Reacting to Union minister of state for , animal husbandry and dairying L Murugans comments that theTamil Nadugovernment had not written to the Union Government to take steps to release the 25 Tamil Nadu fishermen from the custody of Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu minister of fisheries-fishermen welfare and animal husbandry Anitha RRadhakrishnansaid that the State Government had taken up the issue with the ministry concerned and prime minister Narendra Modi.

Radhakrishnan said that the additional chief secretary in the ministry of fisheries-fishermen welfare and animal husbandry had written to the joint secretary of the Union ministry of external affairs and the prime minister on October 14 and on October 15 to take steps to release the 23 fishermen of Nagapattinam.

Suicides cost Rs 30,000 crore or 1.3% of Tamil Nadu GDP in 2021, says study by IIT-Madras

The cost due to suicide including attempts in the state in 2021 was around 30,000 crore, 1.3% of the state GDP, according to a study by IIT-Madras. Each of the deaths due to suicide was estimated to cost 1.29 crore.
The study by theRehabilitation Bioengineering Labsat IIT-M to estimate the socio-economic cost of suicide was handed over to Health ministerMa Subramanianon Wednesday. The study pushed for suicide prevention initiatives though state-wide registry, strengthening district mental health programmes, surveillance and Education besides policies and legislation. The cost includes premature loss of life, health Services, bereavement, psychological impact on survivors and lost productivity.
According to NCRB, there were 16,927 deaths due to suicide in TN in 2011, which came down to 13,493 in 2019. There was a steep rise in suicides to 16,883 in 2020. The next year, it rose to 18,925 in 2021 when India had recorded 1.64 lakh deaths due to suicide.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin urged to consult farmers ahead of agriculture budget

Delta farmers have requested chief minister M K Stalin and the Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture minister to hold a consultative meeting with farmers associations before presenting the agriculture budget in the assembly so as to ensure that the government addresses the long-standing demands of farmers.

The farmers also wanted the chief minister to instruct district collectors to first organize such meetings at the district level, especially in delta districts, before calling the state-level meeting.

With officials busy preparing the budget components for 2023-24, this was the right time to invite farmers representatives to discuss various issues related to the progress of the farming community before preparing the budget, he added.

CM Stalin starts mega housing scheme for Sri Lankan Tamils

Chief minister M K Stalin on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the first phase of a mega project to construct 3,510 houses at a cost of Rs 142.16 crore for Sri Lankan people residing at Melmonavur rehabilitation camp in Vellore district.
The government has proposed to construct houses and extend all basic amenities for Sri Lankan Tamil people in all the 106 rehabilitation camps across the state.

Stalin also launched a series of other projects like providing basic amenities including pucca roads, clean drinking water and power supply among others. He announced that the government would bear the tuition and hostel fees of the wards of Sri Lankan Tamil people pursuing engineering, Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and agricultural engineering and postgraduate courses.

Ashwagandha cultivation launched in Dindigul district

Health minister Ma Subramanian on Thursday launched cultivation of the medicinal plantAshwagandha(Withania somnifera) on a 200-acre plantation inDindiguldistrict. He said Ashwagandha cultivation should be the starting point for Dindigul to become a hub of medicinal Plants.

The Rs 1,000crore medicinal plant market in the country offers enormous scope for farmers to scale up their cultivation by exploring all central government schemes. The minister said Ashwagandha is widely cultivated in states likeAndhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh

Tampcol, the state agency manufacturing siddha medicines, depends on other states for raw materials. Hence, medicinal plants grown in the state will greatly benefit Tampcol.

Software Launched In TN To Aid Police Investigation

Chief Minister MK Stalin launched facial recognition Software to assist Police officials in their investigation on 4 October.

Highlights:

The software can compare photos of the suspects with data that have been uploaded in the CCTNS, which will, in turn, help the police personnel in their investigation.

More than 5.30 lakh photos were uploaded to the CCTNS websites.

The Uploaded data will be used to identify or compare suspects, accused persons, missing persons, and unidentified corpses.

It will also help identify if the accused person has any warrant issued against them.

The Software will work in computers at the police stations and on smartphones of police personnel.

The depart is also trying to improve the software to identify faces through CCTV footage.

Stalin launches Makkalai thedi maruthuvam scheme in 8 dists

Chief minister M K Stalin launched Makkalai thedi maruthuvam, an initiative to take healthcare Services to peoples doorsteps, at Samanapalli village near Shoolagiri. He also handed over medicines to beneficiaries of the scheme.

After rolling out the scheme, the chief minister said, The first of its kind scheme in the country will include physiotherapy-related therapies, testing and providing medicines to the poor and for non-communicable diseases at their doorsteps.

Stalin said one crore people from 30 lakh families would be reached out under the scheme.

Tamil Nadu demands 15,000MT of additional wheat per month from Centre

Wheat consumption has increased inTamil Nadudue to changing food habits and the Centre should give 15,000 MT of wheat in addition to the existing allocation of 8,532 MT per month. It could be supplied instead of rice or under open market sales scheme (OMSS).

He thanked the Prime Minister and Union minister of consumer affairs and food and public distribution for permitting Nadu to procure paddy from Sept 1 last year for the kharif season and requested the Centre to approve the same schedule for this year too at the increased MSP announced by the Centre.

He said since 98% of transactions at PDS shops in Tamil Nadu were being done using biometric authentication, only the actual beneficiaries were getting commodities from the ration shops. For more than 40 years, Tamil Nadu has been following universal PDS.

He proposed to extend supply of ragi through PDS outlets across the state if adequate supply of Millets is ensured to the state. Ragi is already being supplied through ration shops in Dharmapuri and the Nilgiris districts.

Tamil Nadu inks investment deals worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore

The Nadu government entered into 60 MoUs with investors to attract more than Rs 1.25 lakh crore investments that are expected to generate 75,000 jobs. With this ‘single day record’ at the Investors’ Conclave on Monday, the government has registered cumulative investments of Rs2.2 lakh croresince May last year.

The new investments include industrial units that make auto components, electric vehicles, solar power components, lithium cells, green energy and aerospace, besides FinTech and data centres. Key investors include ACME Green Hydrogen and Chemicals, which is planning to invest 52,695 crore for a green ammonia plant at Tuticorin and Tata Power which will invest 3,000 crore to make 4GW solar cells.

Stalin orders to provide Rs 1.25crore aid to Tamil Chair at University of Cologne in Germany

Naduchief minister M KStalin ordered to provide Rs 1.25 crore financial assistance for theTamil Chairat University of Cologne in Germany that faces closure due to paucity of funds, said a statement.

Stalin said the previous AIADMK government announced an assistance of Rs 1.25 crore to the Tamil Chair in 2019 and he too as the leader of the opposition had urged the previous government to release the promised aid without delay. On Learning that the promised assistance had not been released until now, Stalin ordered to provide Rs 1.25 crore assistance to the Tamil Chair.

The university in 2014 announced that it would close the Tamil Chair after the retirement of Tamil professorUlrike Niklasin September 2020 due to lack of funds. Indians settled in the United States came to the rescue of the Tamil Chair and donated half of the financial requirement following which the university postponed the closure to June 2022.
