Meghalaya, NEEPCO join hands to develop 2 hydropower projects

TheMeghalayagovernment has signed an agreement with the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd for the development of two hydel projects in the state, an official statement said.

The agreement for a 50-megawatt Wah Umiam Hydro Electric Project Stage-I and 100-MW Wah Umiam Hydro Electric Project Stage-II was signed between the two parties.

The minister also assured that the will extend all support to the executing agency for the earlly ycompletion of the project . Tynsong, who is in charge of the state power department, said power generation is the main problem faced by Meghalaya.

The state currently has a capacity to produce only 350 MW of power, while the requirement is 650 MW, he said, adding that such an agreement with the CPSU is essential.

Assam bid to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates

The Health department on Thursday launchedSwasthya Sewa Abhiyan(SSA)-2 to improve the states maternal mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR).

The SSA-2 aims to provide mother and child care through specialist doctors from remotest villages to the city. Mapping of pregnant Women is being done under the scheme with the help of ASHA workers. Health camps will be held in multiple locations in each of the 34 districts till the end of October.

Assams MMR has improved to 205 per one lakh live births but remained one of the highest in the country, while the IMR has come down below 40 per 1,000 live births this year. However, the state is still lagging behind the states offering advanced healthcare in the country.

CM launches agri credit portal SAFAL

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday launched a common credit portal SAFAL, a simplified application for agricultural loans, which he said, can revolutionise the credit provisions for farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.

He said the application is a one-stop solution for farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to avail formal sector credit from public and private-sector banks, , State Cooperative banks and small finance banks. Farmers and agri-entrepreneurs would have access to more than 300 term-loan products being offered by 40 plus partner banks.

Besides, he added, it has been integrated with Krushak Odisha as well as access to 70 plus model project reports. It would ease the loan application process benefiting both the farmers and banks significantly. The portal would also reduce information asymmetry by sending farmers real-time notifications at every stage of their loan application, he assured.

He hoped the SAFAL would be a facilitator of credit to spur the Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture and allied sectors and increase the economic prowess of farmers in the long run.

Government introduces six bills

The introduced six Bills, including one to amendTamil Nadu Business Facilitation Act, to enable new industrial units, including MSMEs to establish and operate based on self-certification without inspections and obtaining clearances under various state laws for the initial three years.

ABillwas introduced by finance ministerPalanivel Thiaga Rajanto amend Transparency in Tenders Act, to encourage and incentivise the participation of MSMEs owned by persons belonging to SC/STs in public procurement. The other Bills to amend the existing laws include, extension of the term of the special officer in respect of Kadambur Town panchayat in Tuticorin upto December, inclusion of finance secretary as member in the syndicate of ten Universities, to omit the clause of disqualification if a member of any of the authorities of the Universities becomes of deaf-mute or suffers from leprosy.

State must reassess governance system

Economist and former director ofCentre for Development Studies(CDS)Prof KP KannansaidKeralashould re-examine its Governance system and rise to the challenges posed by a Society with high . Kannan, an honorary fellow ofCDS, has just completed a working paper titled Kerala Model of Development Revisited, A Sixty-Year Assessment of Successes and Failures.

Kannan cited three examples to illustrate Keralas spectacular failure: a declining efficiency in revenue collection, persisting loss in public sector enterprises and waste of public Resources due to time and cost overruns in public investments (basic infra).

These are thwarting Keralas ability to enhance Capital Expenditure, tackle Unemployment. Detailed studies will be required to pinpoint the nexus between the political-bureaucratic class and the business-contractor class which is aggravating the lapses in revenue collection. Karnataka govts GramaOne programme sees one crore beneficiaries

The number of beneficiaries of GramaOne, theflagship programmeofKarnataka governmentthat delivers citizen Services at the doorsteps of villagers, has crossed the one-crore mark.

The milestone has been recorded within ten months of the launch of programme, which was intended to help rural residents in availing of multiple government services without having to travel long distances to visit the district headquarters, taluk office and hobli centres to get their official work done. Currently, about 800 services including G2C (government to citizens), B2C (business to citizens),Banking services, and RTI (Right To Information) queries are being delivered through the 7,112 GramaOne centres across the state.

Centre did not sanction single medical college in Telangana, says Health Minister T Harish Rao

Health Minister T Harish Rao alleged that while 157 medical colleges have been sanctioned in the country by the centre, not a single college has been sanctioned inTelangana.

While addressing the press conference at Hyderabad, he said, “In 70 years of united AP rule, three colleges were established but in seven years we got 17 colleges. We were able to get 12 new colleges in seven years. Eight medical colleges are being established in this academic year.”

Chief MinisterKCRsanctioned 510 crores for each medical college. A total of Rs 4,080 crore has been sanctioned so far,” he stated.

Andhra Pradesh: 809 new procedures to be brought under Arogyasri

The has added 809 more procedures toArogyasriprogramme. This will take the total number of procedures to 3,255 from the existing 2,436.
Chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday held a review meeting with officials of the Health department. During the meeting it was decided to increase the Arogyasri cover.

Earlier, the government provided Insurance cover for only 1,056 procedures. It was increased to 2,196 in May 2019. In January 2020, the number was again increased to 2,059. In November 2020, the total number of procedures were increased to 2,436 including 10 Covid-19 procedures.

Goa to host International innovation expo next month

Goa will host the International Innovation & Invention Expo (INEX) 2022 in November which aims to focus on start-ups, industrial technologies, technology transfer, and the promotion of local products in the global markets.

Maharashtra government to provide 75,000 jobs to youth in a year: Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis

Maharashtradeputy chief ministerDevendra Fadnavis the Shinde-led government will provide 75,000 government jobs to youth in the state in the next one year.

The prime minister had asked various government departments and ministries in June to recruit 10 lakh people on a “mission mode” in the next year and a half.

Of the 75,000 jobs, 18,000 vacancies will be in the Police department and an advertisement for the same will be published in the next five to seven days.
