The state government has imposedEssential Services Maintenance Act(ESMA) on protesting contractual health workers granting authorities the power to take action against employees, who participated in strikes, including potential job termination.

This comes after another strike by regular Health workers was called off on Sunday after assurance from state health minister T S Singhdeo.
The contractual health workers have been on a strike from the past 20 days demanding regularisation of their jobs.

Earlier, the state president of the organization of contract workers,Kaushlesh Tiwarihad announced Water Satyagrah, which was staged by 15 health workers on July 12. All the health employees had gathered in large numbers from different districts.

Meanwhile, the Chhattisgarh has ordered all collectors to take strict action against health employees who are on strike. The order states that the collectors should take action against the employees, who are disrupting essential Services, this includes employees who are refusing to work.
