Jaisalmer poised to become another cement hub in state

Large number of tourists flock to Jaisalmer for its rolling sand dunes. But now, the desert district has started attracting investors.

In fact, Jaisalmer is poised to become anothercementhub in the state, which is already the largest producer of the building material in the country.

What is driving the boom is the auction of limestone mines. Recently, the mines department auctioned four limestone blocks, fetching estimated royalty revenues of Rs 11,847 crore over 50 years. Four companies have signed MoUs with the to invest Rs 6,000 crore in setting up as many cement Plants.

After exploration of 337 sq km, the mines department has identified 32 limestone mines in Jaisalmer, of which 7 have been reserved for RSMML.
As per the government data, steel-grade (SMS) limestone, which is superior, accounts for 2,596 million tonne, while cement-grade stands at 11466 million tonne.

Rajasthan is already the leading producer of cement having 20% of the countrys production, followed by Madhya Pradesh (13%), Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh (12% each), Tamil Nadu and Karnataka (7% each), Gujarat (6%) and the remaining coming from other states.
The Growth of cement Industry in Jaisalmer will further bolster the Leadership position of the state in the country.
