FICCI to support state in enhancing energy efficiency in Andhra Pradesh

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has appointed Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & (FICCI), an expert agency, for identifying the potential for energy Savings inAndhra Pradesh.

The agency will develop monitoring and support mechanisms for the perform, achieve and trade (PAT) scheme activities to meet energy saving targets of the state.

Andhra Pradesh has been given a target of 6.68 million tonnes of oil equivalent (mtoe) of energy savings by 2030. This is in line with the roadmap of the Union Government for reducing the total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes from now to 2030 and to achieve net zero emissions by 2070.

The FICCI shall support Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Conservation Mission in identifying potential designated consumers (energy intensive industries under PAT scheme) in existing sectors

as well as new sectors across the state. They shall compile the best practices and new technologies being followed by other states or nations to explore the possibility of replicating the same in AP industrial units.

BEE has been supporting Andhra Pradesh in implementation of programmes under the ambit of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. One such scheme, which proved to be a game changer in the Indian energy efficiency scenario, is PAT scheme. The scheme focuses primarily on enhancing the energy efficiency of large energy intensive sectors through accelerated adoption of efficient and low-carbon technologies without any financial burden on the state.

Andhra Pradesh has saved around 0.295 mtoe equivalent to 3,430 million units worth of around 2,356 crore in cycle-2 of the PAT Scheme. The state has achieved savings of around 0.20 mtoe equivalent to 2,386 million units of energy worth around 1,600 crore.
