University of Hyderabad gets Rs 6 crore for research on tomato

University of Hyderabad(UoH) has received funding of Rs 6 crore from the department of Biotechnology (DBT) to take up research on plant metabolomics (study of small Molecules) and proteomics (study of proteins) over a period of four years at Repository ofTomato Genomics Resources(RTGR).

Established in 2010, RTGR conducts advanced scientific research in the frontier areas of genomics, proteomics and metabolomics oftomatoin order to improve the Nutrition and shelf-life of tomatoes. Given its scientific contributions, DBT recognised RTGR as a

centre of excellence for genome engineering in tomato.

Andhra Pradesh cities continue winning streak in Swachh 2021 survey

Major cities ofAndhra Pradesh-Vijayawada,Tirupatiand Visakhapatnam – continued their winning streak in Swachh Survekshan 2021, the results of which were released.

Vijayawada emerged as the thirdcleanest cityin the country, while Vizag retained its ninth position from last year’s survey in the category of cities with more than 10 lakh Population.

Tirupati stood third place in the category of cities with a population of one to 10 lakh population. Other major cities that made their mark in the same category were Rajahmundry (41st rank), Kurnool (70), Kakinada (103) and Nellore (107).

In overall rankings (cities with more than one lakh population), Vijayawada occupied third place, Tirupati seventh place and Vizag 18th rank. These cities also got several individual Awards.

When it comes to rankings of major states that have more than 100 , Andhra Pradesh stood fifth. Visakhapatnam district was the ninth cleanest district as per the survey, while Krishna was ranked 22nd in the same category.

Aurangabad city moves up to 22nd position

The historic city ofAurangabadhas improved its ranking to 22ndpositionin the annualcleanliness surveyamong cities with more than 10 lakh Population.
Last year, the city was ranked 26th in the country and 8th at the state level. The city is now ranked 6th in the state in the survey, whose results were released by the ministry of housing and urban

affairs.

Notably, the Aurangabad has moved past local civic bodies of Nagpur, Kalyan Dombivli, Vasai Virar and Mumbai in the ranking. Aurangabad secured 3,765 points from total 6,000, said an official release.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that Geographic Information System Laboratories (GIS Labs) are being established in all districts of the state, so that data related to various departments can be collected through satellite.

The monitoring of the projects run by various departments can be done through satellite and the data related to all the departments will be available in these labs, the Chief Minister said after inaugurating the GIS Lab set up by Haryana Space Application Centre (HARSAC) in 11 districts of the state through a virtual meeting.

The Chief Minister also interacted with the Cabinet Ministers, public representatives and officials of the state present in these 11 districts.

He said that data would be collected and preserved using satellite images in these labs which are being built by HARSAC. After this, complete details of the data received such as name of the property owner, contact number, area of the property, status of the property related to residential or commercial area will be recorded. Also, the location of the property and the public facilities available in the area will also be easily accessible, he said.

Not only this, authorized and unauthorized colonies can be easily identified through satellite as well. Even while buying a property, people will know whether that property is in the authorized area or not, the Chief Minister said.

He also said that data related to all departments including Revenue, Irrigation, , Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Development and Panchayat, Police and Education Department will be collected in the lab.

The data of all the departments will be available online in the GIS Lab and the common man will be able to access the information easily, he added.

The Punjab Government on Monday launched Punjab Registered Usari Kirti Sewawan mobile application for the States registered construction workers.

The construction workers can register themselves through this App and take benefits of various welfare schemes such as Scholarship scheme, Shagun scheme, pension scheme, and ex-gratia after

submitting the applications on this app and approval of the same, said States Labour Minister Sangat Singh Gilzian, while launching the app, along with Special Chief Secretary Ravneet Kaur and Labour Commissioner Parveen Kumar Thind.

Every registered beneficiary can avail the benefits of various welfare schemes run by Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for himself and his family by applying through the App.

15 years on, Himachal Pradesh moves towards new hydro power policy

After 15 years,Himachal Pradeshis going to change its policy to address fresh challenges in hydro, Biomass and solar power development. The state has prepared adraft energy policy 2021that aims to promote green, clean and sustainable generation of energy to enable quick harnessing of full potential of Himachal Pradesh. It also aims to harness and commission 10,000 MW of hydro energy by 2030 to have an operational capacity of 20,948 MW beside upgrading the existing run ofriver hydro plantsforpumped storage Plants/hybrid power plants.

According to officials, the hydro power policy 2006 of the state has served its objectives well and over the last 15 years, there has been a paradigm shift in energy scenario of the country. The country is moving towards RENEWABLE ENERGY that is total green energy as per the Paris Agreement signed in December 2015. The solar and wind power share is increasing at a faster rate than the hydro. Hydro power along with hybrid, battery and pumped storages and hydrogen energy is going to be the focus areas in coming years.

Himachal Pradesh is blessed with hydro potential of 24,587 MW distributed over five river basins, out of which 10,948 MW has been harnessed (as on October 31 this year) and out of 13,639 MW, maximum potential will be harnessed by 2030.

The principal objectives of draft policy aims to promote green and clean and sustainable generation of energy to enable quick harnessing of full potential of Himachal Pradesh. It aims to expedite development of hydro-electric projects by adopting a four pronged strategy by way of participation of state, joint, central and private sectors.
Under new policy, it has been proposed to promote storage or pondage, including pumped storage power plants/combined cycle power plants, battery storage and other emerging technologies such as Hydrogen storage, capable of quick ramp up and ramp down and store energy with higher efficiency for long duration.

Policy aims to develop adequate and efficient transmission Network in the state and to evolve a dynamic and robust electricity

Infrastructure for better consumer Services. It also proposes to revitalize state utility for distribution of power and to establish and promote a power trading entity in the state.

Uttarakhand police are among the lowest scoring states in the country with 27th rank and 5.83 scores in the category of perception score of accountability as per the Smart Policing Index survey conducted by the Indian Police Foundation (IPF).

The Uttarakhand Police also features in the 10 lowest ranking states under the ‘Integrity and Corruption-free service’ category with 19th position in the country. The state police have also scored Average points in the categories of ‘public trust in the police’ and ‘fair, unbiased and lawful policing’- 6.83 and 6.33 scores with 14th and 16th ranks respectively. Uttarakhand police achieved an overall rank of 15th in this national survey which was held from July 1 to September 15 and included a

total of 29 states and union territories.

However the state police have also made it to the list of top 10 states in three categories- perception score of technology adoption, accessibility and police sensitivity with 6.98 scores, 7.35 scores and 7.0 scores respectively.

According to the survey report released by IPF, Uttarakhand police ranked 27 in category of ‘perception score of accountability’ of police followed by Nagaland and Uttar Pradesh. Bihar Police which has lowest overall index score in country also have a higher ranking than Uttarakhand police under this category.

Due to the support extended by the Central government, Uttar Pradesh is turning into a medical hub. There was a time when the state was lacking in health facilities, but now all the 75 districts in the state are equipped with ICU beds, 1.80 lakh emergency beds, and 518 oxygen plants becoming operational, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said.

Highlighting the augmented Health Services in the state, the CM said that facilities like ventilators have also been made available in all the districts. As many as 33 medical colleges are being built, of which nine have become operational.

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and Jal Shakti, Prahlad Singh Patel said Jharkhand has ample potential for mini food parks, if the State Government submits a proposal for setting up mini food parks in State, the Ministry will look into this.

The Union Minister, who was in the State Capital, said this after Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Poddar submitted a proposal for setting up a mini food park in Jharkhand. Poddar in his letter has highlighted that the Mega Food Park established in Ranchi, has been closed. The loan account of its promoters has become NPA. Therefore, the Government should start the process afresh in Jharkhand under the Kisan Sampada Yojana for setting up mini food parks which can be financed from the Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture Fund announced by the Prime Minister.

The Union Minister said the Government of India is now encouraging Mini Food Parks instead of , which has immense potential in Jharkhand. He said that if they get proposals related to the establishment of mini food parks from Jharkhand, they will be given immediate approval and incentives as per the prescribed provisions.
