Northeast’s first tea museum to come up at Dibrugarh in 2023

The first tea museum in thenortheastregion will come up in the “Tea City of India“,Dibrugarh, and will be officially opened to public in early 2023, saidRituparna Baruah,Assamtourism development corporation limited (AITDC) chairman.

The proposal for constructing a tea museum in Dibrugarh was approved by the state tourism department in 2016 and work on the ambitious project began in early 2017. For the second phase of the project an amount of Rs 40 crore has been approved by the NEC on a priority basis, Baruah said.

In the second phase, an auditorium, model tea garden and tea factory will be constructed inside the museum complex, which is spread over 2.66 acres of land, Baruah said.

ADB loan to set up univ at Mangaldoi

The Asian (ADB) signed a loan agreement with Assam Skill development Mission for establishment of a university at Mangaldoi. The estimated cost of the project is US$140 million.

The State Government has allotted 250 bighas of land and the construction work is expected to commence by early next year. The project is likely to be completed by 2027.
The loan agreement was signed between ADB’s country director Takeo Konishi and Assam Skill Development Mission director Adil Khan. State Industry, commerce and skill development minister Chandra Mohan Patowary termed the event as a major achievement for creation of a pool of skilled manpower in Assam.

According to the detailed project report, nine schools have been proposed under the university that will cater to the needs of local entrepreneurs, startups, and Micro, Small and Medium enterprises for technology, skill and businesses.

Odisha: Buddhist sculptures, pillar unearthed from riverbed in Jajpur district

A three-feet tall stone sculpture of goddess Marichi, a broken Buddha idol, a stone pillar and other objects were unearthed from the riverbed of the Baitarani nearKunjabiharipur villageinJajpur districtduring sand mining.

Some workers found the objects while digging sand from the dry riverbed. “We found stonesculptures, broken stone idols, old bricks and other objects during sand mining in the river. After the objects were discovered, villagers stopped the mining work and helped remove the artefacts from the riverbed,” said Manomohan Das, a local resident.

The development, according to researchers, indicates that the village and its nearby areas were part of Buddhist sites. “The size of the stone sculpture of goddess Marichi, discovered here, is similar to the Marichi sculptures of Lalitgiri, Ratnagiri and Udayagiri. We believe all the objects are the remnants of a Buddha stupa of the eighth century. Since third century BC till the medieval period, flourished in Odisha. But it is difficult to ascertain exactly which period these artefacts belong to until archaeological department officials examine them,” said Nrusingh Sahoo, a noted researcher.

Getting to root of afforestation plan in Tamil Nadu

The Nadugovernment unveiled its most ambitious afforestation project a few days ago to plant 265 crore seedlings across the state over the next 10 years. Called Green Tamil Nadu Mission, the project aims to increase forest cover from 23% to 33% by 2030. This year 47 lakh seedlings are to be planted, for which Rs 21 crore has been allotted. Next year its going to be 130 seedlings.

Kochi: Canal rejuvenation project running behind schedule

The apathetic Attitude ofKochi Metro Rail Ltd(KMRL), the proponents of integrated urban rejuvenation and water transport system (IURWTS), is causing inordinate delay in implementing the Rs 1,528 crore project.

Even after two years of government entrusting KMRL with the responsibility of implementing the project, the Metro agency is yet to secure necessary clearances for the project.
In its meeting held in the second week of December 2021,Keralacoastal zone management authority (KCZMA) has asked KMRL to submit more documents for coastal zone regulation (CRZ) clearance.

Though KMRL has submitted the revised application for CRZ clearance and reviseddetailed project report(DPR) before KCZMA for its nod, other mandatory documents like environmental impact assessment (EIA) report, Disaster Management report, CRZ map indicating high tide line and low tide line in 1:4000 scale, hydraulic modelling and flood plain study report etc were not revised in tune with the revised DPR.

KCZMA has been seeking clarifications and changes in the reports, including the DPR, CRZ application and other documents, for the past several months.

Implement Official Languages Act, use Telugu in govt biz: PIL

A (PIL) petition has been filed before the High Court, challenging the inaction of the State Government in implementing theOfficial Languages Act, 1966 and subsequent GOs notifyingTeluguas the language to be used for all official correspondences within the state, including issuance ofgovernment orders(GO).

One Guntupalli Srinivas filed the petition arguing that only 13 per cent of the Population can understand the GOs issued in English, which is unfair, unjust and a violation of the basic postulates of Democracy.

Srinivas argued that transacting government business in English creates an uninformed or misinformed citizenry. He stated that of the 8.45 crore Telugu-speaking people only 1.1 crore can understand English. Eighty-seven per cent of the population cannot understand government orders in English.

Srinivas contended that the state government did not act on his various representations, requesting the constitution of aTelugu Language Development Authorityand appointing Official Language supervising officers as contemplated in various GOs issued. He pleaded the high court issue directions to the government to implement the Official Languages Act by introducing Telugu in all governmental business from the state secretariat to the village secretariat level.

Green Hydrogen Microgrid Projects In Andhra

Andhra Pradesh has been granted India’s first green hydrogen microgrid project by state-owned NTPC Ltd.

Highlights

The project was awarded at NTPC Ltd.’s Simhadri plant in Andhra Pradesh.

At NTPC Simhadri, NTPC will work on a project called “Standalone Fuel-cell based Microgrid with hydrogen production using electrolyzer.”

In addition, as part of its Energy Security strategy, India plans to invite bids for the construction of 4 gigawatts (GW) of electrolyzer capacity.

This project will serve as a testbed for large-scale hydrogen energy storage systems. Multiple microgrids will also be studied and deployed in numerous off-grid and key places in India.

Maharashtra govt to borrow Rs 3,948 crore for health infra

The state cabinet on Tuesday cleared a proposal to seek a loan of Rs 3,948crore from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), under theministry of housingand https://exam.pscnotes.com/urban-POVERTY“>Urban Poverty alleviation (MoHUPA), to boostHealthInfrastructure in the state.

Since thepublic health departmentgets a much lower budget vis–vis its demands, a loan had to be raised to complete pending projects and also to ensure uninterrupted health Services in the state. As per the proposal, a Rs 3,948-crore loan will be sought in the first phase which will have a moratorium of three years and will be paid back in 10 years at the interest rate of 6.95%.

The funds will be used for construction and expansion of sub divisional hospitals, completion of the 102 ongoing works which include maternity homes, health centres and purchase of medical equipment.
