Nagaland Chief Minister Rio said that the Bangladesh delegation has expressed interest in purchasing cereals from the state and reviving the Tuli Paper Mill in Mokokchung, where production had stopped in 1982.

The Nagaland summit was a great success as 60 delegates from 27 countries participated in it. This was the first time that Nagaland showcased its potential before so many foreign delegates.


Tripura mulls fitting GPS collars on wild elephants

TheTripuraforest department is exploring the option of fitting wild elephants withGPScollars, which will help monitor their movement in theAtharamurahill range and pass on alerts to villagers who can then take guard against a possible attack.

The wildlife officials said here on Monday that the department may take the help of a Bengaluru-based company who have expertise in dealing with wild elephants. As part of the initiative, a team of officials along with experts from the company visited the Jumbari area in Atharamura and is waiting for the proposal to fit GPS with the wild elephants to take shape.
The wild elephant menace has become a major problem in the villages in the foothills of Atharamura andBaramura. The tuskers damage many houses and kill several people every year.

A unique scheme, allotting Rs. Eighty-five crores for its implementation, as a step towards bringing the 7000 tea garden workers of Tripura under the Social Security net.

This scheme would ensure housing, rations, and support to the garden workers by integrating the facilities entitled to them by the state and central governments.

Women are over 75 percent of the 7000 tea garden employees, who produce nearly 90 lakh kilos of tea across 54 tea estates and 21 tea processing companies.

The North, Sepahijala, Unakoti, and West Tripura districts produce the majority of the tea.

The year 2022 Women Empowerment Campaign was launched by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.

Northeast rebel groups regrouping in China-Myanmar borderlands: Security experts

Security experts believe a resurgence in militant attacks, which have rocked India’s northeast in recent months, have come about as militants work to regroup in China’s borderlands with Myanmar, and expect more to follow even as to Manipur and peace talks in Nagaland are held. Naga splinter groups impatient with stalled talks as well as rebel Manipuri groups who have a stake in disrupting upcoming elections to the state assembly, are believed to be regrouping in the borderlands of China’s Yunnan province and Myanmar, taking advantage of the turmoil in the latter by using it as a transit corridor.

Groups such as the United Liberation Front of Assam (I), People’s Liberation Army of Manipur and splinter factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (K) who are against peace talks, are believed to be regrouping in the borderland.

Push for 2,486-cr Tripura roadways project to boost regional connectivity

The 49th Network Planning Group meeting of PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan two days ago has recommended a roadways project inTripurato boost regional connectivity, officials here said.

According to the decision, the road section ofKhowai-Teliamura-Harinawith a total length of 134.9 km was considered for its improvement and widening to two lanes with paved shoulders of NH-208 in Tripura at the cost of Rs 2,486 crore.

The project is planned with a multimodal connectivity approach; connectivity to industrial clusters and new SEZ inWest Jalefavillage of South Tripura, efficient freight movement; reducing carbon footprint; optimised alignment and logistical efficiency, officials added. The project is expected to enhance regional connectivity, as this corridor is close to the Bangladesh border and it would connect Bangladesh through Kailashahar, Kamalpur and Khowai border check posts

Nagaland govt to hold special Assembly session against AFSPAIn the aftermath of the killing of 14 civilians by security forces in Mon district, the Nagaland government decided to hold a special session of the Assembly to discuss and pass a resolution for repealing the AFSPA.

The special session is tentatively scheduled for December 20 and the Governor of Assam and Nagaland Jagdish Mukhi will formally summon it, Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu told. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, gives the Army powers of arrest and detention in ‘disturbed areas’. He said that the decision was taken during a meeting of the Core Committee on Naga Political Issue of the held here during the day.
