T-AIMs for data annotation clusters in state, inks MoU with Tika Data

In a bid to position the state as a go-to destination for high quality data annotation Services as part of its thrust on developing an (AI) ecosystem, theTelanganagovernment has inked anMoUwith Bengaluru-basedTika Datafor setting up a data annotation cluster in the state.

As part of this agreement, Tika Data is expected to set up three centres, most likely in Jakranpalle, Armoor and Dichapalle mandals of Nizamabad district, and train and employ over 100 local people. Data annotation is nothing but the categorisation and labelling of data for AI (artificial intelligence) applications. The Growth of the data annotation Industry is driven by the growth of AI/ML based solutions because the quality of the AI/ML model is dependent on the quality of training data, Telangana government said on Thursday while announcing the MoU.

The PARTNERSHIP was the result of a data annotation roundtable conducted by the Telangana governments Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM) initiative that is powered byNasscom.

Hyderabad among top 5 startup hubs in country

Telangana 10th state to withdraw general consent to CBI

has become the tenth state to withdraw general Consent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Its twomonth-old order was cited in court in the wake of the cashfor-MLA scandal in which BJP is demanding an investigation by the central agency.

Dismissing the charges, BJP functionaries moved the Telangana High Court and requested a CBI inquiry. Under Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, general consent of a State Government is necessary for CBI to operate in that state.

Qualcomm strikes biggest SEZ lease deal in Telangana

US-based semiconductors and wireless technology giantQualcommis setting up a mega facility spread over nearly 1.6 million sq ft at a SEZ in Hyderabad. This will be the largest SEZ leasing deal inTelangana. It will also be Qualcomms largest facility in India.

The Qualcomm facility, to be housed over 17 storeys at the Sustain Properties Pvt Ltd SEZ being developed by K Raheja Group at Raidurg, will entail an of Rs 3,904 crore and will create about 8,700 jobs over the next five years, the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) said.

The mega SEZ facility is expected to generate IT Services exports to the tune of Rs 28,658 crore over the next five years, it said.

The project has also received approval from the unit approval committee of VSEZ at a meeting held recently. All SEZs in Telangana fall under VSEZ.

Telangana top in country in number of medical seats/1 lakh population’

tops the country with 19 medical seats per lakh Population, Health minister T Harish Rao has said, attributing it to the TRS (now BRS) government’s persistent push to set up medical colleges since the state was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

As part of united Andhra in 2014, Telangana had only 8.5 medical seats per lakh population, the minister said. Not just this, Telangana now has the second highest number of PG medical seats per lakh population.

When Telangana was formed eight years ago, there were only five medical colleges.Now, there are 17.”There were only 850 MBBS seats in government medical colleges before 2014.Now, the number has gone up to 2,890.

The closest rival is neighbouring Karnataka, which had 17.91 medical seats per lakh population, but with a higher seat number at 10,945. The Percentage-to-seat difference arises as Karnataka’s population is around 6.5 crore while Telangana’s is 3.5 crore.

Telangana: Rs 250 crore released for Dalit Bandhu scheme

State Scheduled Castes Development Corporation released Rs 250 crore to the four mandals located in fourAssemblyconstituencies for implementation ofDalit Bandhuscheme.
The funds were deposited into the bank accounts of the respective district collectors. This was done in tune with the assurance given by chief ministerK Chandrasekhar Raoat the recent district collectors conference that funds would be realised for the implementation of the scheme.

While Rs 100 crore was for implementing theDalitBandhu in Chinthakani mandal of Madhira assembly constituency in Khammam district on a saturation mode, Rs 50 crore each was released for implementing the scheme in Thirmalagiri mandal of Thungaturthy constituency of Suryapet district,Charagondamandal of Atchampet and Kalwakurthy constituencies of Nagarkurnool district and Nizam Sagar mandal of Jukkal constituency in Kamareddy district.

Telangana: 2,000-year-old stone bowl of Satavahana era found

A group of researchers has found a stone bowl belonging to the earlySatavahanaperiod, theTelugukings who ruled a vast area in the south, including the present states of Telangana andAndhra Pradesh.

The bowl with inscriptions in Prakrit written inBrahmialphabets was discovered during an excavation in Banswada town of Kamareddy district. The researchers, who discovered the bowl, dated the ancient utensil to 1st century BCE. The bowl was discovered on a mound adjacent to Adi Basaveswara temple, which is part of Kavi Manavallayya Matham of Bichkunda.

The stone bowl found at Borlam village near Banswada is the latest in a series of artefacts discovered from theManjirariver valley in Telangana. Most of the objects found so far from the valley belonged to the presence of the Satavahana regime.

The Satavahana kings were the first major rulers of the Deccan with trade links to Romans. They are considered as the first Andhra rulers.

Real estate the major driver of Telanganas gross value added growth since 2014

Telanganas gross value added (GVA) through service sector grew at a rate of 1.5 to 2 times between 2014-15 and 2020-21 with real estate a major contributor to this Growth. Real estate, dwellings and professional Services were the main drivers of the services sector, accounting for nearly 35 per cent of its GVA in 2020-21 the state GVAs single-largest sub-sector.

The GVA of real estate sector is expected to reach Rs 1.85 lakh crore in 2020-21, up from Rs 96,912 crore in 2014-15. Since then, the value of GVA increased by roughly Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 crore year-on-year. Lockdowns and slowing down of activities had no effect on service sector growth; Hyderabad plays a significant part in this.

The GVA of trade, repair, hotels and restaurants rose by a factor of two between 2014-15 and 2020-21. This, despite the Covid-19 pandemic. The GVA of this sub-sector is also expected to reach Rs 1.36 lakh crore this year.

According to experts, the states robust GVA in any area particularly the services sector represents a healthy trend. Between 2015-16 and 2020-21, Gross State Value Added (GSVA) which reflects the supply or production side of the economy grew at an annual Average rate of 11.6 per cent in , compared to national average of 7.8 per cent at current prices. Telanganas overall GSVA increased by 2.9 per cent in 2020-21 (PE), outpacing Indias GVA growth of 5.9 per cent.

Finance ministerT Harish Raoon Friday sought 352 crore as integrated goods and services tax (IGST) settlement from the Centre toTelangana.

In a letter toGST councilchairman and Unionfinance ministerNirmala Sitharaman, Harish Rao said 13,944 crore was left unallocated and held in the (CFI) for the fiscal year 2018-19, with Telangana‘s share amounting to 352 crore.

Harish Rao also demanded 50 crore in financial support under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act for each of the 10 undivided districts. “The assistance for 2019-20 is yet to be released. We request the Union Government to release the assistance for 33 districts as new districts were formed after 2014,” he said.

The FM said that it would be better to discuss the problem with Cotton-growing states like Maharashtra and Gujarat and address the concerns to the fitment committee in order to have a fresh perspective.

Goldman Sachs opens new global competence centre in Hyderabad, to hire over 2,500 by 2023

Financial Services giantGoldman Sachsunveiled its new global competence centre (GCC) spread over nearly 1.6 lakh sq ft across three floors in Hyderabads IT hub of Madhapur on Monday and said it plans to hire over 2,500 techies by 2023.

The Hyderabad centre, which became operational remotely in March this year with around 250 techies (including internal relocations from Bengaluru and new hires), is expected to grow to 800 employees by end of 2021, of which about 70% would be new hires, said Gunjan Samtani, head of Goldman Sachs services in India.

Thenew GCC at Hyderabadis part of Goldman Sachs commitment to expand its global centre for engineering and business innovation in India, the US-based biggie said.

The new centre, which was inaugurated by IT & industries minister KT Rama Rao, will include functions like engineering, finance, Human Capital management and support for consumer Banking.
