Pandemic effect: Government schools in Haryana see 25% rise in enrolments

Government schools in Haryana have seen a 25% increase in overall enrolment in the 2021-22 academic session, data sourced from the Education department shows.

This, officials said, was the highest enrolment in government schools in the past five years a reflection of the effect the pandemic and the lockdown had on the education system that forced many private schools to shut down and parents with lost livelihoods to pull out their children from institutions they could no longer afford.

While 20 lakh students had taken admissions in government schools in the last academic year, the number increased to 25 lakh this time. When enrolment had started in July this year, the education department boasted of over 2 lakh new admissions and projected that the number would increase over the next few months as admissions were still open.

Gurgaon was on the fifth spot in terms of overall enrolment. Admissions to government schools in the district rose from 1.2 lakh students in 2020 to around 1.5 lakh this time, an increase of 20%.

Govt procures 2.87 lakh tonnes paddy in first few days of operation; maximum from Punjab, Haryana

The government has procured 2.87 lakh tonnes of paddy so far in the first few days of the commencement of 2021-22 kharif Marketing season, with maximum quantity purchased from Punjab and Haryana, the Union Food Ministry said.

The ministry had to reschedule paddy procurement from October 3 in Punjab and Haryana due to farmers’ protest. Earlier, the procurement was postponed in these two agrarian states till October 11 in view of high moisture content in paddy crop because of unseasonal rains.

Paddy is procured at minimum support price (MSP) directly from farmers by centre’s nodal agency (Fci) along with state agencies in key growing states.

According to the ministry, paddy procurement for the 2020-21 marketing year has almost concluded and a total of 894.24 lakh tonnes of paddy has been from both kharif (summer) and rabi (winter) seasons, surpassing the previous purchase of 770.93 lakh tonnes in 2019-20 marketing year.

Himachal setting up Murrah buffalo breeding farm

The Himachal Pradesh government will be setting up a Central-funded Murrah buffalo farm with an outlay of Rs 506.45 lakh for the genetic upgrading and extension Services, state Animal Husbandry Minister Virender Kanwar said.

The breeding farm, which will produce the high-quality fertile and disease-free bovine stock, will be set up by the Himachal Pradesh Livestock and Poultry Development Board in Burnoh in Una district.

The Murrah buffalo is the most preferred choice of many dairy farmers.

The Minister said the aim of the farm is to produce high-yielding calves to enhance the overall milk production.

The native Murrah breed, nationally recognized as an indigenous by the National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources in Karnal, is of its distinct characteristics and constitutes 359,979 (55 per cent) of the total 646,565 buffalo Population in the state.

The state will set up three ultra-modern sheds at an initial cost of Rs 75 lakh to rear 50 high-genetic buffaloes, comprising 30 adult and 20 heifers.

The freshly calved high pedigreed 30 adult female buffaloes in first or second lactation and 20 disease-free heifers will be purchased from government farms.

The state will high grade semen to farmers and the surplus will be supplied to neighbouring states — Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh — to meet the growing demand, said Kanwar.

The Murrah buffalo farm will be equipped with scientific Waste Management and rainwater harvesting facilities and a fodder farm.

The fodder production will be undertaken with a cost of Rs 15 lakh to reduce the cost of rearing the animals so as to make the project economically viable and the dung is to be used as organic fertilizer manure for green fodder cultivation.

The State Government has now removed the condition for pilgrims to secure e-passes online in order to undertake the Char Dham Yatra. The pilgrims will have to register on the Dehradun smart city website and get tested for Covid-19 as earlier.

This decision comes a day after the Uttarakhand removed the limit on number of pilgrims allowed to undertake the Yatra, following which the State Government had issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the pilgrimage.

A total of 3,707 pilgrims visited the shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Till 4 PM, a total of 1,275 people had visited the Badrinath shrine. With pilgrimage activity picking up following the latest developments, both the pilgrims and locals involved in various activities connected to the pilgrimage were enthusiastic.

As Uttar Pradesh continues to intensify its vaccination drive with the aim of vaccinating its entire eligible population soon, the state has so far provided the protective shield to over 11,04,51,442 people.

The state took a giant leap in its vaccination drive by administering over one crore vaccine doses in less than 10 days.

TheIIIT-Bhagalpurwill prepare course materials in Hindi language for the engineering students from rural background with less exposure to English language. The step has been initiated following a survey of a section of students facing difficulties in technical institutions across the nation and subsequent recommendation by the Prime Ministers Office (PMO) and the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to introduce the course in Hindi language for at least one year in the higher educational institutions.

It may be mentioned here that the Delhi Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, in reference to Article 343 of the Constitution, had been advocating for introduction of study in Hindi language for at least one year in the higher educational institutions in the country and had petitioned to the PM in March 2021 in this regard.
