Tripura on top of joblessness list in northeast, says report

Amid the celebration of, the government inTripurawas left red-faced after the publication of the Centre for Monitoring Indian economy (CMIE) report, which stated that Unemployment in Tripura increased to 17% in May-August against the drastic drop in the the national Average to 6.43%.

The figure for unemployment in Tripura is appeared to be the highest among the northeastern states but below Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana with 23.8%, 23.2%, and 22.9% respectively.

The unemployment rate was the lowest in Chhattisgarh at 0.1% in September, followed by Assam at 0.4%, Uttarakhand at 0.5%, Madhya Pradesh at 0.9%, Gujarat at 1.6%, Meghalaya at 2.3% and Odisha at 2.9%, the data showed. The opposition CPM andCongressblamed the State Government of the steady rise in unemployment in Tripura and said the scope of EMPLOYMENT in rural areas has been shrinking due to inadequate allocation of funds for rural development, including MGNREGS and scrapping of all state-sponsored schemes.
