Now, Kerala govt to e-auction quarries

For the first time, the government quarries in the state will go for e-auctioning, that will not only ensure transparency but also fetch a handsome revenue for the government through auctions, in addition to the seigniorage fee and royalty on the mined products.

The individual district collectors have been locating the revenue poramboke land available in the particular district suitable for quarrying and will put them on the e-auction site, that will then be auctioned at a base price of Rs 10 lakh per hectare per annum, for a lease period of 12 years.

Till now, the quarries in the government land were given permits (those which are less than one hectare in area) and those which were leased out (more than one hectare) on a first-cum-first-serve basis. Also, the no-objection certificates (NOCs) being issued by the revenue department were then given without any cost. With the e-auctioning in place, the bidding can fetch any amount above Rs 10 lakh every year for a hectare, if the place is in high demand.

KPCL, 5 escoms owe Rs 1,600 crore to coal, renewable energy firms

Karnataka is on the brink of a power crisis with five electricity supply companies (escoms) and the Karnataka Power Corporation (KPCL) yet to pay dues of Rs 1,600 crore to coal supply and renewable energy companies.

The state has Rs1,000 crore pending bills with coal supply companies and Rs 600 crore with renewable energy supply companies.

With limited coal supply, companies like Singareni Collieries (SCCL) from Telangana have been seeking clearance of dues at the earliest. Sources said three thermal power stations in Karnataka — Ballari, Yermarus and Raichur — have stocks for just 2-3 days and there is a rush to secure more coal rakes. Last week, the state government paid SCCL Rs 350 crore so that its coal supply is not affected.

Renewable energy companies backlogs have also piled up in the state with Hubli and Gulbarga electricity supply companies having dues owing to a large capacity of solar energy plants being set up in the region.

CO2 emissions from paddy crop in Telangana 2.5L tonnes: PJTSAU

Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural Universitys (PJTSAU) recent study on dangerous emissions from paddy cultivation says that CO2 equivalent to paddy fields from Telangana is only 2.5 lakh tonnes but not in crore tonnes.

The university also said that rice cultivation has its own benefits like increasing the organic carbon in the soil.

Through photosynthesis, the rice plant also absorbs CO2 from the environment. The degradation of biomass adds organic carbon to the soil. Algal blooms in rice fields also collect a certain amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

The recent Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) also made these remarks, and unlike many advanced countries, India and especially Telangana are performing considerably better in this regard.

MahaRERA extension likely for 10 per cent of lapsed projects

Around 10% of the 3,371 projects termed expired by MahaRERA may get extension two weeks after the real estate regulatory authority issued orders for regulating the lapsed projects.

The developers have been told to submit necessary documents for seeking extension that will allow them to carry on with the projects.

This is a good sign because if MahaRERA had not flagged such projects as lapsed, the promoters would not have taken any initiatives to revive them.
