ICC World Cup 2022 U-19

On February 5, 2022, India won the ICC U-19 World Cup final against England by four wickets at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Highlights:

The victory gave India a record-tying sixth U-19 title. In 47.4 overs, the ICC U-19 Indian team chased down a target of 190 runs and reached 195 for six.

Nishant Sindhu helped India win the match with 50 runs off 54 balls with undefeated match-winning innings.

For the first time since winning the event in South Africa in 1998, England reached the final. India defeated Australia by 96 runs in the second semi-final.

Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme

Under the PMFME Scheme, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries has introduced six one-district product (ODOP) brands.

Highlights:PMFME is the acronym for Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises.

Amrit Phal: It’s amla juice for Haryana’s Gurugram. It’s natural with lemon juice added. Amrit Phal is priced at Rs 120 for 500 ml.

Cori Gold: Coriander powder was created for the Rajasthani city of Kota. Because of its flavor, the product is one-of-a-kind. Cori gold prices 34 rupees per gram.

Kashmiri Mantra: Kashmiri red chiles are used to make this product. It was created for the Jammu and Kashmir district of Kulgam. Seventy-five rupees buy 100 grams of the Kashmiri mantra.

Madhu Mantra: It’s a honey-like substance created for the Uttar Pradesh district of Saharanpur. It’s a honey with a variety of . Madhu mantra honey is gathered from bees that are allowed to fly freely. Five hundred grams of Madhu mantra will set you back 185 rupees.

Green Energy Corridor Phase II

The Government of India approved Green Energy Corridor Phase II. The estimated outlay of the phase is Rs 12,031 crores. Under this phase, 10,750 kilometres of transmission lines are to be constructed and 27,500 MVA sub stations are to be added. MVA is Mega Volt Ampere. These additions are of the generated in different parts of the country. The project is to be implemented in seven states. They are Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Kerala, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.

The Green Energy Corridor Phase II will be implemented between 2021-22 and 2025-26.

33% of the project cost is to be provided by the central government. That is, Rs 3,970 crores. The Central Governments assistance will reduce the intra state transmission costs. And will ultimately reduce the cost of the power supplied.

It will help India achieve its target of 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

It will generate direct and indirect EMPLOYMENT opportunities.

The project will boost Energy Security of the country.

It is being implemented in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. It aims to generate 24 GW of renewable power. It is to be completed by 2022. It will add 22,600 MVA of substations and 9,700 km of transmission lines. This is being implemented at a cost of Rs 10,141 crores. Here the central government has contributed Rs 4.056 crores, that is, 33% of the cost.

Sri Lanka India Oil Deal

The Sri Lankan Government signed an agreement with the Lanka Indian Oil Corporation (LIOC). According to the agreement, Sri Lanka will lease oil tanks to IOC.

Sri Lanka has leased 14 tanks to LIOC for fifty years. Another 24 tanks have been leased to CPC. CPC is joint venture of LIOC and Trinco Petroleum Private Limited. CPC is Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. The CPC is to develop 61 oil farms in the country.

Under the agreement signed in 2003, Sri Lanka agreed to lease all of its 99 tank oil farms to India. This has now been nullified by the new agreement. The new agreement brings in new Governance structure.

Sri Lanka is under huge financial pressure. The country has to repay 4.5 billion USD in 2022 alone. Its Foreign Exchange reserves are decreasing largely.

UN WFP Signs MoU To Improve PM POSHAN Scheme

To strengthen the effectiveness of PM POSHAN, the United Nations World Food Program, UN WFP, has struck a deal with a Bengaluru-based NGO (Non-Governmental Organization).

Highlights:

Pradhan Mantri POshan SHakti Nirman is the acronym for Pradhan Mantri POshan SHakti Nirman. Previously, the program was known as the Mid-Day Meal Program.

The Akshara Patra Foundation and the Akshara Patra Foundation inked the agreement.

PM POSHAN Shakti Nirman has received financial help from the World Food Programme. It will help schools improve their mid-day feeding programs.

The NGO will form a steering group. The committee will include officials from the World Food Programme, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations.

Steps for Online Education to Students

The Indian government has taken steps to provide online Education to students the information given by the Union Minister for Education.

Highlights:

PM eVIDYA: Facilitating online Learning and TEACHING materials of various types among teachers and students.

DIKSHA: It is a Digital for providing students with quality e-content for school education in states/UTs, and it has QR coded Energized Textbooks for all grades.

Swayam Prabha: Its a programme that offers TV channels for classes 1 to 12 (one channel per class).

Shiksha Vani: This includes the usage of Radio, Community radio and CBSE podcasts.

Special e-content for the visually and hearing impaired developed on Digitally Accessible Information System (DAISY) and in sign language on NIOS website/YouTube.

All the mentioned schemes/programmes are free of cost and available to all the students across the country.

Khel Ratna Award as Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award

PM Narendra Modi has announced that the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award will be renamed as the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.

Highlights:

The pass was primarily based on the numerous requests he obtained from across the nation. Dhyan Chand, whose birthday is celebrated as National Sports Day, won three Olympic golds for India in Hockey.

The award was inaugurated in 1991-92. The Khel Ratna award comprises a medallion, a certificate, and a prize of Rs.25 lakh. The first awardee of the Khel Ratna was chess legend, Viswanathan Anand. In recent years, some of the winners include cricketer Rohit Sharma, wrestler Vinesh Phogat, womens hockey team captain Rani Rampal, amongst others.

Earth Observation Satellite Soon be Launched by ISRO

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is ready to launch an Earth Observation Satellite on 12th August.

Highlights:

The satellite is set to be launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota.

Satellite referred to as EOS-03 will be carried onboard the 14th flight of the GSLV celled GSLV-F10.

GSLV-F10 will be a satellite in the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.

EOS-03 will attain the remaining geostationary orbit using its onboard propulsion system.

In this GSLV flight, a 4-metre diameter Ogive-shaped payload fairing will be flown for the first time.

This will be the 14th flight of GSLV.

Anniversary of Quit India Movement – 8th August

The 79th anniversary of the August Kranti Din or Quit India Movement, which is regarded as one of the necessary milestones in the HISTORY of the freedom hostilities of our country, is being determined on eight August 2021.

Highlights:

On eighth Aug 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave a clarion call to stop British rule and launched the Quit India Movement at the All-India Congress Committee in Mumbai.

After the failure of the Cripps Mission, Gandhiji gave the name Do or Die in his Quit India speech delivered at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Mumbai. Grateful India is paying homage to the freedom fighters and remembering the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs during the freedom struggle.

Nagasaki Day of Japan – 9th August

Japan commemorates the ninth of August every year as Nagasaki day. On August 9, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan.

Highlights:

The bomb was code-named Fat Man due to the diagram of the bomb as it had a wide, spherical shape. This passed off three days after losing an atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
A region of about 5 square miles was obliterated, and around 65,000 human beings have been killed in the bombing. Nagasaki and Hiroshima continue to experience the impact of the adverse bombing even today.
