Mission to ensure sustainablesanitation in all villages at critical stage in Tamil Nadu

Two official surveys have thrown up different findings on the prevalence of open defecation in Nadu.

Though the reference periods are different for the surveys,the gap is only one year. Both – pre-baseline (PBS) Tamil Nadu Household Panel Survey (TNHPS) 2018-19 and the National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey (NARSS) 2019-20 – relate to the pre-COVD-19 pandemic years. The findings of the former, commissioned by the State Government, were made public only a few days ago, while those of the NARSS were given out as part of the replies in the Lok Sabha during March 2021 and February 2022.

Carried out at the initiative of the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation at the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, the national survey found almost 95% of villages in Tamil Nadu sustaining the status of open defecation free (ODF). According to the Tamil Nadu survey, 91.9% of the rural Population, which did not have toilets within the premises, practised open defecation.

Kerala start-up to partner with Gujarat to set up floating solar power plants

Vatsaa Energy Private Limited (VEPL), a start-up in Wayanad, is partnering with Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) to set up floating solar power Plants in that State.

The company began as a campus start-up at the Wayanad Government Engineering College in 2014, and it established Indias first on-grid floating solar power plant for Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) in Banasura Sagar Dam. NGT fines Karnataka government Rs 2,900 crore for lapses in waste management

Focus on promotion of MSMEs as they generate employment, CM tells officials

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the Industries Department to accord top priority to the promotion of MSMEs which provide large-scale EMPLOYMENT, while taking steps to ensure that the industrial units already approved by the State Promotion Board (SIPB) began work at the earliest.

At a review meeting on industries, Ports, industrial corridors, fishing harbours and basic Infrastructure at his camp office near here on Monday, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy ordered a special wing comprising the Chief Secretary and officials from the CMO (Chief Ministers Office) to be set up to extend support to the industrial units for which permissions were given by the SIPB, thereby ensuring all such units got the requisite clearances in the stipulated timelines.

Maharashtra govt submits 25 ropeway proposals to Centre for nod

The has sent about 25 ropeway proposals, including one at Sinhagad fort, to the central government in its bid to push for more such projects acrossMaharashtra, especially Pune, Mumbai, Satara, Raigad, Nashik, Nanded, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.

The proposals were sent last month under the Centre’s National Ropeways Development Programme, named ‘Parvatmala’. Once cleared, the central government would bear the execution cost of the projects, while the state government would provide the land, a senior official from the state public works department (PWD) said.
