Manipur CM leads first-ever tree plantation drive in reserve forest area

Chief ministerN Biren Singhon Monday led other dignitaries in the first-ever tree plantation programme in the state being taken up in a reserve forest area in Kangpoki district.
The mass plantation programme, organized byManipur forest and department, was taken up atMangjo village,Kangpokpi Reserve Forest, in connection with the 72nd Van Mahotsav 2021.

Forest minister Awangbow Newmai raised concern on the alarming rate of deforestation in the state.

Newmai informed that about 400 square kilometers of forest had been cleared every year, and with this rate, the state would lose almost all its forest cover in near future.
Biren appealed to the public to co-operate in the development policies and projects taken up by the government and refrain from thinking that their lands independently belong to them, said a statement issued by theCM’s office.

Assam: Expert calls ‘fall’ in fertility rate of Muslim women ‘doubtful’

An expert has questioned the findings of a National Family Health Survey (NFHS) which showed a fall in totalfertility rateofMuslim womeninAssam.

Speaking at a webinar organised by Janasankhya Samadhan FoundationUttar PurbaKhetra on “Population Explosion and Future of Assam” on the eve of World Population Day on Tuesday in association with University Students’ Union, professor Kalita said, “Census data and sample survey data vary. While census data is collected from survey of every household, sample survey data is based on located or identified samples. So the data reflected for various parameters with regard to Total Fertility Rate of Muslim Women shown National Family Health Survey (NFHS) as decreasing is doubtful.”

To substantiate, professor Kalita said if person has four wives, each giving birth to four to five children, are not taken into consideration during the sample survey. “Under the sample survey, only one or the last woman is considered,” he said.

He said teenage marriage amongst Muslims is 14.9, whereas, amongst Hindus, it is only 4.5 per cent. In Barpeta district, teenage marriage among Muslims is around 14 per cent, in Bongaigaon district it is 15 per cent while in Dhubri district it is 22 per cent, 16 per cent each in Darrang and Hojai districts, 23 per cent in South salmara district and 15 per cent in Nagaon district.

Chennai alone has recorded positive growth in warehousing leasing activity in India in FY 2021: Report

A report by a property consultant has revealed that Chennai was the only city among top eight real estate markets in the country to see a positive leasing activity during the financial year 2021.

Knight FrankIndias report titled India Warehousing Market Report 2021 says Chennai recorded a total of 3.5 million square feet of warehousing leasing activity in FY 2021. The city recorded a 4% Year-on-Year (YoY) Growth in warehouse space absorption despite the pandemic exigencies.

Pointing out that Chennai was the only city among the top eight markets to record positive YoY growth in FY 2021, the report says that the highest leasing activity was concentrated in the Sriperumbudur-Oragadam cluster.

Automobile, textile and manufacturing for heavy industries continued to be the driver industries for citys industrial and warehousing demand, he said adding that ecommerce and retail players were recent additions to this list.

Kerala government’s industrial water supply scheme hit as NHAI denies approval

The state governments flagship project that started in 2016 to provide water to industries atKanjikode Kinfra Parkis held up as theNational Highway Authority of India(NHAI) rejected sanctions to use its service road at Kanjikode to lay 1,600mpipelinein its final lap.

The project aimed at drawing 10MLD water fromMalampuzhareservoir and should have been commissioned in February this year.Kerala Water Authority(KWA) laid a 16km pipeline for the Rs 32-crore project till Kanjikode. But to reach the industrial park it has to pass through the service road of NH-544 from Kinar stop to Government High School Junction and towards Walayar. The difficult portion, the NHAI road, has been crossed at Kanjikode High School Junction through the trenchless method.

Land registration rates set to go up in Telangana from August 1

TheTelanganagovernment is all set to revise land rates for property registrations soon. The cabinet sub-committee on resource mobilisation headed by finance minister T Harish Rao said it would recommend to chief ministerK Chandrasekhar Raoto enhanceland registrationvalues. If everything goes as per the plan, the new values would come into effect from August 1.

Andhra Pradesh govt to spend Rs 4,373 crore to ensure water supply to Chittoor district

Swayampurna Goa to restart from July 1: CM Pramod Sawant

Chief ministerPramod Sawant said that the governments ambitious project Atmanirbhar Bharat -SwayampurnaGoa, aimed at making the state self-sufficient, would restart from July 1.

The project was suspended in May due to a sharp increase in Covid cases.

Sawant said that 191 swayampurna mitrs in village panchayats and 14 swayampurna mitrs in municipalities have started their work to make Goa swayampurna.

Sawant said that if the swayampurna mitr is active, they can do a lot of things for the people in their panchayat. He also said that grassroot-level politicians should keep politics aside and work for the people in their panchayats.

Under Swayampurna Goa, Panchayats And Municipalities were supposed to get funds under the15th Finance Commissionand under the funds allocated for the 60th celebration of Goas Liberation. The state, through the scheme, wanted to ensure 100% coverage of water and electricity connections to the people.

It also has the highest number of non-attainment cities in the country where Air Pollution levels are not meeting the set standards.

By joining the coalition, the state aims to implements dedicated climate action in line with the Paris Agreement and reducing the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters. Formed in 2015, the Under2 Coalition is a global community of nearly 230 governments, with its members representing over 1.3 billion people and 43% of the global economy. Apart from Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana and West Bengal are also a part of the coalition.

As per a study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), Maharashtra faces high climate risk with a seven-fold increase in the frequency of drought events and a six-fold increase in extreme floods in the last five decades.
