CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology picks 15 research fields for rare medicinal plants

The CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) has selected fifteen experimental research fields in northeast India for cultivation of rare and endangered species of medicinal Plants.

Of the total, five are in Assam, four in Arunachal Pradesh, and one each in Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya,Mizoram,Sikkimand Tripura.

This is a project to sustain the modern pharmaceutical industries and for sustenance of Indias strong traditional system of medicines.

Odisha CM announces special package for weavers

To help the weavers of the state whose business and income have been affected during Covid time, chief ministerNaveen Patnaik announced a special package for them.Handloom sectoris one of the EMPLOYMENT generators in rural areas after Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture.

The state has 31,342 loom pits for weaving purposes. Out of these, 15,071 loom pits have been concreted so far. Under this special package, 15,000 loom pits of the weavers will be converted into concrete in three years in a phased manner. The will spend Rs 7,000 for each loom pit.

Similarly, a total of 3000 weavers will get house-cum-work shed in the first phase under this package. So far 11,695 house-cum-work sheds have been provided by the state to the weaver families.

The government has decided to provide houses to eligible weaver families on a priority basis. Beneficiaries will be chosen according to the guidelines of thePanchayati Raj department.

Tamil Nadu to streamline forest treks, camps to boost eco-tourism

Theproductivity losses(CPL) calculated for the working population revealed a loss of Rs 141.95 crore and Rs 27.82 crore till June 10, 2021, for men and Women respectively. Also, people aged from 40 to 49 constitute about 58.98% (men) and 58.73% (women) of the total CPL values (for premature mortality) of men and women respectively.

The DALYs for men and women were 15,954.5 and 8,638.4 till November 15, 2020, and 83,853.0 and 56,628.3 till June 10, 2021. The corresponding YPPLL were 1,323.57 and 612.31 till November 15, 2020, and 6,993.04 and 3,811.57 till June 10, 2021.

A portal for self-help groups to sell their products

Aiming at empowering rural Women, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday launched www.goabazaar.org that would provide an online platform forself-help groups(SHGs) toselltheir homemade products. Sawant said that will provide land at public places to set up stalls to sellproductsmade by SHGs.

After launching the website, Sawant said with the website local products will get an international market, adding that the state government will hand over land at public places like bus stands to set up stalls.
