300 MW canal top and floating solar power projects to be set up in Punjab

To ramp up while utilizing natural sources optimally, Punjab Government has decided to install Solar Power Photovoltaic (PV) projects with a total capacity of 300 megawatt (MW) in the State, including 200 MW canal top solar PV power projects and 100 MW floating solar PV power project on the reservoirs and lakes.

The state New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora, taking the decision in a high-level meeting, said that the proposed 200 MW Canal Top Solar Project would be installed in a phased manner, under which 50 MW would be installed in the first phase, while projects of remaining capacity would be installed in subsequent phases.

These projects will be executed in Build, Operate and Own (BOO) mode by Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), he added.

Similarly, Floating Solar PV Projects are also a new emerging idea being implemented in the country for using the potential area on lakes and reservoirs, which will also lead to saving thousands acres of precious agricultural land. The cost of Floating Solar PV Projects would be around Rs 4.80 crore per MW after considering 20 per cent VGF.

Himachal Pradesh has highest urban female life expectancy at birth: Study

The hill state ofHimachal Pradeshhas the highest life expectancy at birth for females in urban areas a key indicator of the genders Health and social development while the entire region has fared better than the national Average in womens overall life expectancy.

The average life expectancy at birth for females at the all-India level was 71.4 years between 2016 and 2020, as observed by theSample Registration System(SRS) of the Office of Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India. This figure was 77.5 years in Himachal Pradesh, 74.5 years inPunjab, and 73 years inHaryana. The expected female life span in the states urban areas was 81 years against the national average of 71.9 years, 78.1 years in Punjab, and 75.1 years in Haryana.

Himachal had the hightest female life expectancy both at the age of 60 and in childhood. The overall life expectancy at birth in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal was higher in the urban areas. There was a difference of 2.8 years in female-male life expectancy at birth, at the national level, while the maximum difference of 7.2 years was in Himachal. For life expectancy at 70, this difference was about a year at the national level and 4.2 years in Himachal. The difference in urban-rural life expectancy at birth was 4.2 years at the national level and Punjab, 3.9 years in Himachal Pradesh, and 3.5 years in Haryana.

Rs 100 crore Badri cow project on anvil: Dhan Singh Rawat

The Cooperatives, Health and Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat has said that a project of Rs 100 crore would be launched to save and promote the Badri cows. He was speaking on the occasion of the launching of the website and MIS at headquarters of the State Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) here on Thursday. After the inauguration, the minister also had a review meeting with the officers of the department.

Speaking on the occasion,the minister said that the development department has been directed to focus on the Badri cow and prepare a proposal of a Rs 100 crore project for increasing its numbers. He said that demand for the Ghee of Badri cow is increasing in the metro cities. The minister also directed the officers to focus on goat farming and encourage farmers to extract milk from goats. He said that goat milk is being sold at Rs 600 per litre in the market.

Rawat further said that the ten progressive farmers each of apple, dairy, sheep and goat farming and fishery would be sent to Kashmir (apple) Himachal Pradesh (apple), Gujarat (dairy), Goa (fishery) Andhra Pradesh (fishery), Rajasthan (goat farming) and Leh in Ladakh (goat farming) for Learning the techniques employed by the farmers there in their respective fields. He said that the registrar of cooperatives has been directed for selection of the farmers. The cost of the study tour of farmers would be borne by the ICDP.

UP to host Khelo Indianational University games

Uttar Pradeshwill host theKhelo India National University Games2023-24. Additional chief secretary, sport, Navneet Sehgal on Wednesday gave a presentation before the representatives ofKhelo Indiain this connection. The ACS said thatNational University Gameswill be held in four districts of Uttar Pradesh Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Noida.

At least 20 Sports events including rowing, basketball, judo, kabaddi and wrestling will be organised and around 4,500 players from 150 universities will participate in the games, he said. Under-26 category players will take part in the National University Games and special focus will be on womens games. Best of the facilities will be provided to players.

Bihar govt plans to shift Patliputra University HQ to Bakhtiyarpur

State Education department secretary, Asangba Chuba Ao, in a recent letter to the Patna collector-cum-DM, has informed that the government has decided to allot 10 acre land of the Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture farm to the PPU for construction of its ‘permanent campus’. The education secretary further asked the Patna collector to take necessary action for allotment of the land to the PPU.

Ahead of theRabiseason, theChhattisgarhgovernment has given instructions to officials to keep a strict vigil on the distribution system of fertilizers and seeds and to ensure storage of seeds and fertilizers for rabi crops as per the demand in respective districts of the state.

During the meeting, it was informed that a target of sowing various crops in a 19.25 lakh hectare area has been kept for the current rabi season. Out of which 3.48 lakh hectare (18 per cent of the target) area has already been used for sowing various crops. Similarly, in Rabi year 2022-23, a target has been set to distribute 3,18,000 quintals of certified seeds, which contains 1,25,000 quintals of wheat, 96,900 quintals of a gram, 15,000 quintals of peas, 4450 quintals of mustard and 77,50 others seeds of crops.

In the third phase of the scheme, 1,726 urban street-vendors have been given interest-free loan of Rs 8.59 crore. Moreover, 2.26 lakh street-vendors have received cashback of Rs 3.15 crore by doing digital transactions.

The scheme is applicable for all such street-vendors who are vending in urban areas on and before March 24, 2020, and have certificate of vending/identity card issued by the .

PM Street Vendors Atma NirbharNidhi Yojana(PM SVAnidhi) was started from 2020 by the central government to provide WORKING CAPITAL loans of Rs 10,000, 20000 and 50,000 to street vendors, the most affected class in urban areas during the Covid-19 pandemic.

India wins Excellence in Leadership in Family Planning (EXCELL) Awards-2022 at International Conference on Family Planning

In a significant development and recognition to the countrys efforts in improving access to modern family planning methods, India is the only country to have received the Leadership in Family Planning (EXCELL) Awards-2022 in the ‘country category’ at the International Conference on Family Planning held in Pattaya city, Thailand.

India has made outstanding progress not only in improving access but also adoption of modern contraceptive methods enabling couples to make informed choices about family planning. These are reflected in the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 5 data. As per NFHS-5 data, overall Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) has increased substantially from 54 percent to 67 percent in the country, from NFHS-4. Similarly, unmet needs of family planning have witnessed a significant decline from 13 per cent to 9 per cent. The unmet need for spacing has also come down to less than 10 per cent.

The total ‘demand satisfied’ for family planning among currently married Women aged 15-49 in India increased from 66 percent in 2015-16 to 76 percent in 2019-21 which has already crossed the SDG target of 75 set globally for 2030. The governments focus on improving easy and affordable access to modern contraceptives are reflected in the fact that 68% modern method contraceptive users obtain their method from the public , as per NFHS-5 data. Mission Parivar Vikas, one of the governments flagship programmes, to reduce unmet needs in family planning, has also been a critical factor in the overall improvement.

Indias efforts in improving family planning demonstrate the progress the country is making towards achieving the SDG targets on women and maternal health.
