Manipurs Kakching district among 75 digital banking units inaugurated by PM

CM NBirenSingh congratulated the authorities ofState Bank of Indiaand people ofKakchingafter the district was included in the 75 digital Banking units across 75 districts, dedicated to the nation by P M Narendra Modi on Sunday.

Kakching was included in the 75 districts for achieving banking digitisation in October 2020.

Banks are now providing loans to various farmers, entrepreneurs and other individuals without hesitation, to enlarge their businesses and improve earnings, he said, while appreciating the PM for his far-sighted vision to ensure welfare of people.

50K school students to be trained on CPR

Tamil Nadu govt taking credit for Centres schemes: Minister

Union minister of state for tribal welfare and jal shaktiBishweswar Tuduon Wednesday said the was renaming the Union governments schemes and projects and implementing them as its own.

The minister said the Union Government had allotted 1,677 crore to the state exclusively for the Jal Jeevan scheme between 2019 and 2022. Similarly, 4,532 crore was allocated forSwachh Bharatmission, 44 crore for Irrigation“>Drip Irrigation scheme and 21.6 crore for national hydrology project. In total, 6,281 crore was allotted to the state in the past three years. However, the state government failed to allot its share at the right time, delaying the projects.

State Biodiversity Board announces Haritha Gramam project to propagate local plant varieties and conserve endangered species

At a time when rapid Urbanisation and other forms of human activities are posing a threat to plant , the Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB) is making an effort to conserve and popularise locally important as well as endangered species with help from local bodies.

The board has announced Haritha Gramam (Village Forest), a project designed for decentralised Biodiversity conservation which will be implemented through the biodiversity management committees (BMC) of the local bodies.

As the name suggests, the aim is to create tiny ‘forests’ in public land and school compounds by planting fruit trees. Additionally, these green lungs will feature endangered plant species from the Kerala part of the biodiversity-rich Western Ghats region, KSBB said.

Each ‘Haritha Gramam’ should cover at least 10 cents of land. Only Plants/trees found locally and species that are considered threatened in Kerala should be selected for planting. The village forests will be created and managed with the help of the Kudumbashree units and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural EMPLOYMENT Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) workers.

Karnataka: Bescom installs solar panels on 147 govt buildings

Bangalore Electricity Supply Company(Bescom) has installed solar panels on the rooftops of 147 government buildings, including schools, bus depots and courts. However, it has fallen short in achieving the stipulated target.

The state-run power agency set up solar panels in 73 locations across the state, enabling government institutions to run on sustainable power and save . A total of Rs 60 crore has been spent on the Solar Rooftop Photovoltaic Project.
The project was conceptualised in 2015 under an initiative of the 13th Finance Commission and Rs 63 crore was set aside for it. The target set for installation was 10.2MW, but the authorities only managed to set up solar panels of 8.4MW capacity. Furthermore, only 5.4MW is being generated. Bescom sources said they have been unable to meet the target because of lack of interest from government agencies.

The project was tendered in 2019, awarded in 2020, and executed in one year. Various government bodies were asked to apply to get solar panels commissioned, after which Bescom through an outsourced agency carried out a feasibility study of the rooftops of the buildings for selection.

AP to roll out smart electricity meters

The power utilities ofAndhra Pradeshare gearing up to roll out a smart electricity meter project. The Union Government has decided to replace around 25 crore conventional meters with smart meters across the country under theSmart Meter National Programme(SMNP).

proposals for smart metering and loss reduction works in all the five circles of Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (EPDCL) have been recently submitted to the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission for approval. While the smart metering may cost about 950 crore in the EPDCL limits, the distribution loss reduction works were estimated at 2,578 crore.

The smart meters will help address several issues of the consumers ranging from wrong billing and reconnections to online monitoring of meter reading. It also helps power utilities in reducing aggregate, technical and commercial (ATC) losses, power theft, and distribution losses. Smart meters are also used for recording the consumption of electricity and measuring voltage levels. While traditional meters measure the power consumption of a Home or business, smart meters live up to their name, and transmit the same information in every 15 minutes or hourly to utility providers.

A smart meter can help in improving the Average revenue from meters alongside a host of other advantages like better demand side management, better demand forecasting, and value-added Services like analytics and easier implementation of time-of-day tariffs.

Linked to National Education Policy, research foundation in Goa soon

The state cabinet approved a bill to establish aGoa state research foundation.
The bill, which will be introduced in the current monsoon session, will have a financial implication of over Rs 25 crore.

The aim of the foundation is to promote a culture of research and innovation in Goa.

In 2020, the Union Education ministry notified theNational Education Policy, (NEP) 2020, which focuses on research, innovation and linkage, along with other aspects.

The National Education Policy, states that research not only provides solutions to societal problems but also contributes to the spiritual, intellectual and creative upliftment of the country, and is therefore extremely important for the progress and enlightenment of any state or nation.

Kharif sowing in Maharashtra crosses 100%

Kharifsowing in the state has crossed 100%. The kharif sowing area is 142.8 lakh hectares and sowing has taken place on 143 lakh hectares.

Foodgrainshave been sown on 49.8 lakh hectares, oilseeds on 51 lakh hectares and on 42.2 lakh hectares. The sowing has been aided by a plentiful monsoon. This year, the state experienced showers which was 115% of the Average rain. It is currently preparing for the sowing of the rabi, or winter crop.
