State tops in fishery, lags in consumption

Though Andhra Pradesh is the largest producer of seafood in the country, the state lags behind when it comes to its consumption. Fish is a good source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids which help heart. While the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends per capita fish consumption to be 18 kg, it is just 8.07 kg in Andhra Pradesh.

The state has a 974-km coastline and has rivers, canals, reservoirs, lakes and other waters bodies suitable for fishing and setting up of fish tanks. As per estimates, Andhra Pradesh produces over 42 lakh tonnes of fish per year and exports it to various parts in the country and abroad.

State Sports MinisterM Srinivasa Raosaid that AP has a vast coastline in the country and is comfortable for water sports training. He urged the central government to allot the necessary budget to create basic facilities for the sports and also encourage the sportsmen under the Khelo India Scheme.

Around 90% of works of Rs. 6 crore Multipurpose Indoor stadium in Vizianagaram and 98% works of Rs. 8 crore Multipurpose Sports Complex were completed. Another project of Rs. 4.5 crore multipurpose indoor hall is at the basement level.

TheSports Authority of Andhra Pradesh(SAAP) has sent the proposals for 13 Khelo India centers in all 13 districts as per the central government’s new guidelines.
The state would host 38 sports tournaments for under 14, 17, and 19 in 2021-22 as part of the School Games Federation of India.

Three Monuments in Adarsh Smarak Scheme

Andhra Pradesh’s three monuments have been designated as “Adarsh Smarak” in order to provide additional Services.

About the Adarsh Smarak Scheme:

The Ministry of Culture launched the scheme in 2014 with the goal of improving visitor amenities at historical and archaeological monuments/sites.
It also aims to improve monument preservation.
The monuments on the list will have all of the tourist amenities required by international standards, such as wi-fi, signage, security, encroachment-free zones, interpretation centres, and so on.

The scheme’s objectives are as follows:

To make monuments more accessible to visitors.
To improve/provide restrooms, drinking water, signage, a cafeteria, and wi-fi access.
To provide interpretation services as well as audio-visual centres
To improve wastewater and garbage disposal, as well as to instal a rainwater harvesting system.
To make the monuments accessible to people with disabilities.
To carry out the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

APTA plans to expand its horizon, services

American Progressive Association (APTA) will conduct a three-day national conference in Atlanta, Georgia from September 1 to 3 on the occasion of it completing 15 years of existence. The APTA team, which has been on a tour to various cities of two Telugu states, invited several noted personalities in different fields from AP andTelanganafor the convention.

Vizag civic body to leverage UNDP programme for Covid control

The GreaterVisakhapatnamMunicipal Corporation (GVMC) has decided to leverage the programme run by United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), in association with theGovernment of India, to take upCovid-19prevention and control measures in the city.
GVMC will conduct decentralised activities at the ward level involving ward corporators, secretariats, the community and other stakeholders under the initiative. GVMC mayor G Hari Venkata Kumari has requested corporators to get involved with the programme which may help them deal with the present or future emergencies.

To carry out the UNDP-GoI (USAID) projects activities and city initiatives for long-term, Sustainability and Resilience Program (SRP) has been started by the establishment of Sustainability and Resilience Unit (SRU) in December 2020.

The purpose of SRP is to support the city as well as the state to achieve and improve resilience. The main components of SRP are Environment management, Disaster Management, Climate risk management, Human resource development, knowledge management, research and innovation, partnerships, collaborations and convergence.

State okays 2,020 cr for Polavaram works

It is pertinent to note that the Polavaram project works came to a grinding halt following the massive floods damaging the diaphragm wall during two successivemonsoonseasons in 2019 and 2020. Although the state government has completed the other major works including installation of 48 radial gates and spillway work, the deadlock over the diaphragm wall had hit the overall progress.

Finally, the National Hydro-Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) team carried out the inspections and detected damage. NHPC submitted a report on its study and roadmap for carrying the works ahead. The NHPC report was scrutinised at the highest level in Cwc, Dam Designs Review Panel (DDRP) and jal shakti ministry and directed the state government to go ahead with the repairs as suggested by the NHPC.

EESL to implement energy efficiency drive for rural Andhra Pradesh

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), an energy service company of the Union Government, has decided to implement one more LED lighting programme for the rural households of Andhra Pradesh. The state earlier installed 29.3 Lakh LED street lights.

The LED street lighting program is estimated to save 133 MU electricity per annum in urban areas and around 260 MU in the rural areas. This would reduce the Co2 emissions to the tune of about 0.33 million tons.

Till date, EESL has installed over 1.14 crore LED street lights in the and gram panchayats across India. This has resulted in an estimated energy Savings of 7.72 billion kWh per year and avoided peak demand of 1,286 MW. This has also led to greenhouse gas emission reduction of 5.32 million tonnes per year, and estimated annual monetary savings of Rs 5,395 crore in electricity bills of municipalities.

Under the street lighting national programme, 1576 urban local bodies have been enrolled. Out of these ULBs, work has been completed in 1,060 ULBs in the country. The executive vice-chairman has requested the executives of the state governments and in particular pro-active states like Andhra Pradesh to play a pivotal role in de-carbonization to mitigate the ill effects of Climate-change”>Climate Change.

CM Jagan launches ragi malt drink for school children

Adding more Nutrition inputs to the Jagananna Goru Muddha, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy formally launched the programme of serving ragi malt drink to students in government and aided schools across AP state, on Tuesday.

Launching the programme in virtual mode in the presence of senior officials at his camp office, the Chief Minister said ragi malt would be served to 37, 63,698 students. This would cost Rs 86 crore a year. Henceforth, ragi malt will be part of the morning menu for students in 44,392 government and aided schools.

The Chief Minister said ragi malt has additional nutrients of calcium and iron, which would help those having problems of anemia. He thanked the Sathya Sai Central Trust for partnering with the government and coming forward to bear Rs 42 crore out of the annual expenditure of Rs 86 crore.

AP on track to become global electronics manufacturing hub

Andhra Pradeshhas emerged as a rapidly expanding hub for global manufacturing, with a particular emphasis on the electronics system design and manufacturing .

The state boasts of multiple large original equipment manufacturers and original design manufacturers in the semiconductor sector. It has four electronics manufacturing clusters, including two in Tirupati, one in Sri City, and another inKopparthy, which is currently under construction.

TheYSRelectronics manufacturing cluster is being developed with ready-to-build factory sheds, including approximately 30 Type 1 sheds every 50,000 sq ft and four Type 2 sheds, each spanning 221,000 sq ft.
The State Government has already developed 3 lakh sq ft of plug-and-play sheds, out of which 2 lakh sq ft have been allotted to a major Indian ESDM player. The states facilities have a production capacity of 3.5 million mobile phones per month and 3 million TVs per year.

BEE preparing mechanism to take energy efficiency to every doorstep

The Energy Efficiency and conservation efforts of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) have saved electricity worth 40,945 crore in the last few years.

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has now set an ambitious goal to save 129 million tons of oil equivalent (Mtoe) in all sectors for the next decade from now.

For this, the BEE is contemplating to prepare a comprehensive plan and mechanism to reach out to every doorstep in the country.

The BEE is also looking at advising other states in the country to followAndhra Pradeshand Kerala model for effective implementation of energy efficiency and conservation programmes by establishing a standalone/dedicated agencies to fully focus on energy efficiency.

The State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI)-2020, prepared by Alliance of Energy Efficient economy (AEEE), has identified Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, and Naduas states that are implementing effective energy efficiency activities.
