Odisha Police, NLUO sign MoU

The Odisha Police on Friday signed an MoU with the National Law University, Odisha (NLUO) for a new professional relationship based on mutual cooperation and interest.

The purpose is to set up an institutional mechanism namely Police-Academia Interaction Forum (PAIF)’ for interaction of final year suitable students of NLUO with police officers on legal matters.

The MoU provides for mutual cooperation to help investigating officers to update their knowledge on legal sphere and latest referral judgements to have regular academic conferences, workshops, investigation process, monitoring of trial, coordination and functioning of district prosecution cell.

Tamil Nadu tourism comes first in number of festivals listed on Union ministry portal

Nadu tourismhas been ranked number one in terms of the number of events that were listed so far on the Union ministry of tourism’s website, Utsav – India a Land of Festivals.

The state listed 107 festivals or tourism events on the site followed by 88 by Gujarat and 37 by Karnataka. TN updated 14 live darshans so far.
The portal lists events and festivals of the country.

The tourism department had listed events ranging from the famous jallikattu inMaduraitoMamallapuramdance festival and several lesser known events and temple festivals.

Karnataka govt to up R&D spend by Rs 2,000 crore a year

WithKarnataka‘s tech ecosystem moving up the value chain, the plans to strengthen the state’s R&D capabilities by spending an additional Rs 2,000 crore annually on the segment. That’s part of the government’s new Research, Development and Innovation Policy announced at the 25th edition of theBengaluru Tech Summit(BTS) that began here on Wednesday. The objective of the spending is to ensure easy access to a skilled talent base, and support for university-based research and researching enterprises and grassroot innovators.

The government has mandated each department and ministry to earmark a budget for research-based activities.

The policy states that to get R&D to a national Average of 0.7% of GDP and 2-3% of state GDP in the next five years, “additional funding from state government agencies is proposed to go up by 0.1% of state GDP every year.” Given that the state GDP was Rs 20.5 lakh crore in 2021-22, 0.1% of that would be about Rs 2,000 crore.

Telangana: 1.5 lakh visually impaired voters to get Braille guides

In another step towards making the voting process easier for visually impaired electors, voters guides will be made available inBraillefor the next general . Officials said that nearly 1.5 lakh visually impaired voters InTelanganawill be benefited through the new initiative.

Currently, visually challenged voters have voter ID cards in Braille script and at the voting booth, they are also provided with ballot papers in Braille. With the new initiative coming into force, they can read the guidelines before going to the polling booth without depending on others.

TheElection Commission of Indiaasked the states to print the guides in regional languages. In Telangana, the commissioner and director, Welfare Of Disabled, has translated the guidelines from Hindi toTeluguand soon the same will also be printed in Braille script.

AP Aqua University finally gets on track after years of delay

TheAndhra Pradesh Aqua Universityis finally set to become a reality after years of delay in its establishment. Andhra Pradesh, which is the largest exporter of marine products, becomes the fifth state after Karnataka, Kerala, Nadu and West Bengal to have such an university while Maharashtra is Home to theCentral Institute of Fisheries Education.

The AP Aqua University will come up on a 40-acre site near Narasapuram in West Godavari district and will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 332 crore in the first phase.

In the second phase, a seafront campus and research centre will be established on a 350-acre site at Biyyaputippa village at a cost of Rs 222 crore, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.

West Godavari is the hub of aquaculture in the state with shrimp farms spread over thousands of hectares and presence of numerous processing units.

Goa proposes pack house at Mopa to export veggies

To support Goas agricultural sector, the department has approachedGMRGoa International Limited (GGIAL) to set up a packaging-cum-sorting facility for agricultural produce. The Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture department hopes to build an integrated pack house facility which can be used to export fresh fruits and vegetables by flight.

Agriculture ministerRavi Naiksaid the state is making efforts to strengthen the agriculture Logistics sector which can help reduce wastage and improve price discovery.

Alphonso and a team of officials from the department had a meeting with GGIAL officials to discuss the proposal. Lack of certified perishable pack houses and accredited testing labs in Goa hinder the export of vegetables and fruit not just from Goa but districts of neighbouring states as well.

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde to inaugurate Krishithon 2022

Chief ministerEknath Shindewill inaugurate the agricultural expo Krishiton 2022 in Nashik city.

The 15th edition of the five-day exhibition will be held at Thakkers Dome, nearABB Circlealong Trimbak Road, after a span of two years.

Sanjay Nayaharkar, organizer of the event, said the expo will focus on new farming technology being used across the world along with felicitation of young farmers and seminars on various issues.

This year, around 1.5 lakh people from across the country are expected to visit the expo.

Haryana wins natl award for agribusiness

He asserted that to strengthen the backward and forward linkages in clusters, Haryana has launched an ambitious scheme Crop Cluster Development Program), through Farmer Producer Organisations with a provision of Rs. 510.35 crore for setting up integrated packhouses.

Punjab to implement Anand Marriage Act, says CM Mann

Six years after it was notified, the Punjab Government will implement the Anand Marriage Act-2016 in letter and spirit for the Sikhs to register their marriages in the State. Announcing this, the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said that the Government will take steps to generate awareness about the Act.

Though the Act was notified in 2016, there is hardly any awareness about it in Punjab. Several other states have implemented this Act but we have lagged behind. Now, it will be implemented here as well, said Mann, accompanied by wife Dr Gurpreet Kaur, after paying obeisance at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, on the occasion of theparkash purbof founder Guru Nanak Dev.

Mann said that 22 states, including Haryana and Delhi, have implemented the Act but it has not been implemented in right earnest despite the notification issued six years ago. The Government will take steps to generate awareness about the Act, he added.

Shimla gets waste-to-energy plant

Shimla has joined the league of cities having a waste-to-energy plant.

In the pipeline for many years now, the plant located on the outskirts of the city has started generating power from the garbage.

The project coordinator said that the plant would start transmitting power to the nearby electricity grid.

He said that theres a power purchase agreement in place with the Electricity Department. The department will purchase power at over Rs 7 per unit.
