Seafood export.India sets $14 billion marine product export target by 2025

India has set a target of achieving $14 billion in exports of marine products by 2025 and efforts are being made to achieve the target, said Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industrysaid.

The seafood export sector is showing a positive trend during this year as well, showing a Growth of 3 per cent, the Minister said at the inaugural function of the 23rdIndia International Seafood Show 2023 at Kolkata.

Millet International Initiative for Research and Awareness (MIIRA)

India is holding the Presidency of theG20from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023. During India’s time as president, the country is committed to maintaining its focus on Food Security.

Towards this goal, India plans to propose the launch of a global initiative to encourage Millets consumption and production known as– Millet International Initiative for Research and Awareness also known as MIIRA.

The UN‘s declaration as the International Year of Millet 2023 has been instrumental for India to be at the forefront in celebrating the millet year. MIIRA is in line with this declaration. The MIIRA secretariat will be in Delhi.

Besides setting up a web platform to connect researchers and holding international research conferences, the plan is also to promote millet consumption by raising awareness.

The government is targeting close to 21 million tonne (MT) of millet production in 2022-23; this stood at 14.5 MT in 2015-16. Indias exports stood at 159,332 tonne in FY22 versus 147,501 tonne in FY21.

Indian, Uzbek armies participate in joint military exercise DUSTLIK

In an effort to boost bilateral DEFENCE ties between the two countries, the fourth edition of the 14-day-long joint military exercise DUSTLIK between the Indian Army and Uzbekistan Army commenced on Monday in Foreign Training Node, Pithoragarh (Uttarakhand).

The joint exercise will focus on joint counter-terrorist operations in mountainous and semi-urban scenario under United Nations(UN) mandate and will include field training exercises, combat discussions, lectures, demonstrations and culminate with a validation exercise, they said.

Both sides will jointly train, plan and execute a series of tactical drills for neutralisation of likely threats, while Learning to exploit new generation equipment and technology for conducting joint operations.

Although many have adopted digital modes of payment — with the shift gathering pace during the pandemic — the verdict on demonetisation is still not clear on whether it has delivered its set goal of weeding out black money and checking the Growth of the parallel economy.

Exercise Sea Vigil-22

Exercise Sea Vigil was conceptualized in 2018 to strengthen Indias coastal DEFENCE by improving coordination between various stakeholders.

It covers Indias entire 7,516 km coastline as well as 2 million sq km of Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

It provides a realistic assessment of Indias strengths and weaknesses and helps the country boost its maritime and national security.

The exercise is the largest in India in terms of geographical extent, the number of stakeholders, the number of units involved, and the broad objectives.

NHAIs infra investment bonds, offering an effective return of 8%

NHAI InvIT is the Investment trust sponsored by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to support the governments National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP). NHAIs InvIT is a Trust established by NHAI under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 and SEBI (Security and Exchange Board of India) regulations.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime MinisterNarendra Modihad approved the NHAIs Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) in December 2019, and the company had started to meet investor groups the following year.

Infrastructure investment trusts are institutions similar to Mutual Funds, which pool investments from various categories of investors and invest them into completed and revenue-generating infrastructure projects, thereby creating returns for the investor.

Panel formed on SC status for Dalit Christians, Dalit Muslims: Centre

The Union Government has filed a fresh affidavit before The Supreme Court, through the Ministry of Social and Empowerment, stating its current position on the inclusion ofDalit Christians and Dalit Muslims in the Scheduled Castes listand on the petitions challenging the constitutionality of Para 3 of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, which allows only members of Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism to be identified as SCs.

The Union government said it had examined the issue and noted the demands from Dalit Christian and Dalit Muslim communities for inclusion in the SC list and accordingly formed athree-member Commission of Inquiry headed by former Chief Justice of India Justice K.G. Balakrishnanto look into all aspects of the matter. It said this was done because the issue is a seminal and historically complex sociological and constitutional question that requires a definitive study and extensive consultation with all stakeholders.
