TheKerala assemblyis likely to pass ajoint resolutionexpressing solidarity with the people of Lakshadweep where the recent actions of the islands’ administrator have drawn flak.

MB Rajesh, the newly elected speaker of the state assembly, Chief MinisterPinarayi Vijayanhimself has proposed the resolution in the wake of recent developments in the archipelago.

The first session of the 15th state assembly began with the swearing-in of newly elected MLAs on May 24.

Karnataka high court second in country to livestream proceedings

TheKarnataka became the second HC in the country, after Gujarat, to livestreamproceedings. On trial basis, the hearing in Court Hall No 1 of two PILs challenging the Karwar port expansion project was live streamed on YouTube close to an hour in the afternoon.

Livestreaming of court proceedings has been a long-standing demand of advocates. The matter had reached theSupreme Courtwhich said in 2018 that it is up to the chief justices of respective high courts. Recent comments by new Chief Justice of India NV Ramana that The Supreme Court is actively considering the option has further strengthened the demand.

With lockdowns becoming all too common in the pandemic, the judiciary has started hearing matters through video-conferencing.

Now, Telangana government plans to promote IT in tier-III towns

After creating information technology (IT) hubs in tier-II towns in the state, the government is now contemplating to develop similar in tier-III towns.

If the governments plans work out,new IT towerswould come up in tier-III towns like Ramagundam in Peddapalli district and Wanaparthy district headquarter apart from Nalgonda, atierII town and district headquarters within a year. The IT department had already developedIT towersin Warangal, Khammam and Karimnagar, while the ones at Siddipet, Nizamabad and Mahbubnagar were under construction.

The government has been promoting setting up new IT towers with a purpose to decentralise IT development, which will provide EMPLOYMENT opportunities to locals. Secondly, the present move would also decongest the IT corridor, especially in the western part of the city, and there would not be any infrastructure problem in tier-II and III towns.

NEP guides Andhra Pradeshs early childhood education plans

TheAndhra Pradeshschool Education department is planning to roll out early childhood care and education in a phased manner in Anganwadis, primary and high schools. This would be based on the recommendations made in theNational Education Policy(NEP) 2020.

As part of the programme, pre-primary education would be started in government schools. Under this proposed new model, all the existing Anganwadi Centres will function as YSR Pre Primary Schools with pre-primary (PP1 and PP2) classes. The primary schools in Andhra Pradesh will have preparatory 1st class, class I and class II, and they will be called foundational schools.

In a circular issued by the school education department, director, school education, Chinaveerabhadrudu Vadrevu, asked the regional and district-level officials to follow the guidelines and exercise the possibilities.

It was asked to propose the best mapping of existing schools to transform to the new structure of 5+3+3+4, duly focusing on early childhood care and education and foundational Learning.

Daman and Diu to be dropped from Goa laws, says Pramod Sawant

Chief ministerPramod Sawant said the will only use Goa on its legislations and drop the reference toDaman and Diu. Sawant also said that financially weaker panchayats will be given a grant of Rs 50,000.

Sawant said even though Daman and Diu were separated from Goa 35 years ago in 1987, we use Goa, Daman and Diu in all our laws, land revenue codes and other legislations.

Make your village ‘corona free’, win Rs 50 lakh: Maharashtra government

TheMaharashtragovernment announced a “corona freevillage” contest with an aim to encourage steps to curb the spread ofCovid-19in rural areas of the state.

Chief ministerUddhav Thackerayrecently lauded efforts made by some villages to stem the spread of the viral infection and announced the “My Village Corona Free” initiative.

The “corona free village” contest is part of the initiative announced by the chief minister, stateRural DevelopmentMinisterHasan Mushrifsaid in a statement.

Prizeswill be given to three village panchayats doing good work in Covid-19 management in each revenue division.

The first prize will be of Rs 50 lakh, second of Rs 25 lakh and third of Rs 15 lakh, the minister said.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said that oxygen generator plants will be set up in all 135 community health centres (CHCs) and district hospitals of the state for uninterrupted oxygen supply.

The Chief Minister said this after virtually inaugurating four Oxygen Generator Plants in three government hospitals in Gurugram.These plants have been set up in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

Khattar said that industries have made a commendable contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

In the first wave of Covid-19, there was a shortage of concentrators but soon this shortage was overcome, he said.

Since experts have predicted that in the third expected wave of COVID-19, children are likely to be affected more, therefore the government is making all necessary arrangements well in advance.

Punjab Cabinet approves creation of Malerkotla as 23rd district

The Punjab Cabinet gave formal approval to the creation of Malerkotla as the states 23rd district.

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had announced the creation of a new district of Malerkotla, carving the states Muslim-majority town from Sangrur district.

The cabinet also gave its go-ahead for upgrading Amargarh, which was part of the Malerkotla sub-division, as sub-division or tehsil.

Malerkotla district would now consist of three sub-divisionsMalerkotla, Ahmedgarh and Amargarh.

A total of 192 villages will be included in Malerkotla district.

The cabinet authorised the chief minister to approve the creation of new posts for offices of 12 departments which include Police, rural development and panchayats, social and minorities, Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and farmer welfare, social security and Women and child development, Health, Education (primary and secondary).

A Himachal Pradesh farmer has created an innovative self-pollinating apple variety that does not require long chilling hours to flower and set fruit.

Commercial cultivation of this apple variety has started in the low-lying areas of Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Jammu, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and , and the fruit set has expanded to 23 states and UTs so far.

The apple variety is called HRMN 99.

According to the farmer, growing apples in low chilling conditions is no longer impossible.

His claims were validated by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF), an autonomous body of the Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST).

NIF assessed the variety’s distinctiveness and potential by facilitating molecular and diversity analysis studies as well as fruit quality testing.

NIF also provided financial and technical assistance for the establishment and expansion of the nursery, as well as assistance with the registration of the variety under the Plant Variety Protection and Farmers’ Rights Act of 2001.

This apple variety is larger in size than others, with very soft, sweet, and juicy pulp and striped red over yellow skin colour when mature.

Uttarakhand saw highest rain surplus in May in a decade

Uttarakhandreceived 168% surplus rainfall in May this year, the highest excess in a decade, according to the regional meterological centre.

Thehill statereceived 175.6mm rainfall between May 1 and May 31, against the expected 65.6mm in the month. All 13districtsreceived more than expectedshowersin May, which is the last month in the three-month-long pre monsoon season. TheMetoffice data shows that Champawat, Bageshwar and Udham Singh Nagar district received over 300% more than normal showers, while Almora, Nainital andHaridwarwere lashed by over 200% excess rainfall. State capital Dehradun recorded 173% rain surplus, while Chamoli district received 146% excess rain.

In May 2020, Uttarakhand had witnessed 9% surplus rainfall, while in May 2019 and 2018, the state recorded -58% and -22% rain deficit.
