India-made satellite to launch on SpaceX Falcon 9 on June 13

Azista BST Aerospace (ABA), which aims to mass manufacture satellites in India for the global market, will launch its first satellite ABAFirst Runner (AFR) onboard a SpaceXFalcon9 rocket on Tuesday (June 13) at 2.49am as part of the Transporter 8 Mission.

ABA is a joint venture between Azista Industries and Berlin Space Technologies. The firm owns and operates a factory in Ahmedabad, India, for manufacturing small satellites.

The firm is already in the process of realising the next set of satellites to demonstrate its capabilities with versatile payloads with its modular satellite buses. Several of these satellites will be launched within the next 12-24 months to establish space heritage and solidify vertically integrated production capabilities from India.

Tiger conservation efforts bring carbon benefits worth Rs 769 crore

2015 A pilot study by the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal, & NationalTiger ConservationAuthority (NTCA) revealed the economic value of sixtiger reserves Co rbett, Kanha, Kaziranga, Periyar, Ranthambore, and Sundarbans ranged from Rs 8. 3-17. 6 billion annually.

2019 A similar study of 10 Anamalai, Bandipur, Dudhwa, Melghat, Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam, Pakke, Palamau, Panna, Similipal, and Valmiki revealed their economic value was between Rs 5,095 crore and Rs 16,202 crore. However, this is not the end. Effective tiger conservation in India can also help keep the planet cool.

Biodiversity conservatio n is increasingly being recognized as an important co-benefit in clmate change mitigation programmes that use nature-based Climate solutions. However, the climate co-benefits of Biodiversity conservation interventions, such as habitat protection and restoration, remain understudied.

IIT-incubated firm to launch 1st multi-sensor earth observation satellite

An IIT-Madras-incubated space-tech startup,GalaxEye, is building the world’s firstmulti-sensor earth observation satellitewith the help of a visiblespectrum cameraproviding synchronised imaging that can take multiple images at the same time. The startup is going to launch its first satellite, ‘Drishti Mission’ next year.

The data fusion technology developed in-house will bring unparalleled insights and data from space, enabling satellite constellations to perform all-weather imaging at all times without atmospheric interference typical of today’s single-sensor satellites. The technology will enable the production of images with extremely high resolution via a small satellite constellation that, once fully operational, will provide global coverage in under 12 hours.

Data tracking biases against Women has shown no progress over the past decade, with prejudices remaining “deeply embedded” in Society despite rights campaigns such asMeToo, a UN report said.

These prejudices “are widespread among men and women suggesting that these biases are deeply embedded and influences both men and women to similar degrees”, the report says.

The UN agency has updated its Gender Social Norms Index (GSNI) — which takes into account political, economic, Education and physical Integrity metrics — using data from theWorld Values Survey, an international project studying how values and beliefs are changing worldwide.

The index shows “no improvement in biases against women in a decade,” the UNDP said, “despite powerful global and local campaigns for women’s rights” such as MeToo.
