Union minister of state for electronics & information technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, inaugurated three National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) centres of northeast states.

One of the NIELIT centres was inaugurated in Churachandpur district of Manipur, physically. While, two other centres were inaugurated in Kokrajhar and Tezpur districts of Assam.

On the occasion, two existing centres at Imphal & at Aizawl districts of Mizoram were upgraded.

Minister noted that, NIELIT centre in Churachandpur district, these NIELIT centres would be soon be acting as job creation centres with the collaboration of Centre and States.

These centres will not just be training centres but these are centres to skill the youth and get them into the runway of opportunity and jobs.

It is the second centre of NIELIT in Manipur. Its campus spreads over 4.13 acres of land provided by the . It comprises of eight laboratories and two class rooms. Its annual training capacities is of 600 students.

Centre helping Border States in fighting drug menace: Union minister

Union Minister for Social and Empowerment Virendra Kumar said the Centre has been extending all possible cooperation to border states in fighting the menace of drug trade and abuse. Setting up rehabilitation centres to help the drug users give up their addiction is a part of the fight against drugs in which his Ministry is directly involved, he said. Addressing a press conference here, Kumar said, “In border states like Rajasthan, Assam, Punjab and Sikkim, among others, the problem of drugs is a major issue. The government here (in Assam) is already fighting it and the Central government has been extending its full support.”

The minister said he visited the rehabilitation centre for addicts run by the Committee on Social Economic Health Development-ICRA at Khetri on the outskirts of the city earlier in the day and interacted with inmates there.

The Naveen Jindal-led Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), one of the largest steel producers in the country, has bagged the statesKasiairon ore and dolomite block in the ongoing auction process.

Seven top mining and Metal platers including the JSPL,Essel Mining, Tata, Rungta,MSPL, ArcelorMittal and Electrosteel were in the race for the iron Ore block. Sources said the JSPL won the block by committing to pay a premium of 118.1%, which means that it will have to shell out Rs 118 to the for the sale/transaction of every Rs 100 of iron ore from the block.

The reserve, spread over 194.19 hectares, was operated by Essel Mining ofAditya Birlagroup until March 2020. With the recent amendment in the mining auction rules, the successful bidder (JSPL in this case) may not have to seek fresh Environment clearance for the block. The iron ore block will cater to the raw material needs of the JSPLs 6MTPA steel plant in Angul.

The number of child rape victims inTamil Nadurose 28.8% to 2,227 in 2020 compared to 1,729 in 2019 , highest among major states and way above the national average of 7 %.

According toNCRB, TN recorded an increase in cases under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act in 2020 with 3,057 cases involving 3,103 victims. In 2019, there were 2358 cases involving 2,389 victims. Of the 3,057 cases in 2020, 2,205 were cases of child rape.

The data on child rape does not include male victims. The incidence of rape of adult Women in Nadu rose 7.7% in 2020, despite the national Average falling by 12.7% amid nationwide lockdowns that restricted movement for a significant period. Tamil Nadu ( 390 women raped in 2020 against 362 in 2019) was one of the six states that saw higher incidence of rape, registering the third largest rate of increase afterChhattisgarhandBihar.

Despite the queries raised by theministry of civil aviation(MoCA) on the proposedairportatSabarimala, the government is going to implement the project. Government started preparations for site survey anddrone surveyofCheruvally estatehas been earmarked for the project.

Quoting the observations of the director general of civil aviation (DGCA), the ministry of civil aviation had sought certain clarifications from the government while considering the application for project clearance. A decision was taken during the CMs review to furnish a reply in this regard. The clearance from the ministry of DEFENCE is expected soon asIndian Air Force(IAF) has conveyed that it has no objection in granting site clearance.

The observed site is challenging in terms of requirement of grading as there is a vast difference between maximum and minimum elevation. The central part of the project site is at higher elevation whilst the boundaries are at a lower elevation. :Andhra Universityis looking for ways to commercialise its 23 patented/patent-pending technologies, ranging from healthcare and marine engineering to digital technologies and ICT, to develop them into commercially relevant products and applications.According to the university officials, these technologies have been developed within the recent years by the university faculty and researchers, which could pave a way for industry linkages.

For example, one of the technologies is related to inhibition of cancer cell lines. Another technology employed waste eggshells for adsorption of phenol present in the waste water, and consequently biodegradation of adsorbed phenol was achieved by employing activated sludge.

The department for promotion of and internal trade of the union ministry of commerce and industry recently sanctioned an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Chair to Andhra University.

National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)s 2020 data has shown that the city has the highest rape rate inMaharashtra(6.5 per one lakh population), with Mumbai (3.8) and Pune (2.5) following it. Nagpur also has the highest overall rate of crimes against women (75.3) in the state, followed by Mumbai (53.8) and Pune (44.1).

In cases related to the protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) Act, 2015, Nagpur has the third-highest crime rate in the country (16.0) after Indore (17.8) and Lucknow (16.8).
While theNCRB data especially related to offences against Women created a ripple, revealing Nagpur’s alleged dubious distinction, activists feel the city may not be as safe as expected, but still better than places like Delhi, where atrocities against women are common.

City Police chief Amitesh Kumar said womens security and safety is on the topmost priority in his vision for the city. We are continuously trying to make the city safer for women through various proactive measures, like the Damini squads dedicated to them, he added.
Social activistNeelima Deshmukh, senior fellow at the Indian Council of Social Science and Research, said the city is not safe after late evening, like Mumbai. Police may be trying to make this place safer but citizens, especially the youngsters, should be disciplined and not transgress,” she said.
