Tripura govt launches education channel for school students

Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb launched a 24×7 Education channel, which will offer lessons to school students, in line with the NCERT syllabus, and help them “make up for the lost Learning time” amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Education minister Ratan Lal Nath, on his part, said, his department launched an innovative scheme — Notun Disha (new direction) which is aimed at assessing and boosting the academic prowess of elementary school students, but the pandemic has brought everything to a halt.

Book highlights legacy of Assamese polymath Sankaradeva

A new book seeks to highlight the uniqueness of Assam’s medieval polymath Srimanta Sankaradeva’s multifaceted contributions in various fields and how he shaped the sociocultural fabric of the state.

These articles deal with the Vaishnavite saint’s contributions, which are quite relevant for knowing Assam’s remarkable contributions in the spiritual and literary Ecosystems.

Though many diverse issues mentioned in the book apparently seem not to be linked together, they actually are interlinked as Sankaradeva worked in all these areas, according to the author.

The diverse aspects also reflect on the lives and culture of Assam, the characteristic contributions of its people as shaped by Srimanta Sankaradeva. Study of the contributions of Srimanta Sankaradeva gives us a holistic understanding about the Assamese Society,” the book says.

It features the institutions created by Sankaradeva and also does comparative studies. Matters like aesthetics, feminism, Philosophy, etc, as seen by Sankaradeva, are covered in the analyses.

Sankaradeva was a pioneer in the resurgence movement of the Indian regional languages and can be considered the first playwright in all the modern Indian languages.

Odishas 26 out of 30 districts in Covid red zone

Covidinfection continues to rise inOdishawith 26 of the 30 districts reporting over 1,000 active positive cases, categorized as red zone, after the state registered 11,732 cases from 56,842 samples tested in the past 24 hours, a test positivity rate (TPR) of 20.63%. Only Deogarh, Malkangiri, Gajapati andKandhamaldistricts have now less than 1,000 active cases.

The Average positivity rate continues to hover between 20% and 24% for the past one week, though in some western Odisha districts, where the TPR had soared to 50%-70%, witnessed a decline.

Kerala government includes foreign job & study aspirants in priority list of Covid vaccination

TheKerala governmenthas included those who are going abroad for studies and EMPLOYMENT purpose, in the prioritised group under the 18-45 years age category for the Covid-19 vaccination.

An immediate decision has been taken in this regard as many foreign countries have madevaccination compulsoryfor those arriving there for study and job purposes,HealthMinister Veena George said.

Besides them, 10 othercategorieswere also included in the prioritised group and an order was issued for the same, she said. Field staff of various government departments including food and civil supplies, postal, social , Women and Child Development, Fisheries and teachers assigned for the valuation ofSSLC, Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary examinations were among those newly added to the prioritised group.
As many as 32 categories of people belonging to the age group were earlier included in the priority category after considering them as frontline fighters against Covid-19.

Karnataka govt clears projects worth Rs 13k cr amid pandemic

The state high level clearance committee (SHLCC), headed by chief minister BS Yediyurappa, on Wednesday cleared projects worth Rs 13,175 crore amid the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prominent among the cleared projects include a major in the production of liquid Oxygen by Jindal Steel Works (JSW).

At a time when JSW is the single largest source of medical oxygen in the state, close to 440 MT at full capacity, an added facility is likely to benefit Karnataka in the long run and add to the capacity of the steel manufacturing major.

The project, sub-leased fromJSW Steel Ltd, will be executed by a subsidiary of its under the name of JSW Techno Projects Management limited at a cost of Rs 892 crore inTorangallu,Ballari.

Another major project which recieved clearance from the SHLCC was that of a single unit complex ofIndian Oil Corporationlimited (Iocl) in Chitradurga for storage and dispatch of petroleum on a 130 acre land parcel.

While cost of Vaccines have led to a political war of words, a look at the statesvaccineadministration data shows that number of vaccinations have gone up in the last three days, touching the two-lakh-mark.Telanganais now among the top five states in the country for vaccine administration.

Close to 35 lakh doses of Covishield doses have been administered while a little over 5.8 lakh Covaxin doses have been given. At present, the vaccination rate in the state stands at 6,000 per million a day. Data shows that so far just over five lakh doses of the over 40 lakh administered have been second doses of the vaccine.

Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy pays Rs 10,000 each to over 1 lakh fishermen families

Chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy disbursed Rs 119.88 crore into the accounts of 1,19,875 fishermen families, crediting Rs 10,000 each for the third consecutive year under the YSR Matsyakara Bharosa compensating the off-season ban on marine fishing.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that the programme, benefiting as many as 1,19,875 families, was taken up for the uplift of fishermen who were struggling for livelihood during the lean period from April to June every year. The scheme was initiated in 2019 increasing the financial assistance from Rs 4,000 to Rs 10,000, and the had spent around Rs 332 crore alone on this scheme.

With the welfare of fishermen being the priority, the chief minister said the government had increased the fuel subsidy from Rs 6 to Rs 9 per liter which can be redeemed instantly at 100 recognised petrol bunks. The government has also provided power at a subsidised cost of Rs 1.50 per unit to the aqua farmers despite being burdened with Rs 780 crore annually.

In case of an accidental death, the state government has enhanced the ex gratia from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh to support the family of the deceased and so far, 67 fishermen families have been provided with an assistance of Rs 6.7 crore. The chief minister said the previous government had completely neglected the welfare of fishermen and aquaculture in the state.

In order to support aqua farmers, the state government is setting up 100 aqua hubs at a cost of Rs 332.9 crores, where each hub will have 120 retail shops to sell their produce directly. Currently in phase one, 25 aqua hubs are being set up across the state and works on these are in progress.

Cabinet nod for 3-option scheme to build toilets

The statecabinet approved theschemefor supply and installation of individual household bio-digestertoiletsin the state.

The scheme offers beneficiaries three to choose from to build a toilet bio-digester-based twin leach pits as designed by Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, bio-digester-based latrines as provided by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) or construct a toilet on their own with financial assistance of up to Rs 40,000 from the GWMC.
A cabinet note said that the state cabinet has approved the construction of all 21,050 toilets, including 1,028 community sanitary complexes and 20,022 individual house hold latrines (IHHL).

The scheme shall be applicable to only those beneficiaries who have already submitted their applications for the IHHL scheme to the DMA.
