States 1st Integrated Resource Recovery Park coming up at Tholai near Jaipur

With electronic waste fast emerging as one of the biggest contributors topollution, the state forest and Environment department is all set to lay the foundation stone of Integrated Resource Recovery Park spread over 48 ha area in Tholai, Janwaramgarh.

This will be the first such park in the state and will encourage the setting up of waste processing units. Shikhar Agrawal, additional chief secretary, forest and environment, tweeted, It will have 100 plots ranging from 1,000 sq m to 10,000 sq m. These plots will be mainly

provided to set up units wanting to process various types of wastes like E-Waste, plastic waste, end of life vehicles and old-batteries, etc.

The state forest and environment department in the recent draft ofRajasthanElectronic Waste Disposal Policy 2022 had proposed to set up an integrated recycling park, which will be responsible for recycling, refurbishing and dismantling of electronic waste in the state.

Odishas 2023-24 budget to be 10 percent larger than last year

The started preparations for the 2023-24 budget with Finance minister Niranjan Pujari presiding over a consultation meeting. As the state economy is on a path of recovery after the Covid pandemic, the size of the budget is likely to be 10 per cent more than the previous year. The government had presented a budget of `2 lakh crore for 2022-23. The budget is likely to be the last before the 2024 Elections and a major portion of the funds will be allocated for a large number of welfare measures announced by the state government.

Official sources maintained with the state maintaining a robust Growth rate of over 6.5 per cent and tax collection remaining satisfactory, the size of the budget will be definitely more than the previous year. The state government has already started the official preparation of a budget and a decision will be taken in this regard.

As the state budget will be placed after the central budget, things will be much clear on it in the first week of February. The state government will no longer have to anticipate the size of the central share and other assistance, he said, adding it will be much easier to prepare the budget.

With no clear policy, Tamil Nadu universities unaware of key reforms

State universities in Nadu are left in a quandary with no clear policy regarding academic bank of credits (ABC) or the introduction of four-year degrees. They are caught unawares of the fundamental changes in higher Education that are likely to take effect in the next few years.

The UGC conducted a national level meeting on operationalisation of the ABC on December 29 and a majority of state universities did not take part in the deliberations. Professors said even if

the State Government is opposed to the ABC or other key initiatives of National Education Policy, the professors and academicians need to attend these meetings for better understanding and put forth the state government’s views.

University of Madras’ former vice-chancellor P Duraisamy said the state government may form an expert committee to study the advantages of the new initiatives such as the four-year degrees and ABC and can take a decision based on its recommendations.
