Bihar: Campaign launched to minimise dropouts in schools

Theeducationdepartment launched a fortnight-long state-level “Praveshotsava” (enrolment festival) in a big way. The campaign is aimed at ensuring 100% enrolment of boys and girls passing Class VIII examination into Class IX of their respective schools.

The minister said Education department officials would accompany the education rath and there would also be some cultural artists who will attract students towards schools by motivating their guardians.

to the officials to organise the enrolment festival sincerely from July to 15 so that not a single student who has passed Class VIII examination this year is dropped.

Tourism police soon to be constituted in MP

After the union tourism ministrys directive of setting up of Tourist Police in all state and union territories in places with high tourist footfalls, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra has said that the government is going to constitute ‘Tourism Police’. It will be deployed at tourist places. They will take special care of the safety and convenience of the tourists.

He said that preference will be given in recruitment to such people, who have knowledge of many languages and dialects. Umesh Mishra appointed as new DGP of Rajasthan

An officer of the 1989 batch of IPS, Mishra is currently posted as DG (Intelligence). As per the order issued by the department of personnel (DoP), he will take over the charge of DGP

from ML Lather upon the latter’s retirement on November 3.

Assam, which has witnessed rainfall deficit of over 20% for the sixth time since 2010, is among the five states that are highly vulnerable to extreme Climate events such as floods, droughts and , according to a new study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW).

The study, “Mapping India’s Climate Vulnerability – A District-Level Assessment” done by Delhi-based think-tank CEEW, has faulted unsustainable landscape, lack of Infrastructure planning and human-induced microclimate change as the key drivers of this high vulnerability.

The northeastern zone, including Assam, Manipur, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh, is only highly exposed to extreme flood events.Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Karbi Anglong, Hailakandi, Tinsukia and Dhemaji districts are also the flood hotspots in India.

A surge in extreme events has been observed across India after 2005. Our sensitivity analysis shows that this is primarily triggered by landscape disruptions. Various studies have confirmed the impact of landscape changes on the incidence of extreme events (UNEP 2009),” the study said.
