Punjab signs pact to launch use of emissions trading scheme

In a bid to address the problem of growing industrial Air Pollution, the Punjab government announced PARTNERSHIP with the Abdul Latif Jameel POVERTY Action Lab (J-PAL) South Asia and the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC India) to launch the use of an emissions trading scheme (ETS).

The state’s and Commerce and the Science, Technology and Environment Departments would work with them to design and establish pollution markets in Punjab.

The partnership includes providing technical assistance and capacity building to public officials to effectively use data and research evidence from established and functioning emissions trading market in Surat in Gujarat.

As a first step in this partnership, the State Government and the Punjab Pollution Control Board would also launch an ETS to regulate emissions from 200 dyeing industries in Ludhiana besides reducing particulate and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the state.

Notably, this initiative is part of an ongoing partnership between the state government and J-PAL South Asia, wherein since 2017 J-PAL South Asia has worked with state departments to facilitate rigorous, policy-relevant researchand the scale-up of successful programmes.

Himachal Pradesh govt to promote asafoetida cultivation in Chamba district

In a first, the farmers ofHimachal Pradeshs one of the two aspirational districts Chamba will cultivate asafoetida, commonly known as heeng, at higher reaches in Holi and Bharmaur regions of the district giving an alternate to farmers to diversify from the traditional crops and multiply their income.

The seedlings were prepared through either Tissue Culture or direct sowing of seeds and farmers were given a year-old Plants.
Chamba along with Sirmour have been tagged as aspirational districts by the central government.
The aspirational districts are considered backward on various parameters, including Education, Health, woman and child welfare and Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture.

Niti Aayogs SDG Index 2020-21: Uttarakhand best-ranked state in law and order situation

Uttarakhandsecured the top spot in terms of better law and order situation in the recently-released Goals (SDG) India Index 2020-21 by the NITI Aayog.

Uttarakhand was ranked an overall third along with Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Karnataka on the index for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) released by the NITI Aayog on Thursday. The states followed Kerala which retained the top spot and Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu which were jointly in the second position.

The Jharkhand Government approved a onetime settlement proposal for such rural consumers of electricity department who have not paid the Government against the electricity consumed by them.

The Cabinet paved the way for floating solar panels to tap alternative sources of energy. Floating solar panels are placed on water bodies and panels are connected to the supply grid. The Cabinet approved a proposal of the energy department to set up a 100 MW capacity floating solar plant in the Geltasud reservoir of Ranchi in the first phase under 2010.

CM reviewed two bills of universities

The CM reviewed two proposedBills, to be laid in the next session of the state assembly for setting up two new universities exclusively for engineering and medical science streams.
After enactment of the proposed Bills, all engineering colleges across the state would be governed by the proposed Bihar Engineering University, while all medical colleges of the state by the proposed Bihar University of Medical Sciences.

The state currently has 38 government-run engineering colleges while 17 engineering colleges in the private sector.

Besides these two new universities, the Nitish government has also planned to set up two more new universities one each exclusively for the Sports sector and another for art & culture.

The Agriculture and Bio-Technology Department in Chhattisgarh is motivating farmers to produce scented and fortified paddy for Kharif season 2021.

Agriculture-notes-for-state-psc-exams”>Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey said in a statement said that if the farmers start producing scented and fortified paddy, the government will provide them input subsidy of Rs 10,000 per acre,under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana.

Choubey said in the current Kharif season the department has proposed a target of 2.47 lakh hectares for this variety of paddy.

He said till date 69,203 farmers have been selected for growing this paddy.

Surat Metro rail project on track despite pandemic

While the pandemic held up many development projects in the city, one that didnt stop in its tracks was the Surat Metro that continued its journey despite adversities. Even as the city was battling the spread of the deadly contagion with Covid tests, a few engineering experts were conducting their own set of tests on the metro route.

The project, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2021, is being developed by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC).

Rajasthan: Now, society to run 35 newly opened govt colleges

The has found out a way to operate 35 newlyopened collegesin the state which were announced in the last budget session.

According to the recommendations made by the state finance department, these colleges will be run by a Society.

These colleges have been criticised for not getting any budget fornew recruitments. To get away with this, the finance department has decided to form a society that will be solely responsible in running these colleges, including conducting recruitments and managing the finances.

RAJ-MES is another society which is already functioning for eight medical colleges in the state.
