Nutrition Mission: States used 56% of funds in last 3 years

The Minister for Women & Child Development, Smriti Irani, noted in Parliament that, State Governments and Union Territories have used only 56% of the total funds released under Poshan Abhiyan or Nutrition Mission in last three years.

The central government highlighted that, out of total amount of Rs 5312 crore given between financial years 2019 to 2021, Rs 2985 crore was used.

Poshan Abhiyan was launched in March 2018 with the aim of reducing stunting, low birth weight, undernutrition challenges by 2% per year. It also seeks to reduce anaemia among young children, women and adolescents by 3% per year until 2022.

Labour Ministry on Global pension report

Ministry of Labour and EMPLOYMENT told the Rajya Sabha that; a Global Pension Index that placed pension system of India towards bottom of the list was not prepared on the basis of reliable comparable international data.

The Global Pension Index Report was published in 2021 and has ranked India at 40thplace, out of 43 countries for its pension system.

Report was published by Mercer, a management consulting firm.

Index is prepared on the basis of certain criteria of sustainability, adequacy, and Integrity.

Index placed India in the same category of Japan, South Korea and a few other countries.

NPS Trust is a specialised division of in India. It works under the parent head of Ministry of Finance.

Chile passes law allowing same-sex marriage

Chile has passed a law permitting same-sex couples to marry on December 9, 2021.

The adopt was signed into law by President Sebastian Pinera during a event attended by activists for LGBT and broader Human Rights.

The ceremony was organised more than six months after conservative leader announced that he would smooth the way for a marriage law which had long been pending in the nations Congress.

The new law will allow all children with a father and a mother, with two fathers or with two mothers to have the same rights and same protection.

This move will help hundreds of children and adolescents who have been unable to get legal protection from both parents.

National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) and 1M1B Foundation signed MoU to train teachers and students of EMRSs

AMemorandum of Understandinghas been signedon 7thNovember, 2022 between National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS),an autonomous organization established under Ministry of Tribal Affairs and 1M1B Foundation (1M1B) at NESTS headquarters, New Delhi.The MoU was signed by Shri. Asit Gopal, Commissioner, NESTS and Shri Manav Subodh, Managing Director, 1M1B in presence of 1M1Band NESTS team.

The program will capacitate the teachers & students with Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) skills using the AR-VR skills curriculum launched by CBSE. The programme objectives include conduct of training and capacity-building programs for teachers and students of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs). In pilot phase, as part of MoU,programmeis being implemented in EMRSs of 2 states, namely Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.

India’s first privately built rocket, Vikram-S, launched by ISRO

India’s first privately built rocket – Vikram-suborbital (VKS)- was launched by the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) on Friday. The rocket – developed by Skyroot Aerospace –has been named after Vikram Sarabhai, hailed as the father of India’s space sector. In a bid to symbolise a new start, the mission has been named ‘Prarambh‘, which literally translates as begining.

This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had opened the space sector for participation by private players in June 2020. The government had called it a big reform amid the push for Make-in-India scheme.

COP27 – France contributes to the Global Shield against Climate Risks

The Global Shield Against Climate Risks, a joint initiative of the and the V20 Group of 20 vulnerable countries, was launched at the COP 27 in Sharm el-Sheikh.

This new initiative aims to respond to the call from the most climate vulnerable countries to improve the response to Climate Change-related loss and damage. In 2023, France will contribute 20 million in subsidies to the Global Shield Against Climate Risks. Germany, Canada, Denmark, the United States, France and Ireland will contribute a combined total of 210 million to the Global Shield. Other countries contribution announcements are forthcoming.

Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Fiji, Ghana, Pakistan, the Philippines and Senegal will be among the first countries to benefit from the Global Shield.

The Global Shield is structured around two pillars: a coordination platform tasked with designing Insurance solution packages together with the beneficiary countries and a financing structure that will support the deployment of these solutions. Frances contribution will go to the Global Shields financial vehicle.

Global Drug Policy Index

The Harm Reduction Consortium released the first Global Drug Policy Index.

Highlights:

Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Australia are the top five countries in this rating when it comes to compassionate and Health-oriented drug regulations.

Brazil, Uganda, Indonesia, Kenya, and Mexico are the five countries with the lowest rankings.

Out of a total of 30 countries, India is positioned 18th, which received 46 out of 100 scores and 63 out of 100 on the “usage of severe sentences and responses” criterion.

It received a 49 out of 100 for health and harm reduction and received a score of 38 out of 100 for proportionality in criminal reaction.

India received a 33 out of 100 for the availability and accessibility of internationally prohibited medications for the alleviation of pain and suffering.

NASA and US Geological Survey led Landsat 9 mission collected and sent its first Light images of the Earth.

Images highlight the remote coastal islands and inlets of Kimberley region of Western Australia, Lake Erie, white sands of Pensacola Beach and Glaciers high in the Himalayas.

Landsat 9 is an Earth observation satellite. It was launched from Space Launch Complex-3E at Vandenberg Space Force Base on September 27, 2021. The mission was launched through an Atlas V 401 launch vehicle. This is a joint mission of NASA and US Geological Survey (USGS). NASA looks after building, launching, and testing the satellite on the other hand, USGS operates this satellite, and manages & distributes the data archive.

Reserve Bank Of India (RBI) is set to organise its first global hackathon called HARBINGER 2021Innovation for Transformation focusing on digital payments.

The global hackathon will be organised under theme of Smarter Digital Payments.

It will witness participants to identify and develop solutions which can be used:

To make digital payments accessible to the under-served

To enhance the ease of payments & user experience

To strengthen the security of digital payments and

to promote customer protection.

Thehackathonis inviting innovative ideas in payment & settlement system.

Through this hackathon, RBIseeks ideas on easy-to-use, innovative, non-mobile digital payment solutions to convert small-ticket cash transactions into digital mode to remove physical act of payment. It also seeks to develop alternate authentication mechanism for digital payments. Under the hackathon, RBI will also seek Social Media analysis monitoring tool to detect digital payment fraud and disruption.

Airport was declared as major airport by exercising powers conferred by Sub-Section (i) of Section 2 of the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India Act, 2008.

The Government has planned to set up the Indian Institute of Heritage at Noida.

Highlights:

The Indian Institute of Heritage would offer Masters and PhD courses in HISTORY of Arts, Conservation, Museology, Archival Studies, Archaeology, Preventives Conservation, Epigraphy and Numismatics, Manuscriptology, etc. as well as conservation training facilities to in-service employees and the students of the Indian Institute of Heritage.

This will impact higher Education and research in fields related to the rich Indian heritage and its conservation.

PM-DAKSH by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister

The Union Minister for Social and Empowerment, Dr Virendra Kumar, has unveiled a portal and mobile utility named PM-DAKSH, which aims to make the Skill development schemes on hand to the target groups.

The Education programs will be implemented through Government Training Institutes and Sector Skill Councils constituted using the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and other credible institutions.

The training programmes will be supplied for the following: Up-skilling/Reskilling, Short Term Training Programme, Long Term Training Programme, Entrepreneurship Development Program (EDP).

The target crew include Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Safai Karamcharis.

India to have US standard highways in 3 years: Nitin Gadkari

Union Road and Transport MinisterNitin Gadkari said that he believes that within three years, the entire country will be provided with national highways parallel to the standards of the American highways.

The minister was virtually present on the program on Saturday, celebrated as development day by Gujarat, marking the completion of five years of Chief ministership ofVijay Rupani.

Under the able Leadership of Prime MinisterNarendra Modi, our national highways projects are gaining momentum. I believe that by the next three years, entire country will be provided with national highways parallel to the standards of the American highways. At one point of time, we used to construct only 2 kilometers roads per day, whereas now we are constructing 38 kilometers roads per day,” said Gadkari.

The union minister said that the ongoing works of Rs 8,711 crore for 125 kilometers expressway between Kim and Vadodara via Ankleshwar will be completed by December this year. This stretch of the expressway was part of the larger Delhi-Mumbai expressway. The stretch passes through seven districts of Gujarat, Dahod, Panchmahals, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Valsad and also .
