In a first, anganwadi centres (AWC) have merged with government schools, paving the way for providing pre-school education to children in the 3-5 age group.

RajasthanState Council of Educational Research & Training, Udaipur, is working on the framework for an integrated approach to healthcare, Nutrition and Education. The AWCs role is to provide healthcare and nutrition to pregnant, lactating mothers and children up to 5 years.

Already 12,000 schools have been merged into government schools in the last two years. The remaining 19,000 will be merged in many phases with an aim to provide effective pre-school Learning. Kamlendra SinghRanawat, public relations officer atRSCERT, said they were working on a readiness package for AWC to smoothly integrate them into the school system.
