Assam gets approval for eighth medical college


The number of medical colleges in Assam has gone up to eight with a new one in Lakhimpur town in northern part of the state getting approval from the National Medical Commission to start classes for the ongoing session.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and said, with the new medical college in Lakhimpur, the number of MBBS seats in the state has risen to 1,100.

Sex change surgeries on rise in Kerala, reveals data

More sex reassignmentsurgeries(SRS) in the state are performed for male-to-female transition than for female-to-male transition, according to data from the social justice department on the number oftransgenderpeople who received financial assistance after the surgeries. The data also show that the number of such surgeries has been rising over the years.
While only 19 transgender people, including 11 trans women, received the assistance in 2018-19, the number of beneficiaries rose to 83, including 41 trans women, in 2021-22 so far. Of the total of 191 transgender people who received the assistance from 2018, 127 are trans women and 64, trans men.

The department gives a reimbursement of Rs 2.5 lakh for trans women and Rs 5 lakh for trans men after the surgery. Those in the transgender community said the number of people going for female-to-male transition is fewer due to the surgical complexities involved and fear of rejection from family and abuse on the streets.

Employment linked policy for industries in the state: CM Basavaraj Bommai

Chief ministerBasavaraj Bommai said the government was providing impetus to two key pieces of industrial policies to encourage the employability in the state and also bring more investments toKarnataka.

Inaugurating theUdhyami Aagu, Udyama Needu (Become an entrepreneur, provide employment) workshop organised by the industries department in Bengaluru, CM Bommai said the biggest challenge for the state is to ensure that there are more avenues for employment in the state.

The government has already rolled out an engineering R&D policy and is expected to build upon it for a comprehensive R&D policy.

Bommai said the government was striving towards bringing a more investor friendly environment in the state and that the future entrepreneurs should look at success stories of local business tycoons to draw inspiration.

Mobile Based E-Voting System To Be Tested By Telangana

Telangana State Election Commission has decided to have a dry run of a “Mobile-Based e-voting system”.

Highlights

The requirement to conduct Polls amidst of pandemic has to lead the government to initiate this process.

This will help the voters to vote from the comfort of their homes.

This Mobile Based E-Voting will be held in the Khammam district of Telangana on 20 October.

This will be the first time for India to have a Mobile based e-voting process.

The Voters have to register themselves between 8 October to 18 October.

The company implementing this is the technologies wing of the IT Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) department of the Telangana government and technical development by the ‘Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC)’.

This smartphone application follows a minimalist design approach, supporting both English and Telugu languages.

The system can’t be misused because it binds a tool ID and number to a particular citizen registration process. Only that device will be used during voting.

A mobile-based e-voting system will make use of Artificial Intelligence for a three-factor authentication of the valid voter.

Blockchain (Distributed Ledger) technology has been used to secure de-identified and encrypted votes to maintain them as immutable records.

AP CM launches Sri Venkateswara Bhakti channels in Hindi and Kannada

Tourism circuit from Panaji to Bondla on cards, says Goa CM Pramod Sawant

Chief minister PramodSawantsaid said that an internaltourismcircuit would be developed fromPanajitoBondlawildlife sanctuary via theMayemlake andArvalem. He said that this would be done under the Union governments Swadesh Darshan Scheme.

Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) chairman Dayanand Sopte said that all the formalities related to thecircuithave been completed, and that soon, a tender would be floated to invite bidders to take up the projects.

The chief minister said that the state government also has plans to restore the Sakhali fort to hold small open-air functions. Sawant said that due to Covid, the state could not get bidders to take up its restoration, but that the government would soon float the tender. He also said that the state will spend around Rs 4 crore to develop the fort.

Pune zilla parishad to set up 5 STPs along Bhima river; project to cost Rs 30 crore

The zilla parishads water and sanitation department has proposed setting up of sewage treatment plants (STP) at five locations along theBhima riverstretch to check pollution in the water body.

The STPs will come up atKoregaon Bhima, Perne in Haveli, Rahu and Mandavgun Pharata in Shirur and Daund tehsils, respectively, and Bhigwan inIndapurtehsil. We have asked people to give suggestions on the project, before sending the proposal to the state government for budgetary sanction, said a senior ZP official. A senior official from theMaharashtra Pollution Control Board, said, Industrial effluents and sewage from housing societies are released in the allied rivers of the Bhima. So, the STPs on these rivers are necessary.

The state government plans to make Bhima river pollution-free. The river resembles the shape of the moon in the town and devotees come to take a holy dip in the river before going for the darshan of Lord Vitthal and Rukmini at Pandharpur temple.

Urdu to be taught in Haryana soon: Khattar

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar announced that a plan is being formulated to teachUrdulanguage in the state.

The CM said this during a direct dialogue with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Morcha. During the meeting, national vice-president ofBJP Minority Morcha, Zakir Hussain, state president of Haryana BJP Minority Morcha, Naseem Ahmed and OSD to chief minister, Bhupeshwar Dayal were present.

On the demand of Minority Morcha, CM Khattar announced five community centres in Muslim-dominated areas. For this, he asked the members to select five places and submit the list. The CM said Gram Darshan portal will address development-related problems in villages. Through this portal, the complainant can directly reach the district administration to raise any issue related to street, drains and other problems of the villages, he said. The government will also set up Nagar Darshan Portal on the same lines, which will cater to the development problems of the urban area, he added.
