India-ADB deal to improve urban water supply infrastructure in Jharkhand

Government of India and Asian (ADB) signed a $112 million loan in order to develop water supply Infrastructure in the state of Jharkhand.

The loan will also strengthen capacities of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in order to improve service delivery in four towns of Jharkhand.

This project is in line with the priority of Jharkhand Government to improve urban Services in state.

It will ensure continuous, treated piped water supply in Ranchi and other three towns namely Jhumri Telaiya, Hussainabad, and Medininagar. These towns are located in economically and socially backward areas.

This project will be the first urban project of ADB in Jharkhand. It will help in establishing a model for continuous water supply in combination with policy reforms for sustainable operation.

Under the project, four water treatment Plants will be established in four towns with a combined capacity of 275 million liters per day.

These plants would provide Safe drinking water of national drinking water quality standards.

It will also establish 940 kilometres of water distribution Network in order provide continuous water supply across 115,000 households, including below POVERTY-line”>Poverty Line households, Scheduled Caste & scheduled tribe members and other vulnerable groups.

Bihar govt aims to vaccinate 1.25 crore people this month

After administering record 36.56 lakh vaccine doses againstCovid-19in a week, the state has set the target to vaccinate 1.25 crore eligible people by the end of this month.

The state is set to achieve the target of administering 6 crore doses to 6 crore people in six months by December-end. In the last two months, around 2.16 crore Population have been vaccinated and total 4.21 crore people in the state have received the jabs

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday said the possibilities of producing electricity from cow dung should be studied.

He said Chhattisgarh is the first state in the country to procure cow dung and convert it into a profit.

He was virtually addressing the event of online transfer of the against procurement of cow dung from cattle owners and farmers and its dividend to Women self-help groups and gauthan committees.

A total of Rs 5.33 crores was transferred on Wednesday. Since the launch of the scheme, Rs 100.82 crores have been paid to the beneficiaries, an official Communication said.The Chief Minister called for collectors to constantly review the need for maintenance, repair and construction works of Gauthans.He said apart from vermicompost, at a few centres gobar gas (bio-gas) is being produced and supplied to houses. Therefore, it will be a major achievement if studies show that power can be produced from cow dung.

Madhya Pradesh government resumes monthly pension for gas widows

The minister for gas relief and rehabilitation,Vishvas Sarang, gave away symbolic cheques to widowed Women in the 1984 Bhopal gas disaster at a simple function to mark the resumption of monthly pension of Rs1,000 to 4,558 gas widows.

The pension has been resumed from April 2021, and an amount of Rs5,000 for the last five months was transferred into their accounts.

Minister Sarang assured that the pension scheme that was started in April 2011, which has been discontinued twice, will not be discontinued anymore.

The scheme was first discontinued in April 2016, as the argued that it was only for five years in which theCentrewas sharing 75% of the financial burden and the state 25%.

The scheme was, however, resumed in January 2018, for two more years but in December 2019, the scheme was again discontinued by the then Kamal Nath-ledCongressgovernment.
On the gas disaster anniversary last year, chief ministerShivraj Singh Chouhanhad announced that the scheme would be resumed again and in July, an allocation of Rs5.40 crore was made through a cabinet decision to provide Rs1,000 to 4,500 gas widows from April 2021.

MSU placed among top 100 universities

MS Universitygot some breather this year as it featured among thetop 100 universitiesof the country in the list of National Institute of Ranking Framework (NIRF) declared by the union ministry of Education.

For the last two years,MSUfeatured in the university rank band of 101 to 150 and before that it was not even among the top 200. However, this year the university is ranked 90th with a score of 39.48. MSUs best ranking has been 76th position when the rankings were declared for the first time in 2016.

This year,Gujarat Universityhas been ranked best from the state at 43rd position and Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) at 73rd position. In the overall ranking this year, MSU and PDPU continues to be in the rank band of 101 to 150.

The NIRF rankings were released for a total of 10 categories overall, universities, engineering, management, pharmacy, college, medical, law, architecture, dental and research.

Like every year, MSUs pharmacy faculty has made it to top-50 securing 24th position. Last year, it was at 14th position. Faculty of Technology and Engineering has also featured at 117th position out of 1,147 institutes adjudged.

Rajasthan institutes fail to make a mark in national rankings

Rajasthanhas one of the highest numbers of government colleges and universities in the country, but none of them were able to get a place in top 100 of the NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) ranking, 2021 released by the Union ministry of Education.

Fresh investments made by the in opening 113 new colleges seem to have fallen flat as none of the existing state government institute made it to the top 100.

Among the top 100 institutes BITS-Pilani, Banasthali Vidyapith and MNIT Jaipur were ranked 29, 66 and 72, respectively. WhileBITS-Pilaniand Banasthali Vidyapith are private organisations, MNIT-Jaipur is a central government institution. Similarly,IIT-Jodhpur,National Law University-JodhpurandAIIMS-Jodhpur, which have bagged ranks in the top 100 in various categories, are all governed by the central government.

Only Mohan Lal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, which is run by the state government, managed to get a place in top 200 of NIRF in overall category and its pharmacy institute managed the 67th rank. The biggest institute of the state Rajasthan University failed to earn a rank this year.
