US based StemCures to set up India’s largest stem cell manufacturing lab in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, which is emerging as the knowledge capital of the worlds life sciences , has grabbed another big-ticket Investment in the sector. US-based StemCures is slated to establish a manufacturing lab in Telangana that will focus on stem cell therapy with the vision to create the largest stem cell manufacturing plant in India. The facility will be set up with the investment potential of around USD 54 million and EMPLOYMENT potential for around 150 people in a couple of phases.

Currently, StemCures is culminating R&D of the stem cell line at Aspire Bionest in University of Hyderabad and is ready to embark on a phase 1 manufacturing lab.

Hyderabad already serves more than 1000 life sciences companies, including the top 10 pharma companies. Four of the top 10 global innovator companies now have a direct presence in Hyderabad through their dedicated centers. These centers drive core R&D, digital and engineering activities, thereby contributing to bringing lifesaving cost-effective therapies and devices to patients world-wide.

Governor for exhaustive survey on tribal habitations

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has emphasised on the need to conduct an exhaustive survey to identify the community, family and individual based needs of primitive tribal habitations in the State.

The survey would help in taking up individual needs based nutritional interventions, she said, directing officials to come up with other and development initiatives necessary in these habitations.

Dr. Soundararajan inquired about the welfare schemes and other programmes being availed of by the tribal people in their habitations.

Telangana needs Rs 1 lakh crore to complete pending irrigation projects

TheTelanganagovernment has spent over 1.61 lakh crore on construction of major and medium Irrigation projects in the past eight years between 2014 and 2022. Of this, over 1 lakh crore has been spent on two major irrigation projects,KaleshwaramandPalamuru-Rangareddylift irrigation schemes (LIS). According to officials, the state would have to pump in another 1 lakh crore to complete pending projects in the state.

The has earmarked 26,000 crore in the 2023-24 budget and announced that it would provide irrigation facilities to another 50 lakh acres in the next two to three years to achieve one crore irrigated Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture land.

Of the 1.61 lakh crore spent so far on irrigation projects, over 50% (84,500 crore) was spent on the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme (KLIS) alone and another 22,800 crore on the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation project till December, 2022. Some projects such as Kaleshwaram redesigning happened after BRS (then TRS) came to power, while some projects, which were taken up byCongressand TDP governments in the united AP, were completed by the BRS government.

WHO to set up mRNA vaccine hub in Hyderabad as part of global plan: KT Rama Rao

In a major validation of Hyderabad’s growing clout as a global vaccine hub, World Health Organisation (WHO) is setting up an mRNA vaccine hub in Hyderabad as part of its plans to set up such hubs in select locations globally, industries minister KT Rama Rao disclosed.

The mRNA vaccine hub is coming up atBiological Eby way of a technology transfer by WHO to create capacities not just for global emergencies such as the Covid-19 pandemic but also to tackle future pandemics as well as develop capacities for ailments such as malaria, HIV, and cancer.

KTR said that as Hyderabad is also Home to one of the largest number of US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA) approved manufacturing Plants at 214, the was trying to get the US drug regulator to set up its offices in the city.

The city accounts for about 40% of India’s pharma output, KTR said at an interaction in the run-up to the 20th edition of Asia’s largest life sciences conclave – BioAsia 2023 -that kicks off on February 24.

OnTelanganagovernment’s target to double the state’s life sciences ecosystem from $50 billion in value (turnover of $13 billion) in 2021 to $100 billion by 2028, he said the plan is to also double the EMPLOYMENT generated by the sector to 8 lakh over the next five years.

Telangana may touch all-time high in liquor sales for current fiscal

is hoping to hit record sales of liquor worth 30,000 crore for the current fiscal year, if the liquor sales registered thus far across the state are any indication
This is the first time, the state may see the highest figure after its formation. The state has already sold liquor worth 25,000 crore in less than ten months against the 22,000-crore sales during the same period last year.

The reason for it being the increase in daily sales of liquor, which touched 83 crore. With this, the state has gained an additional income of 30 crore per month this year.

In Telangana, there are 2,630 wine shops and 1,000 other establishments that supply alcohol including bars, clubs and tourist hotels. These establishments get their liquor from depots.

Telangana attracted investments worth Rs 3.3 lakh crore since 2014: KT Rama Rao

In the eight and a half years since it was formed in 2014, Indias youngest state of has bagged investments worth Rs 3.3 lakh crore (approx. $40 billion) through TSiPASS as well as in the IT&ITeS sector, Telangana Industries minister KT Rama Rao said.

These new investments have led to the creation of over 22.5 lakh new jobs since 2014, KTR said while expressing happiness that this EMPLOYMENT generation feat had helped Hyderabad overtake other cities that were in leading position in terms of providing job opportunities.

Elaborating on the reasons for investments, the Telangana IT & industries minister said the Telangana government had identified 14 priority sectors with one dedicated director being appointed for each of these priority sectors.

Child labour in Telangana cotton fields is almost eradicated

After three years of consistent advocacy-cum-awareness campaigns for Child Labour elimination organised jointly by International Labour Organization’s (ILO) ‘Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work in Supply Chain’ Project and Telangana, results have shown that engagement of child labour in this supply chain has disappeared.

According to State Government officials, multiple reports have also indicated positive results about child labour not visible in the cotton fields.

Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Rajasthan,Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Telangana are major cotton growing states and Telangana alone accounts for approximately 15% of the country’s total cotton growing area.

According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2018-19 data, there are primarily three types of workers/labour – own cultivation, family labour and casual labour (which accounts for majority of the state’s workforce at 46 per cent) – in cotton cultivation in Telangana.

Telangana begins fever survey, to distribute 1 crore home isolation kits

Authorities inbegan a fever survey across the state on Friday to identify people with Covid-19 symptoms and distribute Home isolation kits free of cost.

The State Government said it has a crore home isolation kits ready for distribution among those who either tested positive for Covid or are having symptoms.

With the number of Covid cases rising in the state for the last three weeks, the medical and Health department in coordination with municipal administration, panchayat raj and other departments launched the door-to-door survey.

Meanwhile, hundreds of workers are working round-the-clock to prepare home isolation kits for distribution across the state. Authorities were using playgrounds or other spacious premises in Hyderabad to prepare the kits.

Telangana to come up with own policy for Omicron cases

In view of the increasing number ofOmicroncases, the state is set to break away from current central guidelines of 15 days of compulsory quarantine for all patients and come up with its own policy.

State Health authorities are in favour of allowing asymptomatic patients to remain at Home while field surveys will be taken up to trace symptomatic cases. Terming the Centres policy unfeasible, the health department stated that since 95 to 97 per cent cases of Omicron are expected to be asymptomatic, putting everyone in quarantine centres will be a waste of Resources.

Substantiating the decision, the director of public health said that all 20 patients detected with the Omicron variant and admitted at the Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) are asymptomatic.
