TheWorld BankandAsian Investment Bankhave cleared $250 million as concessional funding for the second phase ofResilient Kerala Development Programme, which is part of theRebuild Kerala Initiative(RKI).

Programmes for improving the states capacity to withstand climatic changes, natural disasters and pandemics will be devised in the second phase. The World Bank cleared $250 million in 2019 for the first phase of the programme. The German Development Bank had cleared another 100 million euros for the programme too in the first phase.

Karnataka govt announces Rs 1,250 crore Covid-19 relief package

The Karnataka government on Wednesday announced a Rs 1,250 crore package to help economically weaker sections and farmers to tide over the financial crisis arising due to the second wave of Covid-19.

Chief minister BS Yediyurappa announced the package and said that steps are being taken to reach the assistance to beneficiaries at the earliest.

Under the package, the flower growers will get Rs 10,000 per hectare and fruits and vegetable growers will get a maximum assistance upto Rs 10,000 per hectare.

The announced free food grains for two months (May & June) for families which have applied for BPL cards but not yet received the cards.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) have granted the Telangana government conditional drone deployments for the delivery of experimental Covid-19 vaccines.

The permission was given to use drones within the visual line of sight (VLOS) range.

The validity period is one year or until further orders.

Earlier this month, the Indian Council of Medical Research (Icmr) also obtained a similar

permit to cooperate with IIT Kanpur to conduct a feasibility study of Covid-19 vaccine

delivery using drones.

Vizag to send medical oxygen to Maharashtra

The LMO would be transported by placing the tankers on flat wagons.

According to theRailwayofficials, a green corridor would be created for fast movement of oxygen express trains.Andhra Pradeshhas a medical oxygen production capacity of 200 metric tonnes a day. But distributors are currently placing indents for 60 to 70 metric tonnes. Andhra Pradesh has been supplying the medical oxygen to various other states, includingTelangana.

WHO warns Goa on use of Ivermectin

A day after Health ministerVishwajit Raneannounced that the state will give all those above 18 years of ageivermectintablets as a prophylactic treatment to combat the severity of Covid-19, theWorld Health Organisation(WHO) said that the medication can be prescribed only for clinical trials.

This treatment is much more effective in clearing the Covid virus and people have to take it for five days in a row, the health minister had said. The medication is harmless and even those with comorbid conditions can safely take it, he had said.

Rane said that they have received suggestions that even children above the age of 10 years can be given the preventive treatment.

Maharashtra govt likely to give special relief package to affected districts

The is likely to consider a specialcompensation packageunder the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for the districts affected byCyclone Tauktae.

Last year, in the wake of Cyclone Nisarga, the state government had hiked the per hectare compensation under NDRF for horticultural land to Rs 50,000 from Rs 25,000, for damaged houses to Rs 1.5 lakh from Rs 95,000, and for partially damaged houses to Rs 15,000 from Rs 6,000.
