Tamil Nadus Chedi Putta sari in line for GI recognition

Nadus famed Chedi Putta handloomsari, done on artificial silk and Cotton mix fabric, is likely to get the Geographical Indications (GI) tag, as a group of weavers association has approached the GI registry for the recognition.

Chedi means plant in Tamil and Putta means border and pallu (edge of the saree), and this is a traditional handloom sari weaved in Veeravanallur and the neighboring towns like Pudukkudi, Karukurichi and Vellanguli in Ambasamudram taluk of Tirunelveli district, according to intellectual property right (IPR) attorney and GI agent P Sanjai Gandhi.

Tamil Nadu has so far obtained GI tag for about 40 handicraft and agricultural products, of which 25 have been got by Sanjai Gandhi on behalf of various government departments and associations of artisans. Some of the important products that now enjoy the GI tag are Kancheepuram silk saris, Thanjavur veenai, Srivilliputhur milk kova, Dindigul lock, Madurai Chungudi sari and Salem white silk veshti.

Kerala: Project plans worth Rs 2,500 crore for 100 days

Chief ministerPinarayi Vijayanannounced a100-day programmeof the government, in which various projects and initiatives will be launched and completed by various departments from June 11 to September 19.

He said that just like during the first wave of the pandemic, it has become imperative to launch such a programme to boost the economic Growth of the state. The programme aims at taking forward all the achievements made in the Health, Education and social security sectors, and launching policies to create more EMPLOYMENT opportunities.

The 100-day programme includes projects worth Rs 2,464,92 crore that will be implemented through the public works department,rebuild Kerala initiative(RKI) and Kerala Investment fund board (KIIFB). The blueprint for a major programme to provide jobs to 20 lakh educated youth, through K-Disc, will be completed. In the next 100 days, 77,350 job opportunities will be created under various departments, directly and indirectly, he said.

Yediyurappa to form a committee to decide on all major projects undertaken by government

Having overcome a round of dissidence within his government to establish that he will remain in his chairKarnatakachief ministerB S Yediyurappa(BSY), is working on measures to ensure such disruptions do not crop up again during his tenure and to improve the image of his government that has taken hit with the recent dissident activities.

A cabinet reshuffle is also being planned, in coordination with the central party Leadership, even though the exercise may come up only after a month or more, once the governments priority to deal with the pandemic situation in the state is taken care of.

Telangana ups share in Indias GDP to 5%

Hit by Covid woes, Telanganas gross state domestic product (GSDP) dipped 1.29% (at constant price of 2011-12) to Rs 9.78 lakh crore during 2020-21. However, the share ofTelanganain the nationalGDPincreased by 26 basis points to 5% in 2020-21 as against 4.74% in 2019-20.

The Growth rate fell 1.26% at constant prices (2011-12) due to Covid pandemic but is significantly better than Indias projected GDP contraction at 8%, said IT and industries minister KT Rama Rao while launching the industries and commerce departments annual report.

He pointed out that in 2020-21, Telanganas economy benefited from Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and allied sectors, which grew by 21% as compared to 3% growth at the national level.

The Industrial Sector growth, including the mining sector, contracted by 5.6% in the state as against 8.2% contraction at national level and the Services-sector”>services sector too contracted nearly 5% in 2020-21 as compared to a national contraction of 8.1%, the report said.

Andhra to make ‘English medium’ compulsory in all degree colleges from next session

he Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to make ‘English medium’ compulsory across all government, private aided and unaided degree colleges across state from the academic year 2021-22.
As per the ‘s release, the Department of Higher Education of Andhra Pradesh “strongly feels” that the introduction of English medium education at the undergraduate (UG) level would enhance the career prospects of graduates.

According to the findings in India Skills Report of 2019, English figured among the top three skills, along with Learning agility and adaptability, that employers look for in India. Out of over 2.62 Lakh students who have taken admissions into degree colleges across the state, only 65,981 students are admitted into Telugu medium background during 2020-21. Out of 65981 Telugu medium students, 24007, 16925 and 24960 have enrolled themselves in BA, B.com and BSc courses respectively.

The state government cited a 2016 report of Cambridge University titled ‘Findings of English at Work: Global analysis of language skills in workplace’ which highlights that about 90 per cent of employers look for in India say that English language skills are important for their organization.

The government noted the language skill will help the students in the further studies as well as in finding EMPLOYMENT in the future.

In order to facilitate a smooth transition, the Department of Higher Education has also introduced life skill courses like Personality development and Leadership and Human Values and Professional Ethics. Every student should mandatorily select at least one life skill course in the first two semesters and two in third.

Goa provides aid to only 50% of persons with disabilities: Report

Nearly 50% of persons with disabilities in Goa have not received any aid or help from the , a report titled, Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) in India – A Statistical Profile: 2021 has revealed.

Among disabled persons Goa has the second highest Literacy rate at 70% the report said. As per the Census Of India 2011, Goas divyangjan Population stands at 33,012 persons making it 2% of the total state population.

As per the report, 49% of persons with disabilities received aid or help from the state government while 0.9 per cent received aid or help from organisations other than the government. From the above 49%, 54% is rural and 46% urban.

The report further stated that the highest Percentage of disabled children (5-19 years) currently in educational institutions has been reported from Goa and Kerala, at 73%, followed by Maharashtra and Lakshadweep at 70%.

Among the state and Union territories, the highest literacy rate among disabled persons is in Kerala 71%, followed by Goa at 70%. The lowest is Arunachal Pradesh at 39%, followed by Rajasthan at 40%, the report stated.

16% of countrys forest fire alerts in Maharashtra alone

Of the over 3.86 lakh fire alerts issued nationally by theForest Survey of India(FSI) based on satellite data, Maharashtra recorded 60,851 alerts, which comes to 16% of the totalforest fireincidents in the country this year.

As per FSI data, there were record number of fires between January and May as compared to the last two years. Most of these fires reported in April and May were man-made and ignited for mahua and tendu leaves collection.

As per rules, if forest fires occur in the area having tendu units then chief conservator (CCF) or deputy conservator (DyCF) is empowered to cancel these units, but despite so many incidents not a single tendu unit has been cancelled in the state. Take for example Bramhapuri division in Chandrapur circle, which reported 4,520 fire alerts, but there was no action against any field staff nor any tendu unit was cancelled.
