India: Launch of 27 Border Infrastructure Projects

IndianDefence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated 24 bridges and three roads, which have been constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

These bridges and roads have been constructed across four States and two Union Territories in India

On the occasion, DEFENCE Minister commended BRO for completing these projects, despite the challenges of high altitudes and sub-zero temperatures.

Minister also announced to set upof BRO Cafes at 75 places, under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsavcelebrations.

ICRAs forecast of Indian GDP Growth

Ratings agency ICRA revised its Indian GDP Growth estimate, recently.

According to ICRAs estimate, there was an upward growth of 7.9 % in the second quarter of financial year 2021-22.

An increase in government spending in September resulted to an upgrade of GDP growth estimate in the second quarter.

As per earlier estimate, growth for the July-September period was 7.7%.

GDP of India had surged by over 20% in the first quarter, because of a low base as the first wave of covid-19 pandemic raged.

PM lauds significant decline in Maternal Mortality Ratio

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has lauded the significant decline in the Maternal Mortality Ratio from 130 per lakh live births in 2014-16 to 97 per lakh live births in 2018-20. The Prime Minister emphasised that all aspects relating to Women‘s Empowerment remain very strong.

As per the statistics derived from Sample Registration System (SRS), the country has witnessed a progressive reduction in MMR from 130 in 2014-2016, 122 in 2015-17, 113

in 2016-18, 103 in 2017-19 and to 97 in 2018-20.

Upon achieving this, India has accomplished the National Health Policy (NHP) target for MMR of less than 100/lakh live births and is on the right track to achieve the SDG target of MMR less than 70/ lakh live births by 2030.

The outstanding progress made in terms of the number of states which have achieved Goal (SDG)

target, the number has now risen from six to eight leading with Kerala (19), followed by Maharashtra (33), then Telangana (43) and Andhra Pradesh (45), subsequently Tamil Nadu (54), Jharkhand (56), Gujarat (57) and lastly Karnataka (69).

History of Indian Science and Technology Project

The (ICHR) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the project titled HISTORY of Indian Science and Technology. Similar project will be launched by the ICHR to trace the economic history of India. The ICHR will also launch another project in collaboration

with the AYUSH Ministry to trace Indias contributions in the field of medicine.

The History of Indian Science and Technology project aims to trace the history of Indias contribution to the field of science and technology using evidence from ancient scriptures. Its goal is to establish India as a vishwa guru (global leader) in various scientific domains.

The project will enable historians to tap into the vast information provided by religious scriptures in India and understand their historic and scientific content.

States using only 65% Krishna basin

TheCentral Water Commission(Cwc) has found that only around 65 per cent of the total water available in the Krishna basin is utilized by different states. Absence of reservoirs and flash floods are resulting in loss of nearly 40% water flowing in the river.

Global Technology Summit 2022

Mauna Loa Volcano

The 99% Of POCSO Cases Are Scheduled For Trial In 2020 Says A Report

On November 25, 2021, the Praja Foundation released its findings on POSCO cases.

According to the report, despite a drop in crimes against children, 99 per cent of complaints under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offenses Act were still pending by December 2020. (POCSO)

In 2020, girls accounted for 94% of the total 1,197 cases. There were 721 rape cases and 376 sexual assault cases among these.

In 2020, 42% of all rape incidents were committed against minors under the age of 18, compared to 47% in 2018 and 45% in 2019.

The age group of 12 to 18 years had the highest number of rape victims (620 out of 721 in 2020). Offenders were known to be victims in 95 per cent of all rape instances.

According to the POCSO Act, 93% of the 67 instances against boys were unnatural offences. The low proportion of reported male cases compared to overall cases indicates the stigma associated with reporting sexual offences against men.

According to the data, just 28% of the IPC cases examined in 2020 had a charge sheet filed. It discovers that investigations were incomplete in 58% of cases of crime against Women and 56% of cases of crime against children.

India-Indonesia CORPAT Exercise In Indian Ocean

The 37th India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) will take place in the Indian Ocean region from November 23-24, 2021.

Highlights:

To guarantee safety and security, CORPAT is held twice a year. In 2002, it was held for the first occasion.

The CORPAT is being carried out by the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Khanjar and the Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft. The Indonesian Naval Ship KRI Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin (376) is taking part.
