Chhattisgarhs Karma, Sikkims Tamangshelo adjudged best

Karma dance of Chhattisgarh Surguja region was adjudged the best in the dance category while Sikkims Tamangshelo was conferred the first prize in marriage ceremony and other dance category.

In the Harvest category, Dhengsa of Odisha was adjudged second and Gaddi of Himachal Pradesh the third.

In marriage and other function category, Odisha got the second prize and Jharkhand the third.

A glimpse of the tribal milieu and its connection with nature can be seen in the Karma dance.

The dance is performed in memory of King Karam Sen and is one of the most popular dance forms of Chhattisgarh.

The traditional attire and beautiful rural ornaments of the vibrant folk artists of Chhattisgarhi were

seen in the performance.

Highlights

Congresswoman Carolyn B Maloney of New York has introduced legislation to make Diwali a national holiday in the United States.

The Deepavali Day Act was introduced in the House of Representatives by the member.

A number of congressmen, including Indian-American Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi, support the historic measure.

Meanwhile, Krishnamoorthi sponsored a resolution in the US Congress to recognize the festival of lights’ religious and historical significance.

The campaign will run from November 8 to November 14, 2021.

The Logistics Ease Across Different States 2021 Index was recently published by Ministry of Commerce & Industry. This is the third edition of Index.

In the index, Gujarat, Haryana and Punjab were emerged as best performing states with respect to mobility of goods and efficiency oflogisticschain.

Banks told to stop funding states using future revenue

The Centre andRBIhave pulled up banks for lending to entities based on the escrow of the states future revenue streams or using collectorates and courts as security, with the finance ministry seeking an end to the practice as it found that most of the loans were given by Psu banks, including SBI.

Last year, in a Communication to state, the Union finance ministry had stated that pledging of future tax revenues was not in line with Article 266 (1) of theConstitution, which mandates that all taxes and loans should flow into theConsolidated Fundof the state. The letter followed a reference to the Centre that the state government had transferred assets to the AP State Development Corporation (APSDC) to raise funds.

Unorganised sector, MSME absorbed workforce

Unemployment in Bengal soared to 22.1% in June last year but fell sharply after that and remained on a par with, or lower than, the national Average, according to the Center for Monitoring Indian economy (CMIE).

Among other states, unemployment in June 2022 was the highest in Haryana at 30.6%, followed by Rajasthan at 29.8%, Assam at 17.2%, J&K at 17.2%, Bihar at 14% and Jharkhand at 12.2%.

MP recorded the lowest unemployment rate for June, 2022 at 0.5% followed byChhattisgarhat 1.2%, Meghalaya at 2.3%, Gujarat at 3% and Karnataka at 3.7%.

Kerala and Goa mirrored Bengals see-saw unemployment figures for the last two years. For Goa, the rate plunged from 17.9% in June 2021 to 5.5% in June 2022. For Kerala, the rate dropped to 5.3% in June 2022 from 15.8% in June 2021.
