Cabinet sets up new skill training board with courses as per NEP

The Maharashtra state cabinet approved the setting up of Maharashtra State Skill, Vocational Education and Training Board by merging the Maharashtra State Skill development Board and Maharashtra State Vocational Training Council. The setting up of the new training board will make it possible to start skill education courses along with school education as per the provisions of the National Education Policy.

Assessment survey in Maharashtra on November 12 divides educators

National Achievement Survey (NAS) conducted in Std III, V, VIII and X to assess Learning achievement of children in their respective classes will be held on November 12 across the country.

However, many teachers feel that this year, it will be hard to assess the true result of the children as lower primary schools in the state have yet to open and even the ones that are open, may not have 100% attendance as the schools will reopen after Diwali break on November 11.

Another group of teachers feels that such an examination is important as it will help in understanding the learning outcome of students which in turn will help plan the further action for the children, but they also feel that the must have planned better.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has developed the Assessment Framework for gauging the competencies attained by the students vis-a-vis learning outcomes. The Survey goes beyond the scorecard and includes the background variables to correlate students performance in different learning outcomes vis-a-vis contextual variables, the official NAS website says.

Maharashtra nod for Rs 16 crore relief for fishermen

The state finance department has approved disbursement of Rs 15.80 crore as compensation towards the losses incurred by the fishering during the 2019 Kyarr and Maha .

The state had already approved a specialfinancial package of Rs 65.17 crorein September 2020 for thefishermenaffected by the cyclone Kyaar and Maha and the fishermen who had already been facing financial crisis due to stormy weather from August to October 2019. But with the Covid-19 crisis hitting the state soon after, only 50% of the funds had been disbursed. Now, the remaining amount too has been approved for disbursal.

Crop insurance for 11.4 lakh hectare in eight districts of Marathwada

This kharif season, crop Insurance has been extended to more than 11.40 lakh hectare of farmland in the eight districts of the Marathwada region.

The Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture department officials said that Thursday was the last day for getting the insurance cover for this seasons . Farmers are, however, seeking an extension.

Close to 24 lakh farmers, comprising about 96% of the debt-free farmers, have applied under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) a central government=sponsored crop insurance scheme which offers cover to kharif crops like Cotton, tur, green gram, urad, maize etc.

Officials maintained that the assured sum of insurance compensation has been pegged at over Rs 4,600 crore against the premium of Rs 1,300 crore in the eight districts of the Marathwada region.

Biometrics of 13,000 criminals to be ready soon

Biometric (fingerprint,irisandpalm scan) data of around 13,000 accused in different crimes would be digitized in line with the policy of the .

The work to update the data in the Automated Multimodal Biometric Identification System (AMBIS) is underway on a war footing at different Police stations under the supervision of trained staffers.

Maharashtrais said to be the first state to implement the concept of digitization of criminal Database last year.

SCR earns revenue of Rs 19.1cr in May

Amid the current Covid situation, the South Central RAILWAY (SCR has earned revenue of Rs.19.14 crore in parcel earning for May, which is a record revenue.

As per the official record, the parcel earnings recorded by SCR for May is almost Rs 3 crore higher than the previous highest parcel revenue earned during January 2021. The zone recorded the highest ever single day parcel earnings of Rs. 1.09 crore on May 6 2021.

The revenue for May includes milk transported through Doodh Duronto specials to Delhi. SCR has operated 69 kisan specials transporting 24,748 tonne of agricultural produce.

‘Maharashtra must have vehicle scraping units in all districts’

Chief minister Ekanth Shinde and deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis held a meeting regarding projects in the state with Union road and transport minister.

Shinde directed officials to complete projects in time by removing bottlenecks in national highways, flyovers and road work in the state. Gadkari said the state must start a vehicle scraping unit in every district and set up 150-200 such units.

Gadkari said the central government announced a policy to scrap vehicles older than 15 years and appealed to the to start scrapping units in every district inMaharashtra. Officials said Gadkari suggested starting 150-200 units, four in large and developed districts and two in small undeveloped districts.

NEP to soon allow course credit transfer among colleges in same vicinity in Maharashtra

Autonomous colleges in the same vicinity will soon allow students to choose from a basket of courses and enable transfer of credits among them. For instance, a student from Jai Hind College will be able to choose a course from St Xaviers and earn credits and vice versa.

In a workshop with close to 150 autonomous colleges in the state, Chandrakant Patil, minister of higher and technical Education, even mooted the idea of vertical Growth in case leading colleges want to expand and are falling short of space for the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).

The state also plans to launch a portal offering massive open online courses (MOOCs) on the lines of Swayam, called MahaSwayam. Autonomous colleges can share their content online for other colleges and can also upload specialised courses and possibly earn revenue through it, suggested the minister, said a principal, who attended the workshop at SNDT Womens University.

Not enough recycle plants to divert water to Marathwada

MaharashtraministerJayant Patil informed the state Legislative Council that the BMC had not undertaken enough water recycling projects because of which 4 TMC water could not be diverted to the drought-proneMarathwadaregion.

There are not enough recycling Plants set up by the in Mumbai due to which 4 TMC water from Vaitarna dam cannot be diverted to Marathwada. Once such plants are operational, some water can be sent to Marathwada.
